I was wondering what were my options (preferably under $200) for an external Blu-ray Drive that can work with OSX (i.e, it can be read by a program such as MakeMKV). Also, do any external blu-ray drives work?

Now for the rub:
I've looked a fair bit and can't seem to find any way remotely easy to use the Apple DVD Player app. with my SD & optibayed MBP. VLC works but it isn't nearly as elegant or easy to use. I've scabbed up two loadings of Snow Leopard trying to replace frameworks/DVD files to get this to work. Interesting that the MBA can use DVD Player with the modified SD & all other computers w. an attached optical can use DVD Player too.
Has anyone been able to hack this easily? The only thing I can find is Macbidouille did an Hex edit of the framework/dvd file but there's quite a bit lost in translation. This should be the same problem any ext. DVD player has.
So I have a MacBook Pro, and my Dad has a MacBook Air. I was wandering if I needed Wi-Fi to access the optical drive on my MBP through the MBA using remote disk
Will they find each-other without Wi-Fi?

I have an 8-core 2008 Mac Pro tower. I need to throw a blu-ray burner in it.
The tower only has IDE interface cables for the two optical drive bays.
Will these play nicely together?

I recently sold my XFX 4870 in anticipation of the new cards that will be coming to the MP's soon. I understand that the question will not be answered until the new MP's come out and someone can extract the BIOS. But I wanted to start a thread of which cards (Brand, Model, Rev #) works with our MP's (looks like 2008 and later).

I have a lot of old music I have been collecting over the years and a lot of the data was either not there or for whatever reason is not there. I am looking for a program to do either an audio scan or something to find all my album art work and information that itunes displays. I have used the ITunes find album artwork but some songs done have the album listed. What do I do from here. I am not going through 4k songs to get them all manually.

i switched back to safari bc of the html5 force extension, however i find myself always googling something from the url bar which inturn takes me to page can not be displayed.
its very annoying, does anyone know if there is an extension which makes the address bar also work as a search bar?
I have installed the beta of Google Chrome but is unable to select "Create application shortcut" (not so sure if its the correct words, because my installation is in Swedish)
The option is there to select but is greyed out (disabled).

We have i-Mac 20" with built in i-sight Power PC, one of last ones I think before the intel. We have had a few problems before with it powering down and going to sleep. Used to hoover dust out and that seemed to fix it.
Now it won't start at all. I have tried all the PRAM and various commands to re set various things but none of these work. We had a wireless keyboard and I have just tried a wired one but I do not think either are connecting as the tab key light does not come on, which it does when I tested the wired on on my lap top.
When it died it crashed with a cd in drive. I have removed this and replaced it with the mac install disk to try and run the disk check but the optical drive is not starting at all either.
All that happens on start up is the sleep light comes on, then after a few moments fan starts to whirl. I can't hear the hard drive - have tried to rock hard drive to get it to spin but nothing.
Just wondering whether worth trying to replace optical drive or is this being controlled by hard drive - hence its not working nor hard drive. is there any way to recover data if it is the hard drive that is dead? anything else I can try and replace to fix it? could I use an external optical drive connected via USB to start?
I have tried to firewire but not joy their either!
So I want to know what you have as your boot drive, if you like it or not, if you could change what would you change to. Also, how much space you have used on the boot drive and how much is left.

I have a QNAP TS 209 Pro, but it's dying on me. It goes to 100% CPU. I do like the it overall, but it's pretty expensive.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to use a single external hard drive to use as a backup for my files between my two laptops. One MBP, one Dell. I need some help with how to partition the drives correctly.
I will be moving files over 4GB, so FAT32 is not an option, plus the drive will be at least 500GB, and I know FAT32 sometimes has issues when partitioned that large. So FAT32 is out. What I'm looking to do is have half of the drive formatted to NTFS, and half formatted to HSF+.
Do you have to have an external drive to burn CDs with the MBA?
So far, I've avoided getting the superdrive by using the remote disk option, but I tend to burn CDs and data onto DVDs from time to time. Is there a work around for doing that without the superdrive or are there no other options?

I have an external hard drive, but it seems to be either corrupt or malfunctioning in some other way. When I plug it in it works fine for a while, but soon after I get a "Disk was not properly ejected" error.
If I try to unplug and plug the disk in again, Finder won't recognise it until I've rebooted my computer.
I can't be bothered rebooting all the time, so is there a process I could kill instead that would relaunch itself and start off "fresh"?
I have some information stored on floppy disks which I made when I had a Mac duo back in 1997. I need to transfer the information in them onto my macbook pro. Where can I find an external drive that links up to my macbook pro?

He burns around 5 cd's/DVD's a day, a stack of 100 cd's does not last long with him. He does a lot of movie burning to watch it on his tv and wonders if after a year of tons of burning will the slot loading drive die out. He does not want to buy an external DVD burner as well which is what i use.
