My iMac is one of the late 2009 models (bought Jan2010). My screen has started to flicker over the past couple of days. I have the correct screen firmware.
Info:
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
I just received my 21.5 inch imac refurbished. It is the 2011 model. I really like it, but the screen seems to constantly be adjusting brightness...Almost as if it is "flickering every 5-10 seconds. It is extremely annoying, and I think I will have to return it to apple. So another two weeks of waiting for a computer.
Info:
iMac, iOS 5.1
Did the updated 10.6.2 SL that came out today fix the screen flickering issue for anyone?any other problems fixed, you can post here :-)
View 5 Replies View Relatedim guessing this is a heat issue. My screen was flickering and cutting out. This is the first time it has happened. I was only surfing the internet and using itunes. I will post videos of what happened soon.

I was using safari and my screen locked up. Large areas got distorted and little (maybe 1/8" blocks) started flickering all over the screen. It wouldn't recognize any input from my keyboard or mouse. This really scares me for a number of reasons: I wasn't doing anything very difficult to cause the crash, The computer has basically nothing on it, and the reason I bought a mac was for its stability. I head back to school tomorrow (read: I head far away from a mac store), and I need to know if I should go by the mac store before I leave. It's a 27" i5 if that makes any difference.

Apparently there might be a way to convert the HDMI to a miniDV display.
Is this really possible?
Has anybody really achieved it?
What kind of cable/adapter do you need to buy?
Does anyone know if it's possible to use a 24 inch iMac as a Target Screen? I know it's possible for 27 so there must be a hack or terminal command line that I can enter to achieve this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe screen randomly turns black without any major reasons. It doesn't seem to be a sleep mode/screen saver thing as the music continues to play on. I can adjust the volume or pause the music with the keyboard but the screen just won't turn back on. I have to shut it down using the power button and it happened several time the last couple days. Anyone else experience the same thing and got a solution?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy lovely cat recently decided to walk around my desk while I was at work and knocked over my Imac, causing a large crack in the glass and the screen. I'm not technically capable enough to do the install of the screen/glass myself, but I was wondering what I should expect a repair from an Apple certified technician to run.
View 2 Replies View RelatedA few months ago, i noticed what looked like a streak across the screen, but it wasnt on the outside, it was on the under side of the glass. Now, the streak is very visible esp in natural lighting. Its not noticable at night, because the screen light shines through it making it invisible.
It looks like dust? But im not 100% sure, but it has a directional pattern which leads me to believe its being causes by the inner fans of the system, and that there are some gaps where the air flow is constant. Also, the streak is in the upper left hand corner mostly (no where on the bottom poritions). Im assuming that the place holder at the top-backside of the iMac, for the exhaust fans to expell the heat from within, is what is causing this air flow.
I have a 27" iMac. Just recently, the screen has begun to randomly shut off. I then have to squeeze the power button, followed by a click of the mouse. This will bring me back to my password screen. Sometimes, that would be it, other times, it will do it repeatedly, for no reason, and then settle down.
Just for those of you who are bound to ask me about my Energy saving settings: Computer to sleep – Never. Display to sleep – 15 min.
It seems to me that this could be a hardware issue, but just incase any of you have had any experience of something similar, I thought I would ask.

I have an inch wide white stripe that runs from the top to the bottom of my screen. This is on an Imac. The cursor disappears when going through it but pops out on the other side. It doesn't move but I can drag my window back and forth to view the part the stripe covers.
Any ideas or should I locate a local mac repair person?
How do I turn off Ichat on my IMac 21.5 inch screen? Whenever I turn on the computer, the ichat screen just pops open all of a sudden?

