Hardware :: Finding Adapter For Cinema Display To Work With Non-macbooks
Mar 18, 2009
I have a macbook and I want to get a cinema display but I heard that the cinema displays from apple do not work with any other computer.
Does anyone know where I can get an adapter to have the display work with non-macbooks?
Also I posted this question on Apple Forums and they removed it with no answer because it can lead to rumours about new product releases so I am seeing if anyone here has an answer.
I might be purchasing a 30 inch cinema display and currently have a mid-2009 unibody MBP. I know I need the cable to power it, but do I need to drop the 100 dollars for the apple one or are their any alternatives?
what is the difference between the dvi and dvi-d input for a display?
i want to get one of the silver apple 23inch cinema displays for a macbook pro that has the newer mini-display jack. i just want to make sure that i get the correct adapter. apple's store has a mini-display to dvi adapter... would this work? does the cinema display have a dvi or dvi-d connection?
also, with this adapter, do the usb ports on the back of the display function? or are they connected via a usb cable to the mbp?
Anyone have good luck with a gig-e->USB adapter? I'm planning to get a MBA and cinema display, but I need the use of gigabit ethernet. Will it work well if I plug it into the USB hub on the display and will I be able to max out the USB connection?
I have a 2009 mac mini with dual display. One mini display port and one mini dvi port. I would like to buy two of the recently discontinued 24 inch led display. I know I can connect one monitor via the mini display port.......my question is how would I connect the second display?
I am on my new 27" iMac last night when all of a sudden the display froze and pix-elated for a second and then went black and a few seconds turned back on with an error message at the bottom right screen saying my display adapter had stopped . . . . .
I was in Windows 7 64bit Professional at the time. I also noticed that Apple is wanting download a newer version of Boot Camp which I will download tonight!
I went to the ATI website and found a new driver dated 4-2010 and downloaded it. All seems well but was wondering if anyone has had the same issue?
I just wanted to ask how i can get this white macbook to run (if it can this cinema display)
Its the 4.1 White macbook, and the cinema display i had with my G5 which i bought in 2005. THe display has the old connectors (see MM photo Album below)

Is it possible for me to get the macbook to run this? If so, how? (i can head to apple store today to pick up parts! Wife needs the largerr real estate to sort out her portfolio as i have put of buying a MacPro for a few months (just finished travelling for 3 years
So my buddy brought over his first-generation-aluminum 20" cinema display. I have a DisplayPort to VGA connector, and a vga-dvi converter, and I plugged the cinema display into that. Nothing is showing up on the cinema display - it's just black.
I'm having a Left4Dead LAN party this weekend and was thinking of picking up a 24" ACD. I was just curious as to whether it'll still work in windows/bootcamp?
Im using a macbook pro right now but i want to play xbox and ps3 games on an external display... i know that this adapter--> [URL] has worked great with the imac... do u guys think it will work with the 27" ACD? if not... what would be a way to hook up an xbox or ps3 to this new awesome dispaly?
I just bought the 27in iMac to hook up to my Mac Pro till apple refreshes their ACD. I thought I would be able to use the Mini Displayport to DVI adaptor to connect it to my Mac Pro through DVI and it doesn't work. I know you can do it with mini displayport to mini displayport although, both my mini displayports are currently in use by by 24 ACD.
iphone has find my iphone and mobile me, but what about macbooks? are there any similar anti-theft apps(preferably free) that tracks macbook's wifi location and help track down the laptop?
I am actually trying to decide if to get the old 30" cinema display or not.I'm a graphic designer and my fear is that apple will never make a matte display...Here in Italy it's still sold in the apple store. I have the unibody macbook pro, and so I've been reading through reviews now for a week ... my biggest concern is the dual-link dvi adapter... I still see posts (August or September 2010) with people experiencing issues, even with the firmware 1.3!I wanted to ask you people if I should go for it or dig the 27 inch even though it's glossy... I have a few people in the office (also graphic designers) working on iMacs and got used to the glossy.
The title says it all really... Quite a simple problem that I can't find any answer to!
I've hooked up my 30" Apple Cinema Display to the new iMac 27" and the highest resolution I'm getting as an option is 1280x800... The iMac correctly detects the ACD as a Cinema HD display but limits my resolution. Why oh why?!
Hopefully someone can answer this simply enough, any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking to grab a couple used macs and just wondering if I can use the copy of Tiger i have already, the one that came with my Macbook. My question is about compatibility with other macs. I have the original disks that came with my Macbook Intel Core Duo, Mac OS X 10.4.6.) Will these discs possibly work with all intel-based Macbooks? What about with a desktop?2) Will it work on all Intel based systems,
I own 23 and 30" Cinema Displays. I like the 23 because everything is larger and easier to read than in the 30". I mostly work in Logic and love that I see lots of things on the 30" but the 23" is much easier on my eyes.Is there such a thing as a display with 2560x1600 (like the 30" Apple) but that is LARGER than a 30 inch so I can see everything bigger in Logic??? Maybe a 34 or 37"? Did a search but haven't come up with anything other than other 30" displays.
As the title says, I need a new monitor for my old G5 as the old monitor for it went bust. Apple does not make the old displays that came with the unit anymore and the only available monitor is the new LED ones ? but they all come with mini display ports
I have a new MacBook Pro with Miniport connected to a Cinema 30 using the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter. I upgraded from the previous version of the Macbook Pro w/built-in DVI and never had a problem.
From the moment I started using this new miniport adapter with the Cinema 30, I noticed intermittent graphic anomalies. Most of the time, discolored lines will start rapidly popping in and out across the screen - especially noticeable with dark backgrounds. Here are a couple of quick videos that visualize the problem.
