My old 24" iMac died and remotes aren't included with the new models. Now that Front Row is dead, can I use the old remote for anything other than launching iTunes?
I'm looking for a system that can track about 50 MBP's providing both remote wipe as part of an overall security protocol, and also remote screen/desktop for admin purposes. I looked at preyproject.com but it looks like they only do remote wiping/tracking. that I don't want something locked to a single user, it should be centrally managed.Â
I disabled the ability to control my iMac with the Apple Remote when I got my Mac Mini (they were in the same line of sight). Then I upgraded to OSX Lion on both when it was released and I cant find the option to enable the support of remote again!(I.e the option isn't available/visible in System Pref. -> Security -> General)Â I just moved my iMac into another room and I thought it would be a nice feature to use it as a "TV" sometimes..Â
I have an imac early 2009. I have recently updated various software from Apple. I have the engery prefrence at : 1hour Computer sleep and 15 mins Display sleep. I use Gotomypc to login to my home computer. Prior to the new updates i did not have an issue with with the computer not waking from sleep. But since the updates my display will not wake? They hardrive wake but the screen just does not. I do have a screen saver, however, this was not an issue prior to the new updates.
I work with a iMac (intel) at work and at home i have a Macbook pro.I now it is posible to remote the iMac from a external location (for example with the Macbook pro at home)Â I use this to machine for work.Â
I just downloaded Air Display to use my iPad as a 2nd monitor with my 21 inch iMac. I use Remote Desktop Connection to remote in to my work computer. I was hoping to be able to move my e-mail client to the iPad, and do most of my work on the iMac.
The remote A1156 which was working with my previous 24" iMac <2008 Mavericks>was working, but after getting a new iMac running Yosemite it does not work. I used it mainly for iTunes and adjusting the volume levels, which it did, but not anymore.
Info: iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), Other OS, OSX 10.10.1 Yosemite
We have iMacs and Macbook pros at work but we need to connect to them from home. I am not concerned with getting a VPN connection. That part is taken care of. Problem is I need a client such as a Windows Remote Desktop Connection. Where if I connect to the Mac from home it just allows me to use the session and not take up a lot of bandwidth for screen sharing. People in the office do not need to know what project i'm working on. Â
i have two iMacs, one 2009 and another 2014 and a network printer, these are in a home office and the iMacs connect individually to my by home hub. My network/usb printer is connected to one of the iMacs. whats the best way to setup a network to connect the two iMacs and allow AirPrint from iPhone/iPads without having to run a network cable to my home hub.Â
I've set up an old MacPro to be a media center for my AppleTV. I'd like to set up a VNC client to work with the box so my wife can get her monitor back from me (I'm using her second monitor). I poked around and found Chicken of the VNC and thought this would work.
I just want to log into that machine through my MacBook. I thought that I just had to plug in the IP of the box and I'd pretty much be off and running but that isn't working out. CotVNC keeps locking up every time I try what I think is right. Can someone give me a quick and dirty run-down of what I need to do in order to do what I want?
I'm about to drop $3000 on a Mac Pro, and it amazes me that the IR feature that is in their entry level Mac Mini and MacBooks is not in their top-of-the-line Workstations. Why has Apple not included an IR sensor for use with the Apple remote? Does Apple think that Pro uses won't want to use Front Row on their Pro machines? Besides, I can think of a ton of other uses for the remote other than just Front Row. And using the keyboard stinks. What are you guys doing? Has anyone come up with a solution? How can I use the Apple remote with a Mac Pro? Also, while we're at it, Apple killed the iSight camera a while ago. What are you to do if you have a Mac Pro with a Cinema Display?
I have got a Mac at home and I would like to remote access it from my Windows PC at the office. Is this possible? Remote access which means my PC screen would be exactly the same as my Mac at home.
I've been using Plex for a while now (try it out, best media center app in my opinion) and everything is great. I use it with my Apple Remote, but it's been missing for 3 days, and I don't want to spend the 20 bucks or so. Is there any, aaany way of using a remote other than apples (e.g. my TV or DVD remote) with Mac?
I just got a 27" iMac and love the remote app on my iPod touch but my girlfriend changes the songs constantly while I am on the computer and iTunes pops up every time she changes the song. Is there any way to change this so that iTunes doesn't pop up when she changes the song using her iPod or iPhone?
We are looking at putting a new Mac desktop in upstairs, a little way from our electric piano which is downstairs. Now presuming we've got a long enough cable, could we link the piano to the Mac then control the Mac through a remote desktop connection using a Windows XP/7 PC.
I use VNC around my house to access computers remotely. While I can access my Windows machine from my Mac, I am having trouble accessing my Mac from Windows in a reliable fashion.
I am now using VineServer on the Mac and TightVNC on the PC, but after a while it will become unresponsive, and require frequent re-connects and refreshes.
Apple's Screen Sharing is amazing running from Mac to Mac, but I don't have an extra Mac for downstairs at the moment.
Is there a way to access OSX's built in screen sharing from a PC? Or a better server for Mac or client for PC that will give better connectivity?
If I ssh from my Macbook Pro to my iMac, I can run the xclock command like this:Â
ssh -X imac /usr/X11/bin/xclock Â
Is it possible to do something similar with a .app application? If I ssh in and use the "open" command to open the calculator, it opens on the Mac, but I can't see it from my Macbook: open -a Calculator.app
i would like to be able to remotely access my macbook from anywhere across the internet. but i am looking for something more automatic, than the way i have set it up for my desktop using port forwarding, since i never know where the macbook will be and therefore a given network will already have its router configured and forwarded for my laptop.
i want to have access to file, isight, and screen sharing. i can only assume i need third party software but havent found any.
So two questions (I will try to write out as best as I can, hopefully it's understandable).
1: Is it possible that while I am on a business trip with my laptop that if I needed to access my network at work that I can remotely access it to view computers on the network with abilities to grab files from a computer, check things / alter things, and maintain. If so how?
2: If someone is on my network is it possible to see what traffic they are bringing in or out of my network without installing a file on their pc / mac to know the site they entered, file download, etc.
My wife loves her JBL iPod dock, but she's wondering if its possible to buy a remote control for it? There appears to be a remote sensor on the dock itself but obviously only the Radial model seems to have a remote in the box.

My cousin has an iBook g3 running Panther. She is having a little trouble using it and I am here to help her with it.
It would be so much easier to do things remotely with her.
My question is, can my PC (Windows XP Home) remotely connect to her laptop (10.3 Panther)?
If not possible at all, then that's ok. If it is not possible: my new MBA will be coming in the middle of December. When I receive it, then could I help her remotely?
I just had this question because I set up her network at home remotely (XP to XP)
