I love taking pictures, editing, and displaying. However, I would like to add monitors in other areas of the house in order to display pictures remotely and keep the source IMac in my home office.

Not long after startup, the display will darken on the left side and stay that way until reboot - still readable, but bothersome .

I'm using 2 IMac 27' and one is simply used as an external display. When I wake up the computer from sleep, it works on the main monitor, however the external display still has a black screen. I have to unplug the external monitor to get it to wake up. I tried unplugging thunderbolt and replugging it in which worked the first time, but same issue again not waking up.

With my 'old' Intel iMac using a Display Port adapter, my 24" LG Monitor would be detected correctly and worked first time. With my new 2011 iMac 27 using a genuine Apple mini DisplayPort adapter plugged into the Thunderbolt port, this same monitor now shows up as a generic VGA monitor and the range of resolutions is severely reduced - basically it looks terrible. I've tried disconnecting the cable, reconnecting, using the second Thunderbolt, changing resolutions, detecting displays, showing displays in the menu bar. All with no success.

My wife has an iMac (I don't know any other way to identify it e.g. model number), and she has this 3rd party calibration software that I'm trying to use. I am not used to a Mac, and I cannot find the display settings for the monitor. There are no buttons on the monitor, and when I go to preferences, I can only find the brightness control. I've googled this and cannot find a clear, simple answer. I have used every version of Windows (currently on 8.1 on my PC) and it's easy for me on that platform. I suppose it's just that I don't really know how to navigate Mac OS.

I have a fresh install of Windows XP, service pack 2 on a boot camp partition on my macbook (13" first gen aluminum case) and a Apple LED Cinema Display attached to the mini display port.
I can't seem to make the Cinema Display the primary display (the "Use this device as the primary monitor" checkbox is always greyed out in the Display Property Settings tab). I also can't shut the macbook lid and continue to use it closed (with kb, mouse and monitor attached) like I would when booting OSX.
Is there some other way to make the Cinema Display the primary monitor, so I can leave the macbook closed when booting into Windows?
My parents have trouble operating there new imac. I would like to be able to take over remotely from my imac. Can I do this? Is there a way?

As said, my current set up is an HDMI - DVI cable (HDMI to monitor and DVI to adapter) and my DVI - mini DisplayPort adapter, everything is connected fine but when I turn on the monitor, it says cable not found... and nothing is displayed on the screen but on the Macbook side of things, it sees the monitor is connected (I can extend the screen and leave the screen) but other than that, it appears I cannot get an image on the monitor, pressing every button on the monitor does not work either.
Any other information that may seem necessary, let me know. I tried clearing my PRAM and clearing the power and such but nothing seems to work.
I have a new iMac and I want to log into my pc at another location. I had a pc and they called it remote desktop or virtual desktop and I typed in my numerical address and the I was able to log into my pc hoe do I do that with my new iMac I cannot find it in help as I am not sure how to do it or what it is called.

I decided to open it up to take a look at the diagnostic LEDs to see if it might help me diagnose the problem (the most obvious failure is the logic board). I can't find the LEDs anywhere, where are they? Does my iMac even have diagnostic LEDs?Â
The other possibility is that I can't find the lights because they aren't lighting up. The fans, the hard drive and the CD drive all spin up fine so at least I know that there is some power running though it.

I hooked up my macbook pro to a mini display port to a dvi -> hdmi to my tv no problem. However, when I hooked up the mini display -> dell monitor, I get nothing. The screen is black. The weird thing is that my macbook pro recognizes that a second monitor is plugged in... it just won't display anything

My new Xserve started up and I was able to configure it remotely via Server Setup Utility then after I input all of the settings it hung on finishing the setup for about an hour. I then restarted the Server and now I cannot see it.

Is anyone else having this problem with the new iLife version as well? Can you test for me using a large photo album that this might be happening to other users too? View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to create a full screen slideshow of my pictures (from the finder). Coverflow won't do full screen, and Quick Look doesn't work well. If I go full screen I can't skip to the next picture. I can highlight multiple pictures then open Quick Look to be able to scroll to scroll through them, but it's long and tedious. Say I want to just make a slideshow from a folder of pictures without having to highlight everything and open Quick Look, is there a quick way to do this?
I thought of using Front Row (I had never tried it before), but it's telling me Pictures (0) when I have lots of folders and pictures in my home folder. Does Front Row only use pictures imported in iPhoto (which I don't use?) In Front Row, when I click on "Sources", it brings me to "Alex's MacBook" (the name of my computer) but I can't go anywhere from there or even change it, if I click it goes back to the menu.
I've created a slideshow in iphoto with about four mp3 songs from my itunes list playing in the background. The songs play find when I view the slideshow in iphoto. However, when I send the slideshow to idvd and burn the DVD the each song fades off to silence way too early! It's not an idvd issue, because when I preview the DVD before burning it, the audio does the same thing.
I've tried changing the mp3 to m4a, still same fade. I've also tried making them one track in Audacity, still same fade. I don't know what to do to fix it?
This is done with iphoto 09 with the latest update on a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.5.7.
There was an error during rendering/encoding of the menus/slideshows. The burning process has been canceled.
It offers no course of action so in Project Info I tried each quality, widescreen and standard, but each time I attempt to burn the dvd it will process the menus, render menu 1 of 1 and all 3 transitions and at the end of this segment I receive the same error message before it starts to process the slideshows of which there are three.
I think I need a server I'm looking for something that can run different monitors with a different slide show on each monitor.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I love the iPhoto "ken burns" slideshows, and I had created a cute one set to the "Linus and Lucy" theme song. However, when I exported it to a .mp4 and uploaded it to YouTube to share on my site, I got the "copyright" warning and the audio is disabled. So anyone know what the copyright limits are as far as slideshows are concerned? What's the point of allowing us to use it if we can't share it? I also noticed that the quality is degraded due to compression... would it be better just to make my own slideshow in iMovie and share that instead (quality-wise)? Or is there a better way to share the slideshow?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy dad has a new 27" Core i5 iMac. When he plays a very long slideshow, iPhoto consistently crashes around the 8-minute mark. Sometimes he gets an error message saying "iPhoto unexpectedly quit" and sometimes the slides just quit coming up, even though the music keeps playing.
It doesn't matter from which event the slides come, although it seems to happen on his pics only and not on the pre-installed pics from Apple.
One last data point, this never happens, even when viewing the same slideshow, on his 13" MacBook Pro, which he bought at the same time.
It seems to me like a memory leak, or, less likely, some kind of GPU overheating issue. He's tried rebuilding his photo library, which changed nothing.
MacPro 8 core Nvidia 8800, RAID card - arrived 2/25. Tried second monitor; monitor is blank (and turned on, and says "digital signal" when unplugging display connector from the machine, so it's recognizing the connection, monitor is fine on old G5). RMA'd for a new 8800, rec'd that on 2/28 - same result, so it's probably not the card. Tried 8800 card in different slots, so probably not a slot. Ram lights flash, HD spins, power light is on, so likely not power supply. Motherboard or RAM is only other thing I can think of, or maybe some kind of incompatibility with the 8800. Also, the fans on both 8800's run at what seems like full power when turning the machine on - is that typical for the 8800? Maybe that's a symptom of the problem; it's a lot louder than I would prefer.
