Intel Mac :: Use A Wireless Keyboard With Apple Hardware Test?
Mar 15, 2012
I just bought my 27" iMac. It did not come with any install disks. I have tried everything to reach the Apple Hardware Test. Is it even possible to boot to it with a wireless keyboard? I hate to have to buy a new keyboard just to run one test. I can reach the Recovery HD, but the hardware test isn't there. (I know the computer is brand new, I just want to have the info when I will need it someday.) Â

I was just wondering what all of your thoughts were regarding these two keyboards. I know I can't get the Wireless Pro new anymore, however I can get it used for $20 from someone I know.
The new aluminum one however, I can get for about $40 used or just buy a new one for $70. I'm looking to buy a used one so it's pretty much the Wireless Pro for $20 vs the Wireless Aluminum for $40.
This will be going towards a set-up with my MBP which will be on an mstand, with an external monitor. I've already gotten the Magic Mouse so I'm trying to find a nice Bluetooth keyboard to compliment it.

How can I run AHT on my iMAC 21.5 inch, MID 2011 and Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50)? There were no DVDs in the package, no restart key-stroke combination connected to internet-aht, no aht is included in the package I bought and downloaded from Apstore. One of the 4 rear USB ports seems to be death from the very first moment. I would like to use the AHT to see if this is some SW misconfiguration or is it a HW problem.

My early 2008 24" has suddenly developed a problem - screen has gone black (initially it was 'black' with backlight on, now not even a backlight) The machine has Lion installed but it came with 10.5.2. I can access the machine via screen sharing & it all runs fine so I want to determine what is wrong with it. I dropped in my original grey system discs, pressed 'D' on start-up, nothing. It seems Lion no longer supports Hardware Test from discs on older machines. How I can run hardware test on this machine?

I have changed both sets of batteries. Turned them off and back on multiple times. Only reason I am able to ask this question is because I'm using my phone. I need my computer back. No I don't have a wired mouse or keyboard laying around. The mouse isn't registering or moving on the screen. The keyboard was working until I tried turning it off and back on. Now nothing is working.

Will the new, slim, wireless Apple keyboard work fine with Bootcamp running Windows Vista? Will Vista recognize the keyboard eveytime you log in, without having to re-program it everytime? I asked a worker at the Apple Store, and he said it should be fine except the "special controls". What are everyone's experience with the Apple keyboard on bootcamp?

My brother just got the new iMac but he wanted my wired keyboard with the num keys, so basically we switched. I gave him my extended wired keyboard and I took his wireless to use with my MBP 13in and LED CD. So here's the problem: All the function keys don't work properly. I went into System Preferences>Keyboard and I was able to reassign the brightness keys (F1 and F2), expose and dashboard (F3 and F4). The rest...is beyond me. If it helps, I got the 13 inch MBP the week it came out. I tired running new software updates but nothing seems to help. I also have Snow Leopard installed. edit: I also checked out Keyboard viewer and it keeps showing the extended keyboard layout

Several months ago, my white Apple Wireless Keyboard began malfunctioning - for example, typing 'a' would result in 'ahz'tu' or something to that effect. I thought perhaps the keyboard needed a thorough cleaning, so I turned off my computer and keyboard, removed all of the keys and brushed it clean with a stiff-bristled brush.
I replaced all of the keys (with the help of a diagram) and turned on my computer. However, my keyboard would not connect, and remained in 'discoverable' mode (the light on the back was blinking three times in succession). I turned it off, unpaired the computer and keyboard and replaced the batteries. Nothing changed.
Using the Bluetooth Setup Assistant, I tried to make a new pairing. The Setup Assistant recognised the keyboard as a discoverable device, but when it came to typing in the passcode and hitting Return nothing happened, and the connection timed out. I tried several times to enter the passcode; I closed and reopened the Setup Assistant; I restarted the computer and keyboard; and tried more than one fresh batch of batteries.
Since then, I have tried:
- repairing the keyboard everyday
- deleting all Bluetooth pairings (mouse, mobile phones etc).
- installing the latest Bluetooth firmware update
- deleting Bluetooth preferences in Library > Preferences
- running permissions repair on HD
- pairing with a separate D-Link dongle (tried every USB port, too)
- resetting PRAM
My Apple Wireless Mouse still works (connects and pairs). The keyboard wouldnt pair with another computer (MacBook running OS 10.5).

Bluetooth says my keyboard is paired, configured, and connected (and it works).Keyboard under System Preferences says "no keyboard found" and it continues to search for the keyboard. I have rebooted and also deleted and added the keyboard. Should I be concerned? Does the iMac need service ?

I was thinking of purchasing an Apple Wireless Keyboard, and an Apple Magic Mouse. I'm absolutely sure it'll be a wise investment, and an awesome Christmas gift. My current Mighty Mouse is quite horrible, I don't even have the ability to scroll up. Of course I don't bother to waste my time cleaning it. Oh well, they don't have a scroll bar for nothing.
The only problem is that I'm not sure if my Mac has the proper capabilities to enable usage for the wireless perpherials I'm planning to buy. This is somewhat how my Mac looks, though I'm running on Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3 (I purchased the disk). I believe my computer has Bluetooth, there's an Icon for it in System Preferences. In my System Profiler, it also has a Bluetooth tab (here's the information is shows, I just cropped out some info. at the top, and my name).
How do I know if my Mac is set for these two items?Looking forward to your responses.

If anyone is experiencing problems with the function keys on the new aluminum wireless keyboard, I have found a fix. Download and install the Wireless Mouse Software Update from Apple's support page.
Or rather I'll provide you with direct links: 10.5 Leopard: [URL]
10.6 Snow Leopard: [URL]
Download those, restart your computer and WHAM you'll have a bluetooth ultra thin keyboard with functions buttons that actually work. THE ISSUE: For some reason Apple computers recognize the new Aluminum keyboard as the old white keyboard. I discovered this by turning on keyboard viewer and realizing that the keyboard represented on screen had a numpad while mine did not. Supposedly Snow Leopard has an update already which recognizes this, however, we have all found that to be false. Install the mouse update and it'll all work out.

So for Christmas I received an Apple wireless keyboard to use with my macbook. All the regular keys are working just fine, but there is something wrong with the function keys. For example, the expos dashboard and brightness keys just dont work, and when I press the key with the fast forward picture on it, it goes into expos mode. Not even the sound buttons are working they are used as dashboard and clear desktop.