The new 27-inch iMac uses up to 365W vs 280W for the old 24-inch! (going by Apple's published max. power consumption numbers. I doubt they would lie because it isn't exactly favourable for them to put in falsely high numbers in an environmental report).
That means there's some extra beef behind the extra components. Perhaps the ATI 4670 is a bit overclocked and the 4850 runs a bit faster than the old iMacs? Admittedly that 2.8 GHz i7 is going to suck a fair bit of power - the recent 2.8 GHz i7 860 model runs at a 95W TDP, however, the quad core iMac isn't available until November. So it won't be using the i7 860, and my guess it is using another custom processor, something a bit more power efficient, somewhere in between the 55W TDP of the old iMacs and the 95W TDP of the i7 860.
The difference between the power consumption of the two computers is 85W. The old iMac had a 24-watt digital amplifier, this new one has two 17-watt amplifiers. That brings the delta down to 75W. Say the iMac's i7 processor has an 80W TDP. That now brings the delta down to 50W. The new display likely wouldn't increase power consumption because of the LED backlight.
I'm not sure if I'm missing much (OK, two extra RAM chips may use another few watts), but there is still a fairly massive 50W unaccounted for.
Just a bit of fat to chew on
Does anyone know if the panel used in Apples 24 inch Cinema display is the same as the 24 inch iMac?
View 3 Replies View RelatedHello everyone, I'm currently looking to buy a 27 inch imac and can't decide whether to get a base i3 27 inch or a refurbished i5 quad core 27 inch. With the i3 I can get the student discount and qualify for the ipod, but the i5 is 23% off right now. Which should I get? Also is there a benefit of getting a 5 series graphics card over a 4 series graphics card?
View 4 Replies View RelatedHas anyone noticed a very slight flicker on their new MBPs? I have a new 13" and, every so often, the screen brightness dims and then brightens very quickly (happens in less than a second). The option for auto-adjusting the screen brightness is off so it's not that particular function. It's most noticeable on all-white backgrounds both on AC and battery power. Hard drive access doesn't seem to coincide with the dimming.
View 17 Replies View RelatedThing is I got hold of a 1ghz 17" iMac almost for free, it had a dead logicboard (I checked it with a voltage-meter), but I figured I could fix it and have a small hobby project-thingie going on. Well I just got a new logic board today, for a 1ghz 17" iMac g4.
Things is I only get a bright grey screen from my Mac when I boot. I've tried connecting it to a external display and that works fine. Everything is there.
I then reinstalled Tiger on it, with the computer connected to my external screen. And I still have the same problem. (I have now disconnected the ext. screen and is controlling the iMac from my MBP). So at least it isn't the installation.
So what is the problem? I can via an Apple Keyboard control the brightness on the blank screen, which would indicate that it does react to input of some degree.
I've read that if the inverter is dead or anything else is dead, you would get a rolling grey screen, flicker or something like that and not a steady bright grey. One thing I'm thinking is. What if somehow this logic board was for a 15" 1ghz imac g4? Can I check this?
I read that long thread about guys buying hi-res displays for their MBPs, and they had to replace some display profile? Could I maybe fix it with a different display profile-file?
I'm really confused by all this, and would appreciate any help I can get.
Model: PowerMac6,1
CPU-Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)
and
the gfx chip is a GeforceMX4 with 32mb.
The display is a mode 9c27, manufacturer 610, serialnumber 00000, manufacture date: B84D7200.
I've had the new macbook air just two days now. Turned it on this morning, used it for like 5 minutes and the screen just started flickering, and the whole machine just froze on me! Had to do a system reset, but I'm a little concerned after spending over a grand on this macbook! Has anyone else experienced this? I'm actually thinking about returning the machine..
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I have noticed a few times already, that the screen on my white macbook flickers to change the brightness level. It can do this while the computer is plugged in and charging, or if it's off the charger. It is definitely noticeable as it causes me to just watch what the screen is doing.
View 13 Replies View RelatedMy screen just started to occasionally have a flicker of a white line show up...It doesn't happen that often, should i worry? Is it worth taking it into apple? (Under warranty still) Since its not consistent i wont necessarily be able to show them what its doing..
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got a MacBook Pro back in April, my first Mac.
I love it so much. I'm really into video editing and HD video, but the problem is that my MBP is running out of harddrive space, and I'm longing for a bigger display and a better processor. (I have the 13" C2D). I'm going to pick up an iMac this Spring. But I wanted to know if I should stick to the Core i3 21.5, or spend more and go for the 27 inch.
First I wasn't quite sure about the issue, but sometimes I thought my MBA display was flickering. Then I found this thread

Does your screen flicker too, when you watch this pattern ?

My white Macbook, the one i'm currently typing on; the screen keeps flickering. 've uploaded a video taken from my cell phone of the screen flickering. I love my white macbook but the screen keeps flickering until I keep adjusting the angle of the screen. Some days the screen flickering is minimal and I'll adjust the screen easily with minimal screen flickering. Other days i'll be adjusting for a few minutes until I can get it at an angle where the screen doesn't flicker. Here is the link of the screen flickering: [URL]I've noticed there is less/to no flickering at all the closer I adjust the screen downward, i.e., the closer it is towards the macbook itself being closed.
As for the Macbook itself, it was purchased in December 2006 and have had AppleCare since. In June of 2007 I took it in to Apple since I noticed the screen flickering very minimally only when the screensaver came on. I was then told a small soda spill was on the logic board and AppleCare would not cover it, though I was still covered regarding all cosmetic repairs, aside from that soda spill. It hasn't been till the past 2 months the screen flickers heavily and I'm just sitting at my desk adjusting the screen until there is no flickering so I can get my work started. I was considering selling my Macbook for anyone that wouldn't mind the screen flickering but i've upgraded this Macbook with a 500 GB hard drive and before attempting to sell it i'd rather fix the problem myself.
Everyone, I'm all ears. I'd love to fix this problem. If it means completely voiding my AppleCare warranty and opening up my Macbook, so be it. the warranty expires in 6 months anyway.
I did a quick search of the forums, and so I know there are previous threads about this. But my screen is flickering a lot lately and so I plan on either sending it to Apple, Driving 3 hours to Dallas since it's the closest Apple store, or taking it to an authorized repair place here in town. I just have a few questions for anyone that has either had this problem before or maybe just has dealt with repair issues before.1. Should I wipe my Hdd?2. Which of the three options would be the better bet?3. Anyone know if they would just fix it or if they would replace it?
View 9 Replies View RelatedApologies if this has been posted before, but rather than trawling through the thousands of threads, and before hitting the Genius Bar.... thought I would run this by the experienced MBP owners first.Got my first MBP (crossed over from PC back in April), and within the last couple of weeks, noticed that the screen is flickering intermittently.
Wondered if it's a glitch stemming from the switch from Graphics card as/when needed, or if it's an indication of something more serious and warrants taking it in to the Genius Bar... (don't want to part with it for days unnecessarily).
I went on a website only to noticed the black lines & columns on the page, especially at the bottom, gives off a noticeable flicker on my 13'' MBA.
Obviously with the issues of MBA screens, I'd like to check with you if the same thing occurs on yours? I'm finding it very worrisome that my screen could be faulty.

Leave it for a 10 secs and the black lines flicker quite noticeably on mine ( I have click to flash installed & you tube 5 extensions.
