Apple Customer has purchased Windows 7 ISO file for his iMac Computer.
But, the fact is that Apple only allows this on computers that support booting from an USB drive (aka they don't have optical drive). Â
Though, whether i can adopt an non-recommendation folk prescription, i.e.[URL] there any risk there ? Â

Recently got an imac, have text documents from old comp in 'microsoft works word processor' on 'read only' disc. Will downloading "word perfect viewer" enable the mac to read and file the disc ?

I just installed Lion 10.7.4 named my computer "fx6800". Then I joined my Windows 2003 Server domain with no problems. After that I could not log on to domain with one of my windows 7 machines because it had the same computer ID. Ok no problem I re joined the domain and re binded with the Win 7 machine and then un binded my Mac Lion machine then re-binded with a different computer ID. No problem both machines can log on to AD with separate computer accounts. Then I notice when I opened terminal it was showing the old computer ID. No problem I fixed it With sudo scutil --set HostName "new host name". Â
Then when I go to select file sharing in the description to the right under File Sharing On: it shows the path to tha machine is fx6800.domainname.local which is the original computer ID. Also when I select remote login and I believe it shows username@fx6800.domainname.local. I have searched for 2 days and have not come up with anything. I am sure if I reinstall everything it should fix it but I would like to save the time.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am playing around with HD video and have a very large Quicktime File (12.5GB) that froze my computer while rendering. I need to delete it. (CRASH: screen freezes and dark line slowly comes from top to bottom and once entire screen is slightly darker, a post in the middle pops up and tells me to turn off computer by holding power button).Â
After a lot of trial and error, it seems the problem is that the computer can't handle the massive deletion. Unlike a lot of other similar issues on this forum, this is a single file and not hundreds, so i can't delete portions at a time and be done with it. I have run through all my ideas and need help on how to delete this file from my computer and have come up with two possible ways:Â
1 - Split this video into smaller files. I dont know how to do this: I have SPLIT-CONCAT but that duplicates (then splits) and does not actually split the original. I tried "replacing" the video with the same-named smaller file and it crashed the computer.Â
2 - Change preferences on this computer somehow to allow this massive deletion. I tried a force empty through terminal and it did the same crash. I dont know if there is a preference (disk manager) or otherwise to get rid of this file. Â

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo my problem is i installed Parallel Desktop, installed windows 7, 64bit and after i installed Lineage 2 (a game that uses Direct3D) i get an error running the game, were it says i need to enable Direct3D in the DxDiag - but when i run the DxDiag it just tell me that info is not available, so there is nowere i can enable Direct3D :/ I have been googling the issue, but i havent been able to find a solution on how to use/enable Direct3D. However the graphic card i have in my MacBook pro is called Nvidia Geforce GT 330M and does support Direct3D so it must be something that happens because of the mac cross to windows 7 thingy. Also i have been trying to installe the latest drivers from Nvidias website, but i also get an error when i try to install them, saying it cant verufy my hardware - so it must be something about windows not beeing able to detect what kind of graphic card i use cause its on a mac system?? Another thing i notcied was in DxDiag i saw under memory, it only see 1 GB of memory and i have 4 GB available not that it changes anything

I have a new 3.4 GHz Thunderbolt iMac and can't get Thunderbolt Target Display Mode to work with my current-model 13" MacBook Air or the current model 15" MacBook Pro furnished to me by my employer. Cmd-F2 just creates a beeping sound. I tried three different Thunderbolt cables. (They are not Mini DisplayPort cables. I have one of those from a previous model of iMac and it both looks different from the Thunderbolt cables and System Information doesn't show any change when I try to patch the computers together using it.)
All machines are fully updated to MacOS X 10.7.4 with all firmware updates applied. System Information shows that all are equipped with Thunderbolt interfaces; the Console app shows the kernel message indicating when the Thunderbolt devices are plugged in and removed; all three machines work in Thunderbolt Target Disk mode in both directions with all three cables with both Thunderbolt interfaces on the iMac.

I have a Mac Air running Mavericks on a HFS partition and Windows 7 on a BOOTCAMP NTFS partition. I have some files that I want to read/write from/to both systems. Since OS X can't write NTFS and Windows can't write HFS either, and I don't want to use any 3rd-party tools/drivers, in OS X, I copy those files from NTFS to its HFS partition, make changes, then switch to Windows and sync them back to NTFS.Â
The problem is, after I copied a file from NTFS to HFS in OS X, it seemed ok. But when I switched to Windows, the very copied file in HFS partition had its size changed (bigger) although I didn't make any changes to it in OS X yet. This happens to almost every file I copied, text and binary. For those text files, I tried to open it with EditPlus in Windows and EditPlus reports the correct size on the status bar.Â

I've got to transfer 250GB ish of files from an OSX machine (HFS+) onto a Linux EXT3 machine and a Windows NTFS machine.
The problem is that I've got lots of odd named folders/files on the OSX machine that are not compatible on the linux/windows machines.
For example :
"OLDER THAN 12/08/09" becomes "ONM6U4~U"
How am I going to get these files over properly keeping the file/foldernames as intact as possible?
1 - I have an early 2008 iMac 24" and ordered Snow Leopard disc from Apple
2 - After installation of Win7 64 bit and problems with boot camp 3.1 drivers support then tells me my computer will not run windows 7 64 bit and sends me a list of non-compatibles. Sure enough mine is one.
3 - Several respondents help me and it appears that 64 bit will run but still trouble with keyboard/mouse.4 - uninstall 64 bit and install 32 bit and related boot camp drivers5 - numeric keypad on apple keyboard still does not work with office 20106 - just tried to update drivers for win 32 but it says more current ones are installed??? I guess that is from the attempt to install 3.1 for win 64 unsuccessfully?7 - Now support lists computers that will not run windows 7 and mine is not on that list.
right now i'd be a happy camper if someone could just tell me how to get the Apple keyboard that came with my iMac and the numeric keypad working when in Windows or Office.
