View 2 RepliesWhen I try to open either of these 3 apps the system tells me they can't open because they are currently being updated. Software Update shows my system as needing no update. The last update that it shows was for ProApps Codecs v1.0.5. I am running a macbook pro / OS 10.9.3.
The manual download for that update, (ProApps Codecs v1.0.5), is a dead link,[URL].
I have one of the new black mac desktops with the exact same setup as my laptop. It's software updates list shows an update for the 3 apps I am having trouble opening on my laptop as having successfully installed. All 3 apps are working fine on the desktop system.
- trash my preferences on the laptop to force system update to reinstall the ProApps Codecs v1.0.5 update?
- fix the broken link at support.apple.com so I can manually install the ProApps Codecs v1.0.5 update?
- or perform some kind of Voodoo that will get my FCP, Motion, and Compressor opening again?

Having just upgraded the FCP suite to the latest (4.1.2 for Compressor) I've run into a bug that has been affecting other users in earlier versions, e.g.: Compressor 4.1.1 crashes when trying to create custom setting from scratch..Basically I run Compressor, and choose the "New Setting..." option under the lower left drop-down menu.
I get a spinning beach ball, then the app crashes.I've tried a full reinstall of the app after deleting it and it's associated preferences and app support files. I've also logged in under a clean new user account and the same thing happens, so it must be some issue on a system level.
The only workaround I've found from another thread is to duplicate an existing setting and modify it from there. But clearly it would be better if it didn't crash. For those who might be interested in the details, here is the crash log:
Process: Compressor [710]
Path: /Applications/Compressor.app/Contents/MacOS/Compressor
Identifier: com.apple.Compressor
Version: 4.1.2 (249189)

Much to my surprise it didn't seem to install on my system!... Still running 8.0.2.
Can anyone confirm?
Ever since I upgraded to snow leopard since it came out, I have been having problems with updates, such as iPhoto, iTunes everything and anything. Whenever there is a new update released by apple and I open up for example iTunes it tells me there is an update available, so I click on update. It downloads when it is done I click install, when it is installing I get an error saying:
The Update "Compressor Update" can't be saved. The update could not be expanded and verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs.
Since updating to Lion, and subsequently to QuickTime 10.1, many movies that worked fine before won't open now. I get an error that says, "A required codec is not available." Two things make this even more frustrating:
1. Some movies of the same type still open just fine. I can't seem to find a pattern that links the ones that won't open.
2. The movies that won't open are still available to preview in Finder. If they will play in Finder, why not in QuickTime? Isn't it just a QickTime "plug-in" that plays them in the Finder?

Does new 13" Macbook Pro box include iLife 09 dvd also? Else iLife 09 just installed on the system without any backup dvd? If i want to upgrade to a new hard disk, is cloning the original hard disk only way to retain iLife?

View 1 Replies View RelatedEven if you never 'install' Rosetta, PowerPC is still in yer system, slowin' U down. That means the only reason Rosetta has to be 'installed' is probably to reduce their licensing costs to Transitive (now IBM). Interestingly, there is some ppc in there:
Code:
$ file Foundation
Foundation: Mach-O universal binary with 3 architectures
Foundation (for architecture x86_64):Mach-O 64-bit dynamically linked shared library x86_64
Foundation (for architecture i386):Mach-O dynamically linked shared library i386
Foundation (for architecture ppc7400):Mach-O dynamically linked shared library ppc
I'll probably install Rosetta eventually, I just don't need any PPC software at the moment.
When I try to add a Nokia Mail account in the mail app for Mac, Iphone or Ipad, the app does not know the SMTP and IMAP server settings for Nokia Mail. It prompts me to enter the IMAP and SMTP server settings manually, which is not fun. It will be nice if Nokia Mail server settings were easily discoverable by the Mail app. What is the process to update the Mail settings server so that any Nokia Mail user in the future when adding his/her account does NOT have to manually enter the server settings?

