Or is it just better to get an external writer?

my current drive is FUJITSU MHY2250BH which came with the macbook.
I need a biggeer drive, the biggest possible, and I would like 7200rpm as i do alot of audio intensive work etc and really push the laptop.
i found a 500gb fujitsu, but the dimensions are slightly diff to my current drive.
should i make sure the dimensions are exactly the same? eg to the millimetre??
i just want to know about what specs to watch out for.
i live in uk, so dont really want to buy from a usa retailer.
also, would i be able to use my current drive as an external drive? how could i plug it into macbook? an enclousre? or just a wire?
i also have a bootcamp partition currently.
would the new drive be a simple change over? ie. no need to reinstall any app or boot camp from scratch again? i think i read that we can just use a time machine back up to put my current macbook drive state onto the new drive.

I read a thread a few days ago that said there is no CPU temp change between lid closed and lid opened. And after doing some of my own testing I now believe that information is FALSE.
I use smcFanControl to control fan speed and monitor CPU temp.
Before using smcFantControl to boost my fan speed to constantly run at 3,400RPM, my CPU temp was 10-20 degrees (celsius) higher, on average.

Nov 10, 2007I want to keep my applications etc on one internal HD and use my second internal HD as a back up.I am a graphic designer, and i have been backing up to an external LACIE Porche 160 Gig firewire HD. This has worked fine, but...My second internal HD (112 gig?) is still loaded with 10.3 and has adobe CS2 on it along with some other crap that I no longer need.I have loaded Adobe CS3 on my primary drive and have all the files I need on that one...What is the best way to set up my second HD as a "slave" drive to improve the performance of my G5 dual 2 Ghz??Will there be any issues now that I loaded Leopard on the primary HD?

Feb 10, 2012How do I transfer all data from my old internal hard drive to a new internal hard drive? I have an iMac with a 320gb internal HD that is full and I am replacing it with a 2tb internal drive. I have several external drives; 1 tb, 2tb and 3 tb. The 2 tb is being used for Time Machine. Do I have to buy an enclosure? If so, where would I get an inexpensive one? I also want to partition the new internal drive for Windows, and I'm not sure how much space to use for that. I plan to use Windows to check my work in PowerPoint created on my Mac for clients on PCs.

Apr 8, 2012I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro 17" computer. I bought a 750gb Hitachi drive in an upgrade kit from OWC. I have formatted it and now using Carbon Copy Cloner am making a copy of the internal 500gb drive. I am not very familiar with Mac OS X drive partitions. When Carbon Copy Cloner copies the 500gb partition from my Pro, will it leave the other 250gb or will I need to use Disk Utility or somethng else to format the remaining space? I would like to put the 750gb in the Pro moving the current 500gb into the external housing if possible.

I am currently in the process of ripping my dvd collection would I benefit from this? I assume I would save the internal drive a lot of wear and tear this way, but my need is for the increase in speed.

MacBook Pro :: Internal Hard Drive Ejects On Its Own
Sep 15, 2010I got a new 1tb WD internal hard drive and I took it out of the box and popped it right into my macbook pro 15". It fits and i am able to easily close the back on the computer. My only problem is that when i start up the computer, it loads for a few minutes, but 100% of the time after about 3-4 minutes i get a notice saying I did not eject the drive safely and all that. After that the internal hard drive is no longer there. I cant see it in my finder, or disk utility. BTW I am booting from my old hard drive externally. What would cause the new internal hard drive to eject itself?

MacBook :: Transfer Files From External To Internal Drive?
Oct 2, 2010I have a quick question that maybe you guys can help me with. I used to store all my music on an external drive, but now that I got a Mac I decided to just save them on the internal drive. When I select the External drive and Copy the files to transfer somewhere along the lines it gives me an error and pretty much the transfer Stalls(the transfer window stays open but nothing is being moved) and it wont close or nothing unless I restart. I really don't know what file is corrupt or anything, Is there a software I can get to make this process easier? I am trying to transfer over 100gb of music Via USB.

Buy 2.5" external Firewire 800 hard drive enclosure
Buy 2.5" SATA drive (probably 500gb WD Black or something)
Step 2:
Whack new drive into new enclosure and fire it up
Step 3:
Clone my existing 250GB internal MBP hard drive to the new one in the enclosure using Carbon Copy Cloner etc
Step 4:
Remove new hard drive from enclosure and use it to replace the internal hard drive in my Mac
Step 5:
All being well stick the old hard drive in the enclosure and use it as an external

Also, regarding the installation of the drive itsef: I've seen some guides on how to install it and they seem a little hard to accomplish. My experience with this kind of procedure so far is related to installing ram, which seems to be really easier. MacBook Pro :: Unibody Boot From External Drive But Not Internal?
Aug 7, 2009I started this situation with a bootable hard drive that I removed from a 4,1 (mid 2008) and a brand new unibody MacBook Pro. What I wanted to do was use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the old drive to the new MBP. I used CCC to clone the drive to the new one and repaired permissions on the internal drive and tried booting from it. No Luck. I figured this was stupid to do and I could just use migration assistant so I decided to reinstall Leopard on the unibody. Unfortunately when I attempt to boot from the DVD it doesn't go past a blank grey screen. I also tried holding down option to open the boot manager and select the DVD, when hit enter over the DVD it freezes. The interesting thing is that when I connect the old drive to the unibody using an enclosure I can boot from the external drive no problem. I tried using another computer to install leopard on the unibody over firewire and the installation went fine but when I start the unibody it doesn't go past a blank grey screen. I am also positive the hard drive isn't damaged or anything because when I go to the boot manager after leopard is installed the internal drive shows up but when I select it, it freezes. I have tried resetting the PRAM, NVRAM, repairing the disk (which is successful). When I try to boot into single user mode the computer freezes when loading the text. Another interesting thing is that when do boot from the external drive it goes through verbose mode every time and I never choose to do that. Right now I am attempting to clone drive using Super Duper to new drive and see what happens.

Feb 18, 2010I have a 1st generation Macbook laptop. I swapped out the original 80GB HD & installed a larger 320GB internal HD I recently bought on Ebay. At 1st, everything seemed ok, the hard drive mounted ok and I went ahead and proceeded to 1st partition the drive into 4 80GB separate partitions, with a plan to install Snow Leopard on one of the partitions, have 1 for room for a backup drive, and the other 2 partitions would host Windows 7 & possibly Linux, via (bootcamp). After experiencing some frustration with the installation of Snow Leopard, it appeared everything was ok, so then I went ahead and migrated my entire original 80GB mac factory HD over into 1 of my partitions. Everything seemed to go quite smoothly up to this point. However, soon afterwards, my HD somehow was no longer mounting! It still has not mounted ever since this time. I have tried taking the HD out and swapping it with the old one and it still will not mount. However, the original hard drive mounts right away without any issues. My entire livelihood is essentially thru my computer as an online grad student, so I went out to Frys Electronics & purchased a WD Scorpion Blue 500 GB HD after experiencing all of these issues. The new HD is working flawlessly. However, my issue and question is, what can anyone with technical knowledge suggest I do to completely erase the other non-mounting HD? I plan to send the non-mounting HD back for reimbursement to the Ebay seller soon. I'm concerned because, as I previously mentioned up above, this HD still potentially is holding all of my personal information from my previous drive I had for years installed into the macbook.
