I have a 2009 iMac with original keyboard, when I press the volume keys to change the sound while watching a video presentation the key clicks are very loud. I went to systems preference to the keyboard and sound icons and could not find a method of lowering the volume..

Are others experiencing this? I'm having issue getting a good solid answer after googling for quite a while. Some of the threads I have read also lead to no end result.
When I watch any videos, no matter what it is, after about 2 minutes my black macbook heats up and then run at fan speeds of 3600-4800rpm and it's super annoying and hot. As soon as I turn off the video, it cools down back to 1800 RPM and runs at 62 degrees. Sooooo odd.
I went to the genius bar and the guy there said that it is probably due to the fact that Snow Leopard takes advantage of the dual-core processor. I don't understand why it needs to utilize this processor where as it never had an issue on leopard before I upgraded.
I've also read that reloading the OS doesn't seem to help. Is this a common issue? Should I go back to Leopard?
I've only noticed that expose` is a little bit fancier on SL but other than that, I do not notice much of anything that is different.
I would like, if possible, to show a slide presentation from iPhoto to the AppleTV. Is that possible? If so, how?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI notice that while streaming a movie, watching a dvd or playing a game my hard drive fan is so loud, its annoying. I have a 2008 White Macbook and i replaced the stock hard drive with a western digital 5400rpm 320gb and I only have 1gig of ram. I have no problem replacing the hard drive for a 7200 but i just need to know if its worth it. If i were to upgrade the ram to 2gigs would that solve the problem? Is it possible to install a 500gig drive into the white macbooks?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just received my refurb 2.8Ghz 24" iMac today. I have been setting it up and transferring files to it for the last few hours. I just installed 4GB of RAM from Crucial to upgrade from my 2GB that came preinstalled. I opened Hulu and started watching a video full screen while I was working on something in the same room. All of a sudden the playing video froze and there was a loud high pitched squeal coming from the speakers and some crackling, followed by another high pitched squeal from the speakers and then the computer froze.
I know it wasn't a fan noise or a hard drive noise, it was definitely a high pitched audio tone and crackling from the speakers when it hung up. The only way I could make it stop is to hold down the power button and turn it the iMac off. I wonder if it could have been my photo collage screensaver kicking in while the hulu video was playing fullscreen that caused something to lock up? It seems like it was in the timeframe from when I walked away from the computer to the time it crashed.
I looked through some of the threads that reported problems with the new iMacs, and they seem to go back to about mid-October/late-October, and here it is, the third week in December, and there isn't an "official" peep from Apple about any of them?My I7 iMac is supposed to ship on 24 December, which will make it what, a Week 51 unit? I'm expecting the entire catastrophe...cracked glass, flickering, yellow fever, and a loud hard drive.

But I do have one question that is probably very simple. Previously with Windows I was able to play a series of TV shows in a row continously by selecting the files from the hard drive and selecting play in windows player - this way I could watch from my bed without having to get up at the end of every show to select the next
With Mac is there a way I can do this? As I have tried initially but it just opens all the files in different windows, rather than playing them in the order.

Well I got rid of the quicksilvers since they died. Power supplys gave out and took the motherboards, So I sold what was left on EBAY.

I just bought a new 2012 aluminum Wireless keyboard and the function keys do not work properly. I am currently running OS 1.5.8. I would expect most keys to match the icons on the keyboard. I do not want to upgrade to Snow Leopard or Lion. I have installed an aluminum keyboard upgrade 2.0 and this did not help. I just want the the keyboard functions to match the icons on the keyboard.. Volume up...volume down...

