My iMac (intel core duo) after a hard drive replacement seems to be running the fans at a high rate of speed. Usually just a few minuets after startup. Before the upgrade they were almost silent and now they are very noticeable. I need to get taken care of or just a result of installing a larget hard drive?Â

I have a MacPro 2.66 quad-core intel. 4gb ram. I have a hard-drive from my old Powermac that i upgraded to 10.5.5 for this computer. Everytime I put my computer to sleep, and then wake it back up. The fans spin up to maximum speed and all the fans are running really loud and then after about a minute all spin to normal speed.
I don't have any other flaws except for this. Why could this be?
The other night, my MacBook Pro's fans started running at high speed when the computer was asleep. Loud enough to wake me up. And this just kept on going until I finally decided to turn the computer off. Is this normal? Is this anything to worry about?

I have SMCFanControl and iStat Pro and both of them said my MBP's temperature was around 55C though the fans were going between 4000 and 6000 RPM, I also checked the activity monitor for high CPU usage but nothing high there. I turned my MBP off for 5 minutes with a fan blowing on it just incase it was hot but when I turned it back on the fans immediately jumped back up to 6000 RPM. They're back to normal now but I assume it will happen again. Anyone know what's wrong?

So i tried the 2 ways of SMC restting procedure; both battery you can move and not, but nothings changed on the situation..
On the way for removable battery; nothing changed but on the way for umremovable battery way; keyboard backlight flashes and gone, but fans are at high speed not changed. So nothing changed.

Both of my fans are running at the max 6200 RPM and have been for well over an hour. My CPU is over 65% idle, and none of my processes are over 20%. My HD Temp is 38 degrees and my CPU temp is 72 degrees. I don't think my fans should be running this high considering the computer is doing so little work.

But after a while i recognized that the fans went on high rpms (around 6000) already at startup and did not lessen anymore. I do not have any high capacity processes running and the temperatures are not just not warm buth rather chilly, so no need for high fan speed. Now I want to solve this problem as well but seemingly nothing will work.

I only started noticing my fan running a bit on the fast side this evening after installing the new Safari 4.0.5 update. I looked at iStat Menus for temp and CPU. And I was seeing about 190 degrees F for CPU temp with lid closed running ext display. Also there was a constant usage of the cpu (about 30% User and 20% System). There's not one particular process I can see in Activity Monitor that acting out of the ordinary and using a lot of CPU. Just stuff like coreservicesd, WindowServer, launchd that are shuffling around and using about 1-4% of CPU.I ran repair disk permissions and verify disk. Verify Disk found errors and said I need to repair my Macintosh HD, which I have now done successfully.

So, I just noticed that when I have my MacBook Pro in High Performance mode it emits an high pitched noise when the fans are running around 6.2k RPM and the CPU and GPU is around 63c. The noise follows the speed of fans, and at idle the noise is gone.

I replaced my logic board and couldn't get my Macbook to start, but last night I replced the RAM with the original one that came with my Macbook and it started up, everything is working fine, but the Fans are running high I can hear it loud and the keyboard light are not working, but the keys works fine. I tried the reset options but nothing happens.

It's really hot nowadays and my MacBook runs at about 60 degrees Celsius idle. If I run a few CPU intensive apps, the temperature usually rises to 70-80 degrees. This is with the fan running at max speed. So what I want to ask is, will it be okay to keep the fans running at max speed at all times? I'm going to get a notebook cooler soon so that should help with lowering the temperatures a little lower.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got a little problem with my iMac 24" 2.8 GHz Nvidia Geforce 8800GS 500GB. When I start it up, the fans start blowing at full speed. I checked the apple support page for support and found my problem with all the symptoms being correct. The support said I had to reset the SMC by shutting down the iMac, then removing the power cord and all the other one's, wait 15 seconds and then put the power cord and the other one's in respectively. I did this almost 10 times, but my iMac still won't stop making those annoying noises. Maybe it has to do with the SMC fancontrol app my brother installed lately.

