MacBook Pro :: OS X Not Seeing Internal Drive Upon Booting?

Jun 13, 2010

I recently switched my hard drive to a new one where I installed OS X. For some reason when I swapped the new drive, it doesn't see the drive when booting, but I can still see it recognize when I boot off a map and an extended partition)

MacBook Pro :: Internal HDD Isn't Detected Anymore While Booting

Jun 5, 2014

My internal hdd isn't detected anymore while booting. What happened: after plugging in an USB-printer my macbook freezed immediately and I had to shut down by pressing 5 seconds on power button. I pressed power on button and my internal hdd isn't detected anymore while booting (question mark is blinking).

After replacement by a new ssd and booting via USB the new ssd isn't detected, too.Is the internal SATA3 cable broken or is it a defect of some kind of SATA3 controller assemled on mainboard?

Software :: Booting From External With Complete Image Of Internal HD

Apr 18, 2010

I'm running OS X 10.4.11 on a 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro and I want to make a copy of the entire internal HDD on a external (500 Gb) drive, so that I would be able to boot from the external hard-drive. I'm interested in doing it because I want to have a back-up for the internal HDD, in case it fails, I'll just plug-in the external HDD, boot from it and continue working using only the external HDD, which will be an image of the actual internal one. Please tell me if this is possible? If yes, how exactly do I create a bootable, full disk image of the entire internal HDD, how do I copy it on the external HDD and how do I boot from the external drive?

Power Mac G5 :: Want To Use Second Internal HD As An Internal Back Up Drive?

Nov 10, 2007

I want to keep my applications etc on one internal HD and use my second internal HD as a back up.I am a graphic designer, and i have been backing up to an external LACIE Porche 160 Gig firewire HD. This has worked fine, but...My second internal HD (112 gig?) is still loaded with 10.3 and has adobe CS2 on it along with some other crap that I no longer need.I have loaded Adobe CS3 on my primary drive and have all the files I need on that one...What is the best way to set up my second HD as a "slave" drive to improve the performance of my G5 dual 2 Ghz??Will there be any issues now that I loaded Leopard on the primary HD?

Intel Mac :: How To Transfer All Data From Old Internal Hard Drive To A New Internal Hard Drive?

Feb 10, 2012

How do I transfer all data from my old internal hard drive to a new internal hard drive? I have an iMac with a 320gb internal HD that is full and I am replacing it with a 2tb internal drive. I have several external drives; 1 tb, 2tb and 3 tb. The 2 tb is being used for Time Machine. Do I have to buy an enclosure? If so, where would I get an inexpensive one? I also want to partition the new internal drive for Windows, and I'm not sure how much space to use for that. I plan to use Windows to check my work in PowerPoint created on my Mac for clients on PCs.

MacBook Pro :: Replacing Internal Drive With Larger Drive On 17"?

Apr 8, 2012

I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro 17" computer. I bought a 750gb Hitachi drive in an upgrade kit from OWC. I have formatted it and now using Carbon Copy Cloner am making a copy of the internal 500gb drive. I am not very familiar with Mac OS X drive partitions. When Carbon Copy Cloner copies the 500gb partition from my Pro, will it leave the other 250gb or will I need to use Disk Utility or somethng else to format the remaining space? I would like to put the 750gb in the Pro moving the current 500gb into the external housing if possible.

MacBook Pro :: Will A External DVD Drive Be Quicker Than The Internal Drive

Oct 25, 2010

I am considering buying an external Dvd Drive they all seem to have a max speed of 8x, as does my macbook pro drive.

I am currently in the process of ripping my dvd collection would I benefit from this? I assume I would save the internal drive a lot of wear and tear this way, but my need is for the increase in speed.

MacBook Pro :: Booting Off USB Optical Drive?

Feb 17, 2010

So I have a 2.2GHz SR MBP, and the superdrive just went out on me. It will read and write to CDs, but won't recognize any DVDs that I insert into it. I bought a USB enclosure and DVD drive, and it works fine to read and write to DVDs when in Snow Leopard, but I am unable to boot from it (specifically so I can install Windows 7, but I can't boot SL either). I reboot and and hold down option, and only see Macintosh HD, not the disk I'm trying to boot off. I've cloned SL to my flash drive and I can boot off that fine, but unfortunately I'm unable to do that with Windows...

