I'm running Leopard on my iBook G4, 1.33GHz. I am using it with an external keyboard, mouse, and monitor, but the "clamshell mode" is not supported on iBook G4s. I've tried Sleepless and InsomniaX, but they both don't work.

My main lappy is a last revision 1.33GHz 12" iBook G4 with GB of RAM. In the past month or so, it has gotten slower and slower. Everything lags, and today when I entered an address into Camino, it took it a full 90 seconds to realize I had pressed enter, and get rid of the drop-down autocomplete.
I recently upgraded to Leopard. I thought this would help, but apparently not. Sadly. I just purchased a T41 ThoughtlessPad because i needed a FUNCTIONAL laptop.
Is there any way to get my ibook to run in lid closed mode because i have an external display set up and a mouse and a keyboard and i would like to just close it and keep it under the monitor. im willing to do any hacks to get this done.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am working on a hardware hack with an iBook G4 800MHz where I can only power the iBook with the AC Adapter--NOT using the battery. When the compy is turned off and turned back on, I am getting this huge error message on the display that my time and date are wrong.
I gather there is no battery on the MB that sustains the internal clock--the compy uses the powerbook battery to keep the clock up to date?
Is there any way to set the system software to bypass or ignore the time and date? This computer is not connected to the internet, and time and date are irrelevant to my application.
Last night I put my iBook to sleep and now it won't seem to wake up. The little snoring light thing is maybe half-lit, but it doesn't snore like normal--just one solid, half-way lit light. I've tried force shuttng down (holding down the power button) and force restarting (command-control-power), and neither work. I've also tried the obvious--closing lid (it was open), unplugging it (the battery still has life though).
Anything else I can do?
I can put my iBook G4 to sleep manually, but it will not sleep on its own. Why is that? I'm running 10.4.8 and I have the power settings in preferences set for "Better Energy Savings".
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy coworker is having some problems with his iBook G4 and I (being the mac guy I am) volunteered to help set it straight. I have encountered a bit of a snag that seems quite strange to me. The problem is that when the computer boots and gets to the login screen, it goes into a deep sleep and can only be revived by removing the battery. It stays at the login screen for about 3 seconds before this happens. Unfortunately, I didn't know about this in advance so I don't have my usual supplies (OSX CD or a Firewire cable to go into target disk mode so I can poke around from my MBP). If the sleep problem were not strange enough, I cant boot into single user mode! It just keeps a black screen up. Verbose startup does the same thing. Has anybody here come across a problem like this before?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an ibook G4 14" 1.42ghz.I have it plugged into a power adapter almost always. It has been plugged in in both instances/I recently put it to sleep and when I return anywhere from 15 minutes to a couple hours it is shut down. I have a heck of a time getting it to power on. It took me several times, anywhere from 3-6 times to get it to turn on.
When I turn it on it goes through the usual loading procedures and after loading a window pops up saying the date and time are wrong and could cause applications to act erratically. The date ends up being 1969 and sometimes the time is wrong.
I have fixed the date and it still happens.
I don't know if this has affected or led to this but my battery has been shot for a couple months now and occasionally (probably 1-2 times a day) the power adapter (a cheap copy of apple's) would become unplugged from the laptop prompting the message stating you are on reserve battery and that the computer will go to sleep soon.
Does anyone know what is causing this? How much would it cost to fix it?
Recently i've added a Panasonic CRT to my setup running dual screen on my iBook G4 (latest rev.) Just wondering if it's safe to run lid closed mode on it. I know that it's capable (even though it's not supposed to be.) Would i run into severe problems if I did this as far as screen damage? I'm not sure if the heat comes through the keyboard and would create pixel problems.

