OS X :: Making Remote Assistance Between A Mac And Pc?

Nov 28, 2008

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2 like Mac OS X; en-us)

ppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5G77 Safari/525.20)

My cousin has an iBook g3 running Panther. She is having a little trouble using it and I am here to help her with it.

It would be so much easier to do things remotely with her.

My question is, can my PC (Windows XP Home) remotely connect to her laptop (10.3 Panther)?

If not possible at all, then that's ok. If it is not possible: my new MBA will be coming in the middle of December. When I receive it, then could I help her remotely?

I just had this question because I set up her network at home remotely (XP to XP)

OS X :: Assistance Setting Up Mail.app For AT&T Yahoo

it appears that my AT&T Yahoo! mail account uses IMAP to push mail messages to my iPhone. However, every time I try and set up the AT&T Yahoo! mail account in the OS X Mail.app program, it sets it up as a POP account. Can I not have that set up as an IMAP account in Mail.app too!? If not, why?

Intel Mac :: After Migration Assistance / Account Failed Because An Error Occurred

May 7, 2012

Got my new IMAC and set up the Migration Assistance from my Old Macbook to the IMAC...  it finished migrating sometime in the middle of the night and the IMAC automatically shut itself off..

I try to log into my IMAC now and get the error You are unable to log into Account (xxxxxxx) at this time / account failed because an error occurred.

I don't run a Server configuration... and all the help in the community I can find is based on Client/Server

The MacBook is OS X (10.5.2) Leopard

The IMAC is OS X (10.7. ??)  Lion

This was out of the box migration, so have never had the IMAC up and running prior to this migration.

How do I get into my IMAC?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Application For Administrators That Can Provide Both Remote Wipe And Remote Desktop?

Apr 9, 2012

I'm looking for a system that can track about 50 MBP's providing both remote wipe as part of an overall security protocol, and also remote screen/desktop for admin purposes. I looked at preyproject.com but it looks like they only do remote wiping/tracking. that I don't want something locked to a single user, it should be centrally managed.

MacBook Pro :: Making Making Cracking Sounds While Opening

Sep 27, 2009

Since about the 3rd day after I got my macbook pro the computer has been making cracking sounds when I open it. When it first started it just simply made one clicking sound when the hinge is halfway open. Now however, When it is open it makes cracking sounds that don't stop ( open 15 cracking sounds per open). Is this a serious issue that I need to address with my local (and very mean) genius or is this issue not going to continue to get progressively worse. If this does continue to get worse will the hinge crack open? what is this worst that could happen?

OS X :: Making Changes To Desktop

Jul 26, 2010

I am a fairly recent Macbook Pro owner and I have recently had problems making changes to my desktop. I cannot drag and drop photos anymore, save files to the desktop or move files to the trash. When I try to move files from the desktop to the trashcan a popup comes up that says "Type your password to allow Finder to make changes." when I put my password in nothing happens. I know I must have changed something in my settings but I cannot figure it out.

OS X :: Remote Access To Another Mac?

Dec 8, 2010

I've set up an old MacPro to be a media center for my AppleTV. I'd like to set up a VNC client to work with the box so my wife can get her monitor back from me (I'm using her second monitor). I poked around and found Chicken of the VNC and thought this would work.

I just want to log into that machine through my MacBook. I thought that I just had to plug in the IP of the box and I'd pretty much be off and running but that isn't working out. CotVNC keeps locking up every time I try what I think is right. Can someone give me a quick and dirty run-down of what I need to do in order to do what I want?

Mac Pro :: Front Row / IR Remote

Feb 14, 2008

I'm about to drop $3000 on a Mac Pro, and it amazes me that the IR feature that is in their entry level Mac Mini and MacBooks is not in their top-of-the-line Workstations. Why has Apple not included an IR sensor for use with the Apple remote? Does Apple think that Pro uses won't want to use Front Row on their Pro machines? Besides, I can think of a ton of other uses for the remote other than just Front Row. And using the keyboard stinks. What are you guys doing? Has anyone come up with a solution? How can I use the Apple remote with a Mac Pro? Also, while we're at it, Apple killed the iSight camera a while ago. What are you to do if you have a Mac Pro with a Cinema Display?

OS X :: How To Know About Mac Remote Desktop

Aug 14, 2010

I use VNC around my house to access computers remotely. While I can access my Windows machine from my Mac, I am having trouble accessing my Mac from Windows in a reliable fashion.

I am now using VineServer on the Mac and TightVNC on the PC, but after a while it will become unresponsive, and require frequent re-connects and refreshes.

Apple's Screen Sharing is amazing running from Mac to Mac, but I don't have an extra Mac for downstairs at the moment.

Is there a way to access OSX's built in screen sharing from a PC? Or a better server for Mac or client for PC that will give better connectivity?

MacBook Air :: Making The Switch, But To The Mba Or Mbp?

Jun 14, 2008

i know you've already tackled this a thousand times, but, having read those thousand threads, i'm still not sure which of these i should go for. you all seem generous with your opinions, so i'll ask again.i need to replace my 4 year old dell 700m (12.1", 1.6ghz, 512mb ram, tiny 24gb HD) as it has become painfully slow and things are beginning to stop working. i've very much enjoyed its portability (it's small and weighs just over 4 pounds) which is why the MBA has caught my eye. my concern, is that i've heard all these things about it being underpowered - but underpowered for what? the lure of the MBP, of course, is that it's a lot more power for its moderate increase in bulk and weight.

I'm looking for an app that will let me design covers for DVD cases. Nothing super fancy, but one that will generate high-dpi results and let me create reusable templates. Most importantly, something that won't lock me into a "Wizard" mode. I've tried a few of these programs on the Windows side, and find that they're usually so constricting that your covers look generic, or they require you to be an Adobe Illustrator expert just to get anything done. I'd love to find something in between, and made for Mac.

OS X :: Making Disc Image To Use On Another Mac?

In theory, can I create a disc image w/ the disc utility program, copy that file onto an external hard drive, and then put it on the other computer that way and have the program as workable "disc" (but it will really just be the image of the disc). On a side note, if I got a new disc drive on that computer, would I still be able to burn that file to a DVD disc in the future to create an exact replica?