Any ideas? I've googled it and it seems like booting off a USB optical drive is supported, so I'm unsure why it's not working for me...

MacBook :: Not Booting From External Hard Drive

Sep 27, 2009

I have a Black Macbook with 2GB ram, 250GB HDD, 2.4GHz Processor and have been trying to boot off of my 320GB firewire External HDD but it has so far been unsuccessful. I have the external formatted as GUID Partition Table, and have the four system disk folders on the drive (Applications, Library, System, Users) which I copied from a time machine backup. I have tried booting the MB while holding down the option key and the external HDD appears as a drive available for booting on. But when I select the external HDD a cross with a circle around it appears and it boots off the internal HDD instead of the external HDD.

MacBook Pro :: Best FireWire Hard Drive For Booting OS Off?

Feb 22, 2010

I have a powerbook which I've been told can only boot it's OS through firewire only. My question is can any of you recommend an external firewire hard drive? I'm after a 1TB of storage as anything smaller isn't ideal. I don't want to spend bucket-loads, but I know that the option of firewire costs more, so I'm prepared for that. I've been told not to buy any Western Digital drives as they don't like to be used as a booting drive (for older macs I think anyway). I also wanted to know, could I used the hard drive to boot my OS from and also use to to save additional files, or is that a disaster waiting to happen?

MacBook Pro :: Not Booting Up With Hard Drive In Optical Bay?

When I boot up I get stuck at the White Apple scrren with the spinning dotted wheel or it boots up to the desktop and my mouse and keyboard freezes. Has anyone else experienced this problem or have a resolution? I tried two separate hard drive caddys and two separate hard drive thinking these might be the problem with no luck.

MacBook Pro :: Kernel Panic Upon Booting To Hard Drive Or CD

Nov 2, 2010

Yesterday I purchased a INtel X25-V SATA SSD and installed it in my 13 inch MacBook Pro. Upon booting to a CD so I could install OS X 10.6 on the new drive, I received a kernel panic. After numerous tries I then put the old hard drive in (now clear of any data) and tried to boot to a CD again. Same problem. Now I seem to be stuck with a computer that will not boot to the CD no matter which hard drive is installed. I am able to use the SSD/HD in target disk mode. I can even install OS X to it from a different computer, but then when I try to boot on the MacBook Pro itself, I receive the kernel panic. The kernel panic seems to occur regularly after the Mac tries to load the CD for a minute or two.

My only problem is that when i start up the computer, it loads for a few minutes, but 100% of the time after about 3-4 minutes i get a notice saying I did not eject the drive safely and all that. After that the internal hard drive is no longer there. I cant see it in my finder, or disk utility. BTW I am booting from my old hard drive externally. What would cause the new internal hard drive to eject itself?

MacBook Pro :: Backup With Partial Internal Drive

Nov 3, 2010

I am planning to change my current HDD drive with new intel SSD, so I need to back up all the files on my current disk. The capacity of my current HDD is 320GB, so I made an equal partition, 160GB-160GB. Since there's just 120GB occupied in my HDD, I assume I can back up it with the alternative partial 160GB, sounds feasible? Another problem, after replacing it with SSD, should I just make the internal HDD external, and plug it to the macbook pro using USB to install all the OS and files?

MacBook Pro :: Cloning / Upgrade - Internal And External Drive

I think it will work, but if it won't, it would be superb if someone more knowledgeable than I could tell me so

Step 1:
Buy 2.5" external Firewire 800 hard drive enclosure
Buy 2.5" SATA drive (probably 500gb WD Black or something)

Step 2:
Whack new drive into new enclosure and fire it up

Step 3:
Clone my existing 250GB internal MBP hard drive to the new one in the enclosure using Carbon Copy Cloner etc

Step 4:
Remove new hard drive from enclosure and use it to replace the internal hard drive in my Mac

Step 5:
All being well stick the old hard drive in the enclosure and use it as an external
