Feb 13, 2008I have an old PowerMac G4 7400 (450 Mhz) and I'd like to use it to replace an old Micron PC I'm using as a file server. My question is, what is the largest size HD I can install in it? I checked Mactracker and it said it only supported up to 128 GB per drive. But I didn't know if this was related to the OS at the time or whether it was a hardward limitation. If I'm running Tiger on it would it support a larger 500GB drive? If it is a hardware limitation I guess I could always add a couple external firewire drives. Let me know if this should have been posted in the "collectible forum".

I edit large MP2 video files and sometimes it's hard to remember where they all live... this tool was useful because MP2 files are so large, they often are the biggest files on my machine.

Will an 80gb hard drive work?? because I thought that they are only capable of 6gb hard drives, or is that the default controller for the Blue & White Power Macintosh Desktop?? And also am I correct in thinking that if this hard drive will work for this Bronze Keyboard, I will have to partition it for every OS I have on it. ?? However, if you make the font size too big it slips onto a second page and it will only fill half a page at its largest. Nov 10, 2010Apple has detailed the security issues patched by Mac OS X 10.6.5 and the corresponding Security Update 2010-007 for Mac OS X 10.5, indicating that more than half of the security vulnerabilities in Mac OS X actually affect the Adobe Flash plugin and X11.
Of the 131 security vulnerabilities identified and patched by the latest Mac OS X update (cataloged by their public Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures or CVE ID), 16 are related to X11, an optional install which enables Mac OS X to run apps designed for the Unix X Window specification. Another five are related to features in Mac OS X Server that are missing in the desktop version.
Nine more affect Apple's own QuickTime, one is related to the Mac OS X kernel, one affected Safari, and another 45 were found in various other code, including some that is proprietary to Apple (such as its AFP file server, CoreGraphics and CoreText) and some that is incorporated by Apple from open source projects into its operating system (including the Apache web server, CUPS printing, OpenLDAP, Python, and PHP).
However, the most security vulnerabilities by far are associated with the Adobe Flash plugin, with a whopping 55 issues listed, the "most serious of which may lead to arbitrary code execution," Apple reports in its Apple Product Security update.

Aug 23, 2010I was just thinking about the stuff I have on my HD, and I'm not really sure what is eating up the 500gb HD I have installed in it (with only 50gb or so available at the moment). The usual culprits (iTunes and iPhoto library) are both on externals.
And i don't *think* I've got nearly 450gb worth of audio work on here.
So my question is, is there an application that will scan through my system HD and tell me which olders/files are taking up the most space? This may give me some idea of what I should start getting rid of.
OS X :: Portable Hdd Will Not Mount?
Jan 7, 2010So, i'll try to be as detailed as possible. I have been using a Seagate FreeAgent Go 500GB portable hard drive (reformatted to HFS+) with my 13" Macbook Pro for a while now. I use my computer to rip my DVDs and put them on the hard drive to play on my Xbox 360. Things were working great until it stopped mounting on my Macbook (or any other computer running OS X). The strange part is that it is still recognized in disk utility, but when i try to "mount" it it says something to the effect of "an error has occurred, try repairing the disk". However, when i attempt to repair the disk it says that it is fine. Also, i have tried to use an external power source so power is not the issue.

Feb 16, 2012I did a bunch of research and found a bunch of conflicting information. My question to you all is this:are there any good, portable external hard drives that support both FireWire and USB?I have an iMac and an MB Pro, but a lot of people I know don't; I would like to use the FireWire and still be able to use the hard drive with others' computers who do not.I was looking for something that: did not require an actual electrical plug (wanted the USB/FireWire to be used as the power source)is at least 1TB (would prefer 1.5TB)is (preferably but doesn't have to be) rugged.I plan on doing some traveling and whatnot and just throwing it my bag; I'd probably go a while without having a chance to really maintain it, hence my wanting these things.
The main ones I was looking at are the LaCie MiniRugged, LaCie Rugged, Transcend Storejet 25H2P and 25M2, and the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex.Unfortunately, I've either heard bad reviews or they don't meet all my criteria. The LaCies, for example, were said by some to be outdated, flimsy, etc. (and the mini doesn't have a FireWire port).The Transcends don't do FireWire, nor does the Seagate.In case anyone was wondering, I included the Seagate becaue I have a friend who just got back from a year-long trip bumming around Asia with it and it stood up fine (but, again, no FireWire) I was wondering if anyone could suggest anything.

Aug 28, 2009So I currently have a Lacie "Porsche designed" 320GB external hard drive which I use for Time Machine. The major problem is that it is huge and requires an external power source. Also, the rubber bits on the bottom came off because I have had it for a while and so now whenever Time Machine backs up, you can hear the drive on the table.
I have been thinking about getting a portable drive like a WD Passport Essential because it doesn't need a power source. Does anyone have any experience of these drives with Time Machine or any others to recommend?
Also how much will running the drive when my 13" 2.53 MacBook Pro is on battery power affect the battery life? Secondly, if I have a 250GB internal HD, how big an external drive should I be looking at?
