Hardware :: Finding Smart UPS For MacPro 3.33GHz?

Mar 15, 2010

I will be getting a MacPro 3.33GHz soon, and need to find the right Smart UPS system that will allow the MacPro to automatically save and shut down.

I've been searching through the specs on many Smart UPS systems and have found very few that list Mac OSX on the system requirements.

Mac Pro :: Upgrade 2009 Mac Pro 3.33GHz To 2010 6 Core 3.33GHz?

Jul 28, 2010

I read that the new 6 core Mac Pro's use 32nm technology.

I guess this means a different mobo to the one in the 2009 4 core models?

Apple are offering an upgrade from 4 core to 6 core on the new models, so I'm wondering if I could do the same to my 2009 model or would it not be as simple to swap out the mobo as I think?

PowerPC :: HardDrive G5 To MacPro / Crucial Mem To MacPro

Sep 28, 2006

1) Can I take my secondary drive in my Powermac G5 and install it into my forthcoming Mac Pro ? Or is the SATA interface different on the new machines.

2) Ordering extra memory from Crucial to save $, what's the situation with 'fans' and things on the memory. I'm confused, totally. Does the mac pro's require additional heat cooling on the memory, does the memory from crucial come with this, is it easy to install like the powermac or am I going to be left floundering like a fish out of water....

PowerPC :: How To Put HDs On 1.33ghz?

Aug 7, 2006

Does anyone have any experience with putting new hard drives in a 1.33ghz iBook 12" and in a 12" PB 1.5ghz -- that both have the sensor motion thing on the hard drives?

Is this motion sensor a physical part on the hard drive or something within the connection itself?

I also want to put a superdrive in the iBook 1.33ghz.

If anyone has any tips or advice, would be welcomed... as I believe the iFixit site's photos are for earlier revision machines.

MacBook Pro :: 3GB Ram Vs 4GB Ram On 2.33GHZ?

Oct 23, 2009

I have been searching a lot and doing some reading to find out what to do to get better system performance. I bought my MacBook pro mid 2007 the configuration are 2.33GHZ, 2GB Ram. My system can only go up to 3GB Ram and has two slots to fill the ram. Currently, I have 1GB in each of them. Now the questions is

1. Should I put 1GB in one and 2GB in the other to make it 3GB total?

2. Should I put 2GB in each to make it 4GB total?

I found out that matching pairs are good and if I put 4GB it will only use 3.2GB and the rest will be just unusable. If I put 3GB then it will not match but still gives you performance.

I have read goods and bads for both and now highly confused what to do? I want to request my Mac users to please give me some suggestions, hints and better reasons to apply.

I bought my system for $2700.00 when it first came out. Now do not think it is smart to sell it for $1200.00 (If I am lucky) and spend extra $600.00 to get 2.8GHz.

I can afford both rams as they are really cheap now. I use my mac for surfing, movies both online and offline, some time PS and Aperture, I do tends to have about 10 different apps open at the same time, for example ( Skype, Safari, PS, MSN, Yahoo, Ichat, ITunes, etc). I am also thinking about playing some games on my Mac such as Call of Duty, Fall out 3 and stuff.

PowerPC :: 1.33GHz IBook Unbearably Slow?

Dec 23, 2007

My main lappy is a last revision 1.33GHz 12" iBook G4 with GB of RAM. In the past month or so, it has gotten slower and slower. Everything lags, and today when I entered an address into Camino, it took it a full 90 seconds to realize I had pressed enter, and get rid of the drop-down autocomplete.

I recently upgraded to Leopard. I thought this would help, but apparently not. Sadly. I just purchased a T41 ThoughtlessPad because i needed a FUNCTIONAL laptop.

Also I can max out them four RAM slots and get a 5870 with the extra cash.

Mac Pro :: MacPro Raid And Bootcamp?

Feb 29, 2008

I'm putting together a workstation that primarily is going to be used for Windows development and I wanted to have as fast a disk subsystem as possible.

It doesn't seem to be BootCamp drivers available for the card that Apple sells, so I found this card instead:

[URL]
It has EFI firmware and is able to boot MacOSX from raid arrays. The only question is if it is able to boot stuff through Bios emulation.

Vista x64 is the primary target here, and SP1 actually has EFI booting support, so it might be possible to use this. However when I tried to install Vista x64 with SP1 integrated on the MacBook Air I wasn't even able to boot installer DVD because of EFI incompatibilities.

Anyone have any experiences with booting BootCamp on a MacPro with a raid card?

I could probably get 700-800 dollars for the current computer so, would dropping 2000 on a new tower give me a huge boost in performance? OS X :: Upgrading Macpro Internal HD To SSD?

Jun 25, 2009

I'd like to change my system drive on my Mac Pro to the Intel X25-m 160 gig I just purchased. When I previously upgraded my laptop to SSD, I used carbon copy cloner to clone the internal drive onto the SSD.Unfortunately, I had a couple of authorization issues, one of which being for CS3. Somehow cloning the internal drive onto the SSD and replacing the internal drive with the SSD tripped up the authorizations.

On my Mac Pro I have a few more programs I'm worried about having to reauthorize if the same thing happens. All programs are legal installs, so I could reauthorize, but it is a headache. Especially since some of the companies only allow a certain number of installations and having changed laptops and desktops since purchasing the apps means that some of these programs will require the lengthy process of emailing and explaining the situation to the manufacturer.Given that I'm just trying to change the startup drive, how can I avoid these issues?

Have decided to put it in regular bay 4 and use bootcamp. Do I need to install any special drivers to maximize the ability of Windows to access this drive?

OS X :: MacPro Network Name Keeps Getting Renamed?

Apr 27, 2010

First My Home Network:

Airport Extreme N, current model, separate discrete g and n networks. G network is set up in WDS mode to extend Airport Express which is connected to a MP via Ethernet. My other Macs are 100% wireless.

The problem:

The network name of my MP is randomly changed. The original name was simply "MacPro." Then it started to change it's name to MacPro (1), MacPro (2), etc., thinking there was already a computer with the same name in use when it was the same computer all along.

The message I get looks like this:

I only have this problem on my MP, which again, is connected to an Airport Express via Ethernet. This problem doesn't exist on my machines that have an Airport card installed.

Anyone know what is causing this, and more importantly, how to stop it?