Once i installed the latest safari update and the computer restarted, my date settings were changed to December 31, 2000. Also, random programs popped up, asking if i should allow or deny them. As well, i was disconnected from the internet. I'm not quite sure what has caused this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently updated my Leopard white MacBook to the latest available patch. Well, since then it seems like my home wifi settings don't get "remembered"; I have to enter the SSID and password every time I open my laptop. I also check the "remember" checkbox, and if I go to the wifi advanced settings IT IS there. But whenever I close my MacBook and open it again (regardless if it's 5 minutes or a whole day), I will have to input those settings again. Anybody with the same problem, or know of a fix?

I wanted to try to update it somehow using iTunes, but I need to update my IBook G4's iTunes first. But when I try my laptop just says it can't connect with the server. However, there's no problem with my internet connection.

This looks to be the first professional review of the new MBP line among all the big tech sites. The most interesting tidbits is a 17% increase in battery life over previous gen uMB, and new display looks quite good in the video.
i uploaded videos from my video camera and my Mac book pro does not recognize the codec? when quicktime tries to open the videos it says "Quicktime Player can't open "Filename.MPG" because a required codec isn't available." what does this mean and where do i get it? i wasted $20 on something that was supposed to help and didn't.

So I just got a new AppleTV for Christmas. I started saving my movies to my computer/iTunes. Tried Casino Royale with RipIt and it turned out great. However since then I've tried Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring (the extended edition) several different times and I just haven't gotten it to work.
Tried it with RipIt and it flat out didn't work. Didn't even result in a playable format. Tried Handbrake and the audio drops out completely 3/4 of the way through side A of the movie. Tried ripping it via MakeMKV then converting it to an AppleTV friendly format through Handbrake and the video turned out horrible. Then I tried ripping it via Mac The Ripper and then compressing via Handbrake it and once again the audio drops out completely. Is there any other way to get the extended edition of Lord of the Rings into iTunes with good video quality and not having the audio dropout problems?
I bought FCPX and Compressor because all my Kool-aid drinking Mac friends said you have to have this to edit (former Avid user). Learning as I go and I am very impressed with the FCPX software from where I came from.
However, I don't see anyway to make chaptered menus in Compressor 4? Really??? I know DVDs are not the future but they are sure the present right now. What they currently use to get a project off the timeline and into a chaptered DVD that I can duplicate and hand to people.....

My normal workflow is to shoot HDV 1080i60 and import via a Sony HD-700 clamshell via firewire into FCP 6.0.6 working with a sequence set to HDV 1080i60. Depending on my next steps, I'll either export straight from here, do a QT conversion, or transfer the sequence to a Pro Res sequence and export from there. I'll often send a compressed (H.264) file to the client via yousendit. Never has there been a problem with the workflow or the client opening the file on a PC...
Now the other day, for the first time I had to work off of my portable set-up....FCE off a macbook pro and an external 7200 rpm hard drive. I imported with the only available choice (apple intermediate codec) and went about my edit. I exported and sent the file....While the file was fine on my laptop the PC user could only HEAR the QT file but got no picture. I was able to burn a DVD and move the operation to my desktop.
But after countless attempts at troubleshooting, including printing to tape and reimporting, recapturing all the original footage from tape, using my standard sequence settings, etc. I still can only export a QT file that is unable to be properly viewed by PC users.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAm I able to copy the Compressor App (part of the final cut pro suite) to another Computer with a legitimate serial? It's only on one computer at present but I'd like to transfer it to another computer as it only has DVD Studio Pro and FCP - no compressor.
Can I just copy the Icon onto a HD and past it onto the other computer or will I have to copy all the files associated with it too?
Running 4.1.3 with FCPX and Send to Compressor has all of the distributed processing groups greyed out in the selection drop down. I can only run compressor on This Computer.
If I export the file from FCPX and then drop that into Compressor from the finder it works fine. Is there a reason it is not working when directly connected?
I have deleted and reinstalled both apps but get the same results.
