Hardware :: Using Vizio HDTV 22" - Cuts Off Like A Fourth Of An Inch Of Screen On Both Sides

Feb 23, 2009

I am using a Macbook (white version) and I am using a mini-dvi to vga adapter and its in the highest resolution it will go, and I have tried all the other resolutions as well, and it still does it. The problem is that the screen is acting like its to wide to fit the TV, it cuts off like a fourth of an inch of screen on both sides, and I have no clue if there is a way to fix this, but I reinstalled leopard a while back and thats when I started noticing it.

Mac Pro :: Black Border Around All Sides Of Screen When Connecting To HDTV Via HDMI

Sep 8, 2008

I've seen a few posts about this problem on Macrumors and through Google searches, but I haven't found a solution to the "Black Border" problem some of us are having when connecting Macs to HDTV's via HDMI cables. Nor am I certain what the cause of the problem is: Mac?, TV?, HDMI cable length?

For me, resetting PRAM by holding Command-Option-P-R at startup and waiting for two chimes removes the black border for up to several computer restarts, but eventually the border comes back until I reset PRAM, again.

I have a 55' long HDMI cable from Monoprice ("HDMI Tin-Plated Copper CL2 Rated (For In-Wall Installation) Cable (22AWG) - 35ft (Gold Plated)") running from a Mac Pro with an ATI Radeon video card to a 52" Mitsubishi 1080p HDTV.

To clarify, this is not just a black bar at the top and bottom like when watching certain DVD's, but a black border around all four sides that effectively reduces the size of your TV from, e.g. 52" to 46" whether watching movies, surfing the web, or otherwise using the Mac via an HDTV

MacBook :: Unable To Use HDTV As Primary Screen / Cuts Off Portions Of The Screen

May 12, 2009

I've got my MacBook attached to my 40" Sony Bravia HDTV (KDL40W4500), and when I mirror the display or use the HDTV as the primary screen it cuts off portions of the screen like the main toolbar on top, as well as some of the dock. I tried to change the Screen Format on my TV but that doesn't seem to work, does anyone know how to fix this?

Hardware :: Connect MAC Mini To LCD HDTV Vizio Xvt553sv?

Jan 1, 2011

Getting an "Invalid Format" message from my new HDTV (Vizio xvt553sv) when I connect my mac mini. This is a big deal, because the Mac mini is the front end for all my movies and music, which have been digitized. We watch all of our movies on the HDTV through the Mac Mini. So we are movie-less until I get this working.

My Windows 7 laptop shows on the HDTV fine. My mac mini shows on other monitors fine. Some kind of incompatibility between the Mac and the TV. Anyone run into this and have some suggestions?

I have tried all of the TV manufacturer recommended resolution x timing/Hertz settings on the Mac Mini.

Mac Mini model 1.1. , RAM 1.5GB, snow leopard OS, connecting to TV with DVI to VGA connection. (TV only has VGA, HDMI and Component connection.)

Mac Pro :: Topic : Cinema Display Cuts Out And Can't Access With Screen Sharing?

Feb 19, 2008

A weird thing has started happening to my Mac Pro today. After using it for a few minutes the cinema display it is attached to on the Mac Pro just goes black. The Mac Pro is clearly still on - the light is on and i can hear the fans. The Mac Pro shows up on my local network and i can connect to it and access files from my Macbook, but screen sharing doesn't work (i just get the message 'contacting mac pro' and nothing else) and i can't connect to shared iTunes library either, which makes me think it is not just a display issue. I cannot wake the computer with the mouse or keyboard, which makes me think it isn't just a sleep issue. All i can do is physically turn the Mac Pro off, start it up and it will start up successfully and then work for a few more minutes before i get the same problem. I have reset the PRAM and SMC and still have the same problems. Can anyone suggest anything else i can try?

I should mention that i have another problem with the Mac Pro in that it has been spontaneously waking up from sleep and starting up from shutdown, and i still haven't resolved this. I don't know if it is connected to the above issue.

IMac :: Using HDTV As Primary Screen?

Jan 22, 2009

I'm thinking about buying a mac mini to use with an HDTV as the primary screen. I've read some other posts regarding this. My question is, which method of hooking the setup up (i.e., which cables) provides the best picture. I've done this with a PC before but the connection was crumby... is this the case with the mac mini? Will I be able to get the same resolution that I can in a monitor? Also, I have looked at a ton of HDTVs and find the picture to be pretty bad compared to older TVs. Can anyone reccommend a model in the $500-700 range that has a good picture.