I guess this means a different mobo to the one in the 2009 4 core models?
Apple are offering an upgrade from 4 core to 6 core on the new models, so I'm wondering if I could do the same to my 2009 model or would it not be as simple to swap out the mobo as I think?
When I sleep my iBook (indigo clamshell), it does not dim to a black screen like it is supposed to...Instead I het a multicolor static looking screen...the hard drive does appear to power down and the green light slowly blinks as usual in sleep.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI was wondering how/where the sensor is/works to tell the computer to go to sleep when the lid is closed. I am doing some mods (discussed in the marketplace forum) and would like to try to keep that sensor intact if at all possible, but i realized I have no idea where it is located or how it senses that the lid is closed on these.
I searched the forum a bit and found nothing, and can't find anything in google other then sleeping problems... unless I just am horrible at googlin.
I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me or if anyone is having the same problem as me... Since 16th Feb I have not been able to charge my ibook in sleep mode. Every time you put the ibook into sleep mode while the power cable is connected the ibook goes to sleep for a second or so and then wakes up again... If the screen is shut it just continuously keeps repeating the process...
I would be very grateful if anyone could advice me on what to do or recommend any diagnostic checks i should do to rectify the problem...
Does anyone have any experience with putting new hard drives in a 1.33ghz iBook 12" and in a 12" PB 1.5ghz -- that both have the sensor motion thing on the hard drives?
Is this motion sensor a physical part on the hard drive or something within the connection itself?
I also want to put a superdrive in the iBook 1.33ghz.
If anyone has any tips or advice, would be welcomed... as I believe the iFixit site's photos are for earlier revision machines.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've previously owned a 12" iBook G4 1.07GHz, and had a resolution of 1024 X 768 on my 17" DELL P780 display. Now I have a 1.33GHz G4 iBook. Same size. Wouldn't go past 800 X 600, I tried restarting, Display Preferences, EVERYTHING.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIn tiger you could easily disable safe sleep and remove the sleep image file but in Leopard this seems to have changed. Yes you can disable safe sleep & remove sleep image files but only temporarily. As soon as you restart or change energy settings back to default, leopard automatically reverts the safe sleep settings to default and starts creating an image file again
Is there no way to permanently disable/remove these?
Can anyone confirm the real-life differences in speed between a PC2700 1GB chip and a PC2100 IGB chip in a PowerBook G4 1.33Ghz which normally takes the PC2700? I know the slower chip is compatible so I'm just wondering about the difference in performance. I can get it at half the price of the normal, slightly faster chip.

When I go to bed, I like to just put my macbook pro to sleep by closing the lid. But almost 100% of the time it wakes itself. It gets really hot when this happens so I've been turning it off most of the time instead, but I'd really like to get this resolved. I have an external monitor plugged into it so I know its awake as the screen shifts over to the external monitor. When no monitor is plugged into it, I do occasionally hear the hard drive spin up. I have tried unplugging everything except for the power cable to see if that might help, but the result is the same. I have a 1st generation 15" Macbook Pro running OS X 10.5.3.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI picked up a new 15" i5 MBP last week. 2 days later, I got 2 kernel panics and some various beeps at boot up. Took it back to the store and got a replacement yesterday.
When I close the lid, the screen shuts off and it goes to sleep for maybe a few seconds, then suddenly, the screen will come back on (apple logo on the back will illuminate again). When i open the screen just a crack, i can see it is indeed not asleep and the desktop is displayed on the screen.
I do NOT want my Powerbook G4 AL 15 to go to sleep when I close the display lid. I want to manually put it to sleep when I want to and have it run with the lid closed when I want it to. What should I type in the terminal?

I have reset the SMC and disabled the "awake with lid opening" function in terminal to no avail. Hoping to find any insight. So this is the typical path leading up to the symptom.Â
End of the day. Shut down all of my programs save for Finder. Eject all drives. Unplug the computer and put it to sleep. (The symptom occurs whether I put the system to sleep through the OS or simply close the lid.)Â
I put the computer in my briefcase and drive home. Occasionally, I'll open up my briefcase to find the computer is incredibly hot and running while closed and enclosed in said briefcase. It's been a minor annoyance up to this point, but yesterday I found it literally hot to the touch and with a completely discharged battery when I went to grab it yesterday. Â

I have just sent my MacBook Pro for servicing because my hard disk was corrupted by an anti-virus file (the irony...). I just got it back today and I found out that when I closed the lid, it just would not sleep. I did not have this problem previously. I came to the community to see of there was a solution, I did find a solution, by resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) but the problem still occurs. Any solutions? I'm unsure wether I did do the steps wrongly. I carefully followed all the steps except for one which I quote "If your Mac appears to be running normally but isn't responding, force the computer to shut down by pressing the and holding the power button for 10 seconds." Under (Before Resetting the SMC).Â

My macbook pro (early 2011) won't go to sleep when I close the lid ever since I upgraded to Lion (10.7.4) from Snow Leopard (10.6.8). The computer will still sleep when I click on "sleep" from the Apple menu. The computer just won't automatically sleep when I close the lid.
I tried a number of things:
1. enabling/disabling internet sharing (don't have it enabled in the first place)
2. uninstalling Little Snitch
3. Delete printer queues. Also tired deleting all printers & resetting printing system.
4. SMC reset
5. Delete: Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > System Configuration.
Nothing works.

The display on my MacBook Pro turn on even though the lid is closed.
1.Sometimes The apple logo lights up and then turns of on itself when the lid is closed.
2. Various times have i closed the lid of my MacBook Pro and then re open it and the screen is still on and it has not entered the Login screen.
3. If i click the Sleep option on the apple menu it goes to sleep, so i close the lid but it eventually wakes up out of the blue.