I am not to Hot on this stuff so I will try and expalin as best as possible. I have found a streaming video which I want to download or copy/rip which ever is the best. When I right click the video it comes up with a Flash or Micromedia properties & I dont think it was made for people to download. I am assuming its a Windows based program behind it of some sort. What my aim is, is to be able to rip it & download it onto my Mac then have it on my Itouch. I dont mind paying for a decent program as there are quiet a few I would,nt mind doing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've created a movie in iMovie HD (v5 I believe) which I want to insert into a PowerPoint presentation created in PowerPoint 2004. I'm using OSX 10.4.11 and have QuickTime 7.5.5 installed on my G4 PowerBook. I've exported the movie from iMovie as QuickTime --> Expert -->Movie to QuickTime Movie --> MPEG-4 Video Compression. The converted movie plays in QuickTime fine, but when I import it into PowerPoint I get a message on the screen saying "QuickTime and a MPEG-4 video decompressor are needed to see this picture. However the movie plays fine once I run the slideshow. I also tried copying a still frame from QT into Photoshop (Edit --> Copy, then paste into Photoshop) and I get the same message. How can I stop this message from occurring and show the still frame as normal in the presentation, prior to running the movie?
View 4 Replies View RelatedLong ago, last year to be exact, I had a Macbook Pro 2009, with Open Office and MS Office older versions installed. They played embedded videos in both Impress and Powerpoint PERFECTLY.
This year I bought a Macbook Air and installed Open Office 4.1.0 and MS Office 2011. Now I cannot play any of the videos in these presentations.
I attempted to make new presentations and re-embed the videos. They play in Powerpoint fine ONCE, then not again. They do not embed at all in Open Office. The videos are all MP4 files.
This does not appear to be either a Microsoft or Open Office issue. To me this is clearly because of my upgrades. This is extremely frustrating, as I am a college professor and need to be able to use these programs without a problem. I also use presentations in my creative work.
I added a video to a keynote presentation and when I convert it to powerpoint the video doesn't play.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got my air a few days ago, as a 2nd computer, a portable to go with my desktop. however I am finding that it is actually a bit too slow for my needs (i got the 1.6/80gb), even as a secondary computer.
I kinda wanted to use the air as my appletv device - to watch all the things I've downloaded on my desktop on my HDTV, which is in another room.
Loading up youtube and flash heavy sites seems to make the fan speed up to full blast. Watching divx movies also makes it spin up to max.
Some video files (notably RMVB real player files) play very jerkily and result in dropped frames, but usually the audio is alright.
All in all, quite disappointing as its a nice little machine otherwise. Just the dropped video frames and fan spinning up to max to watch files is kinda hard to live with. Anyone else finding this with their air?

I can view it using Firefox 3.6.3, but can't view it using Safari 4.0.5.
However, when I right-click 'Inspect Element' on that video-showing area, and then continuously click the HTML codes that contain the movie URL, Safari 4.0.5 can play it.
I have a 27" iMac with a second monitor and I also have an LCD TV in my office. What I would LOVE to do is ditch the TV, and be able to take the stuff that is running into it, plug it into some magic "box" that would then let me just watch the output in some resizable window (in HD) on my Mac.
Is there *anything* that can do this on the mac?
I recently have experienced trouble trying to watch online videos. QuickTime (.mov) correctly plays videos with sound, in the other hand Flash, Real-Player (.rm) or Windows Media (.wmv) videos are played with absolutely no audio. I first noticed problems trying to watch videos at CNN, so I tested different web-pages, like You-Tube, and alternative file formats, but no success. Later I tried to open the videos' URLs directly through the players, assuming that Safari was my problem... still no sound. I also frequently listen to iTunes, yet I quit the application before watching other media.

When I try to play a wmv file on my Mac I get the audio but no video. I've downloaded the latest version of Flip4Mac but that doesn't seem to help. I recently "upgraded" to Lion. Any connection?? All I have open is firefox with one or two tab and the CPU gets into the high 70 Celsius before the fan kicks in. Is it normal for the CPU to get that hot? Or is it even safe? It says I am using up to 70% of CPU at times!!!Is HD flash that taxing?

I watch a lot of HD video on my i5 and it mostly handles it without a hiccup but on occasion there is some slight stuttering when there is fast motion (with 1080p, the 720p stuff is handled well)...I think the default chip for most video is the Intel HD but I would think the nVidia would better handle these bigger files...any thoughts?
(of course with battery use I know the nVidia is a resourse/energy hog)
I've been pondering whether to get the hi res upgrade for my soon-to-be MBP 15''. I was curious as to how HD videos/movies would play with the hi-res. From what I have heard, this upgrade still wont support full 1080 right? will there be a big difference playing 720p on this upgraded screen vs. a non upgraded screen?

Now, I noticed when I go onto Youtube the computer freezes for about 5-10 seconds as soon as the page loads. This just started happening about an hour or 2 ago. This is also happening when I'm listening to iTunes radio, and an advertisement commercial comes on. If the advertisement plays a video, and iTunes is maximized on my screen my screen will freeze for about 5-10 seconds.
I am brand new to using a Mac so I don't know where anything is or how to use it 100% yet.

Macbook pro randomly restarts and the white screen comes up with "Your computer restarted because of a problem.." does it 75% of the time. It is doing it while video is playing. Recently purchased new mac book pro (refurbished) from apple store. Upgraded it to Mavericks straight away. I've installed it to the latest updates.

installed Win 7 with no issues except it doesn't recognize the Apple keyboard an wireless mouse. Rebooted in Win 7 and put in OS X disk and reran bootcamp as it said. Still doesn't see them and in Windows, the screen is on full bright and I don't see how to decrease it since the keyboard issue.