A wall of it had built up where the fans blow out)All is fine and dandy now except for one thing. Since I don't want to open my case up for the second time today (right fan wasn't plugged in all the way first time I started it up... oops x( ) I'm asking here since everything else seems to be fine.
What I did:
Opened everything up all the way down to the heatsink.Applied correct amount of Thermal paste.plugged everything back in (right fan wasn't perfect at first, but fixed and stupidly didn't double check everything else while I was in there)
And now both fans are running at 6k (full) constantly. I tried resetting PRAM and SMC with no luck. I'm about to grab my disk 1 and run the diagnosis to see if that turns up anything.Are there any plugs that I might have accidentally not plugged in all the way or at all that would cause this? Also any other suggestions if everything is plugged in correctly?

Also, I have iStat Menu. No apps using all my CPU (Mostly <10% usage right now) and temp is mostly <40c right now. All temps have a temperature so I'm assuming all heat sensors are fine.On a great note: My computer is so much cooler now! Even before this at 6k rpm I'd get down to MAYBE 45c if I was lucky.I also have Fan Control installed and it's not having any effect

I have a Blackbook, it's about 3 years old now and the fan speed has increased to a very high level. There aren't any programs running in the background, this just simply happens when I leave the computer on. I'm assuming it's because there is dust buildup on the internal parts, but it's odd that it progressed from being fine to the stat that it is in today in the matter of days. Is there a way to clean the inside? Apple technician to have a look at it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently picked up a 17" 2009 unibody MacBook Pro with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8ghz, 4gb RAM, SuperDrive and a Samsung 1TB hard drive. The system did not come with the original hard drive and I don't have any other hard drives to test and verify that the new larger hard drive is the cause. I have tried a clean install of Snow Leopard, Lion and even Mountain Lion but no matter what my fans always running at max speed (5k+ RPM). I have looked at iStat and the temps of any of the components in the machine never show more than 42*C so the fans should never be running at full blast. Oddly enough smcFanControl shows 0* temp but fan speds for both left and right are always 5.5k+ and very noisy. Using HDD Fan Control I am able to get at least the right fan to run at a controlable speed but its silence is drowned out by the left fan that still runs on full blast. I have already done multiple SMC resets and PRAM resets with no change in the condition. These noisey fans are driving me insane! I have run every available update as well. Is there a chance that the hard drive or something elses temp not being supported or detectable by OSX is causing the fans to default to the fail safe constant high speed?!

I just bought the macbook 13" (white casing) today and the first thing I noticed when I turned it on was the fan, it was extremely loud!! I let it run for awhile and it was still constantly loud. Then I tried rebooting twice and still the same problem. My room is only around mid 60F. Is there some function I'm supposed to turn off? Or did I get a lemon macbook?

Returned home this evening to hear my iMac fan making lots of noise, upon checking it was the HDD fan that was operating at 5500rpm. Both other fans were normal. Ambient temperature was 23c and HDD temp was 36c. Normally it's almost silent. It's a late 2009 21.5" base model that has never had an issue in the 23 months that I have owned it. Any idea what the problem is has it gone bad? I restarted but the problem remained I had to shut down and restart to get it back to normal. On another note how do you clean off the dark grey blotchy marks that have appeared at the top of the screen. They don't appear to be on the glass. They started in each corner now they span entire screen top.

At times my iMac (27" July 2011) starts making loud fan noise with mouse showing turning rainbow. The only way to stop is forced shutdown by pushing back button for a while. Yesterday I switched to widget screen and saw hard drive fan speed > 4000 rpm without CPU and temps by on the high side.

My late 2009 Imac (Intel) has the fan running on high almost all the time. I have done the hardware test, the fan temp checks etc, all are normal. It was suggested that I up the RAM from 8 to 16 (the limit) any ideas if this will do the trick? This computer runs excellent otherwise except for the highly annoying fan noise?

I checked system profiler but quite frankly wasn't sure of the designations.. does anyone have any experience with this camera, by the way? is USB 2.0 by definition "High Speed"?