Hardware :: MacBook Pro Connected To HDTV - Screen Cut Off?

Aug 26, 2010

I have a 2010 Macbook pro and I just ordered a minidisplayport to HDMI cord. I was able to get it all set up to my Sylvania 22" HDTV HERE but I can't seem to get the resolution right. I've tried multiple resolutions both via the control panel and NVidia's control panel. Keep in mind I'm running Windows 7 via bootcamp. I'm able to get the resolution to look pretty clear, but by doing so it cuts off the edges of the screen, where as if I get it so it all shows up on the screen, it doesn't look as clear.

The TV and the Mac recognize each other but the screen continues to flash/blink every second (almost like it is loosing conenction). I check the cords and everything is fine which I assumed because everything is fine when I'm connected to the HP monitor.

Hardware :: How To Use Vizio VW26L

May 22, 2008

I'm using a Vizio VW26L as an external display using a VGA cable and the DVI to VGA adapter that came with my MBP. My only goal is to get a 16:9 aspect ratio on the Vizio, but the closest option is 1280x768, which slightly stretches everything horizontally. I think that by using a DVI to HDMI cable I might be able to get 1280x720, but I want make sure before I order one.

If there's anyone with a Vizio VW26L using DVI to HDMI, can you confirm whether or not 1280x720 or 1366x768 is supported? I seem to be the only person on the net with this TV.

MacBook Pro :: HDTV Monitor Not Full Screen When Connected To Powerbok?

May 1, 2007

I'm using a DVI->HDMI cable to connect my Powerbook to my Sony LCD TV. The Sony's native resolution is 1366x768. For some reason my Powerbook doesn't want to switch to this resolution. I can get 1280x720, but this leaves a black border around the images the whole time.

I've tried setting a custom resolution using the trial version of SwitchResX but to no avail. It won't do it.
Anybody have any similar experiences and possibly found a fix?

OS X :: 27" Connected To HDTV Blue Screen Options In A System

Jun 6, 2010

I have a 27" iMac and an LG 47" 1080p HDTV. I just bought the Griffin Video Display Converter, which is certified by Apple to pass both video and audio from the mini display port on the late 2009 iMacs. Whenever somebody turns on the HDTV the iMac's screen flickers the color blue on and off, sometimes staying that way permanently. Permanently the color blue that is. The only way to get out of it is to turn the iMac off and then back on (restarting it).I have the ?Mirror Displays? checkbox checked in the ?Display Preferences?. When I uncheck that box it treats the connected HDTV as an extension to the iMac display, whether the HDTV is on or off, which makes my cursor disappear off one side of the screen. This is why I leave mirroring on.

OS X :: Unable To Connect To HDTV / Screen Turns Blue With System Crash

Jul 4, 2009

The first time I connected to my HDTV using a mini displayport-dvi and a dvi-hdmi adapter, it worked flawlessly. Stupidly, I set my TV to a resolution it couldn't support. Now the screen only turns blue until System Preferences eventually crashes and the TV gets no signal.

I've tried clearing my PRAM, deleting the profile in the colorsync folder, and even deleting /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist out of desperation. I've confirmed that it's not a problem with the adapters by successfully getting another HDTV to work. Where could could OS X be storing the display's settings?

Hardware :: Running Both Screens - MacBook To Vizio LCD TV

Jun 4, 2009

So I bought my MacBook a year ago and I just bought cords for my laptop to my TV. I bought a Mini DisplayPort to DVI cord than an Xtreme HD cord thats DVI to HDMI. For some reason however I can't get the sound to play off of my TV no matter what, it only plays on my laptop and I was told it would be able to just fine, however for me thats not the case. Second when I link the two screens up together my TV will just have the Background no icon's or anything just the plain simple background. Once I click "Mirror Screens" then my laptop screen is completely small for me and my TV one is just fine, but when I open applications b/c my laptop screen is so small like the "Play" button for movies is nearly impossible to hit because its right behind the dock.

So my questions are: How do I get sound out of my Mini DisplayPort to DVI & DVI to HDMI cord instead of buying an audio cord from laptop to TV.

How can I mirror screens correctly to keep the same size on my laptop screen for when I open things they aren't smushed or hard to play.
