Intel Mac :: How To Control It With Apple Remote
May 23, 2012
I disabled the ability to control my iMac with the Apple Remote when I got my Mac Mini (they were in the same line of sight). Then I upgraded to OSX Lion on both when it was released and I cant find the option to enable the support of remote again!(I.e the option isn't available/visible in System Pref. -> Security -> General) I just moved my iMac into another room and I thought it would be a nice feature to use it as a "TV" sometimes..

I'm taking a computer class in high school. The teacher's computer has Apple Remote Desktop to control any computer when necessary.
The problem is, the class helper has access to this computer and usually takes control of my computer and mess up with my computer project "as a joke". My only workaround to pull the Ethernet cord from my eMac before he does so; if you do it after, the computer stops responding until after a while when the cord is back in. This is usually when the helper leaves the computer; I assume he has to give me back control of my computer before I can use it.

I've been thinking of using an iMac as a video player in my workout room. I'd like it to be able to grab videos (tv shows) from my main iMac. I'd also use it to play dvd's.
I was thinking of buying a used G4 iMac to do this, but would like to be able to use a remote control to use Front Row.
First, can I use Front Row on iMac #2 to get videos from iMac #1?
Secondly, does the Apple Remote Controller work with a ppc G4 iMac?

A number of times now my Apple brand Wired Keyboard has droped out of control. The letter keys work fine, but things like enter, return, the volume keys and more everything in that line will not operate. OF course, then waking it up from sleep becomes a problem and to get that back or any of the usual control I need to restart.

I am looking for a remote control, mostly to control itunes running on my mba from anywhere in the room. I saw that apple had a remote, but is IR based, and Belkin offered on in the Apple store, but it uses up the one free USB port (not ideal).

I have plugged a Windows XP notebook into my home stereo, installed iTunes on it and have it streaming music from my other Windows XP box upstairs. Everything works perfectly. What I'd like is a suggestion on a make/model remote control (you know, like the tv remote you use every day) that will allow me to do simple operations in iTunes like Next Song, Back, etc.
I have the Apple Mac Mini remote control but it, by default, will not talk to my Windows hardware because there is no Infrared Port (as far as I know). It's not the easiest thing to google. I would assume I could find a Remote Control package that includes the Remote, an Infrared Receiver (that plugs in via USB), and some baseline software for under $30 somewhere.
It needs to be a USB port because I do not have an RS232 jack on my laptop (Dell Mini9). On a side note, I have to say, this setup I created is THE BEST way to stream iTunes music down to my stereo. I have tried numerous products for the past 10 years ranging from Tivo to Logitech's Squeezebox2 and nothing compares to simply 2 computers sharing iTunes. I got the Dell Mini9 for $302 to my door!

Does anyone know of a way to remote control a mac from a web page (with a Java applet or something) that is actually on your computer. I know LogMeIn can be used, but then all of the data goes through the LogMeIn server, and I would like a server that I can run on my mac, independently from any other server.

I have an 'old' G4 Imac (usb 2.0) with a pretty sweet audio setup that I can hear throughout my house. I just ordered and old school clamshell ibook (se) mostly for writing papers on the go. but I was wondering if any one knows how I can use it as a remote control (over airport) to skip songs on my IMac. This must be possible somehow. I cant afford an airport express right now.

Does anyone know if it's possible, and if so how, to stop my iMac from registering when I use my little white Apple remote (the one that comes with iMac, AppleTV etc)? Reason being when I go to run through my AppleTV menu my iMac registers each press as well.
I have the Remote app for my iPhone and iPad but I'd rather be able to use the Apple remote aswell for quick pauses etc., so as to not have to load the app just to pause, skip etc., if I'm using my iPhone/iPad for something else at the time.

I switched from a pc to a mac recently. I had Remotely Anywhere on my PC, but I can't find a mac alternative. I already looked into alternative like logmein, but these web site are censored in my company. I need a software exactly like Remotely Anywhere. Software is installed on the PC/Mac, just need to install ActiveX in the browser, and you get to remote control your PC/Mac directly from the browser and in SSL encrypted.
I also looked into Apple Remote Desktop, but this won't work, because the port that will try to use (for instance, 5900) will be blocked by firewall company. I need a full HTTP(S) compliant software. If any of you ever uses Remotely Anywhere, you should get the picture.

Setting up a Macbook air for one of the kids, ready for Santa to deliver.
Everything seems fine (new Apple ID's , creation of a happy family in the cloud etc) ...until I wanted to set up the Parental Controls.
I have added myself as administrator and reduced his account to standard as with the instructions I have seen elsewhere. I can set the constraints no problem on his computer.
However, even though I checked the "manage control from another computer" box on the MBA, the "master "iMac where I want to do the control will not let me.
I go into the iMac to do the Parental control, I see the MBA in question. I select, and when it prompts me to enter the administrator details; but it will not recognise me. This is the administrator id I created on the Macbook air.
I have tried several times, and after it fails, it seems to freeze the Parental Control Preference view , and won't allow me to select that machine again. I have to go out of preferences and return, unlock and try again - each time it fails.
Of course I can wrench the Macbook from his grubby hands each time I want to change the constraints; but being able to remotely do it from my evil genius' lair was what I wanted to do.
All machines mentioned have been Yosemite'd, and are all latest versions.

One day ago I allowed remote access control to my Mac Book Pro OS10.9.4 to a company pretending to be Apple Authorized Online Services. After discovering this was a scam I need to be sure that they didn't leave or installed any app (hidden or not) and if so, how to delete it to prevent them to access my Mac again.
It would also be useful if there is a way to find out which information they may have accessed during the mentioned "session".

I know this is kind of off topic and the logo does not make the product any different but I found it a little odd that Apple decided to not to put their logo on the remote. It's made out of aluminum and has enough space on the back for a logo to be present. Apple put's their logo on everything that has enough space for one. The old remote had it, mouse, keyboard, MacBook/MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Pro, iPod's, iPhone, docks, and gift cards all have it. Their earphones don't have it because they are to small to put a logo without making them look stupid. I wonder what Jonathan Ive and Jobs were thinking when they decided to not put the logo. The back of the remote almost seems bare without it.
