OS X :: Bite Bullet And Buy Wireless Card / Usb Dongle For PC?

I'll soon be moving to a place that has a wireless router, but not anywhere close enough to where my computers will be to have a hardwire connection. So, if my blackbook is connected wirelessly, is there any way to share that connection with a PC that will be near it (used for games)? Something like connecting the ethernet ports on the blackbook and the PC with a length of CAT5 cable? Or will I have to bite the bullet and buy a wireless card/usb dongle for my PC?
I would like to get a USB wireless N dongle for my old PC, easy enough to do I was going to go with a Linksys WUSB600N but then realized I might as well get something that is Mac compatible so I can sometimes use it on my old PowerBook. After doing some research I found out that newer TrendNet dongles and some D-Link dongles are Mac compatible. I don't know about TrendNet because they always seemed a little cheap, I've used D-Link routers before and they're ok but the dongles compatibility with Macs seems to depend on the hardware revision. Are there any other brands who make Mac compatible wireless N USB dongles?
I have a macbook pro 17, I couldn't really wait for what might or might not come out next year, as there was an urgent need for it. I am interested in getting some mobile internet, and was wondering, would you seasoned pro's go for a usb dongle or express card slot option?
I bought my Mac Pro as a refurb from Apple, but it didn't come with the wireless card built in. This didn't bother me because at my old apartment my computer was near the router so I just wired it up by ethernet. I just moved into a new place and my computer isn't within router distance and I don't want to run a bunch of cable. My boss gave me a card to plug into Apple wifi card spot and OSX found the card and showed some airport info, but it didn't find any networks and if I run the Airport Utility it says it can't find an airport card. So I assume it's not compatible. What are my options? Oh yeah, I found this on ebay. Sound reliable? [URL:....]
Which would be better, a USB wireless adapter or installing an actual wireless card? The computer is a PowerMac G5 1.6GHz and I want to add wireless capability to it. Which card is the best and which USB adapter is the best. We'll be using a Linksys router.
I want to make various items appear one at a time in Keynote, but I want it to be bulletpoint, image, bulletpoint, etc. However, it seems that I have to do all the bulletpoints at once and then other things, unless I make a whole bunch of different bulletpoint boxes, which is very annoying. to switch the build order to have items in between bullet points?
I recently upgraded the Magic Bullet Looks plugin to version 2.5.3 to use in Final Cut Pro X 10.1.4. Since upgrading, all previous projects using this plugin now show the missing plugin error. However, I can create new projects and use the plugin on new clips just fine. If I switch off the plugin on existing clips the missing error still shows and the clip wont render.
I ve tried contacting Red Giant the plugin's maufacturer but very difficult to get a response.
I have a new Time Capsule and was wondering if I can put an 'n' wireless card in my 1� year old MacBook? Am I limited to buying an Apple card or are there other options?
I recently switched from windows Microsoft Word to Mac pages. I just wanted to know how, when I press tab to go to a new bullet indent level, I can make it do a certain order (Circular bullet, dash, Another kind of bullet, etc.) without changing the type of bullet through the inspector each time.
New iMac and have installed latest version of Parallels 6 via Switch to Mac edition. Coming from Dell Inspiron Laptop. When booting in, it hangs forever on Welcome Screen. Have been told I need to update Wireless Driver, however, cannot see a wireless card under Device Manager. ( I got to desktop by CNTR-ALT-DELETE) Downloaded the new driver from Dell, but when I run, it says the hardware not found. I can get to Internet from Vista in VM no problem. But I am trying to fix the hanging on Welcome Screen issue by updating the driver for the wireless card.
I have a 450mhz powermac g4 that I am using for a simple file server in my house. I was wondering if there are any pci cards that have mac drivers, that would work. In order to steam movies and stuff, the card probably has to support 802.11g.
I have a Mac Pro and need to get on a wireless network. Of course I don't have the airport card because I didn't want to wait for the BTO and never thought I'd need wireless for the desktop. Anyone know what will work aside from airport or where to get airport (apple store doesn't list anything for the mac pro).
I have a power mac G4. My tech man says I have a generic wireless card installed. I have tried to use internet connect but it does not see it. Also when a do a summary of the network the card is not detected. Finally, no Airport option ever comes up to connect to. It is not available. Anything I can do or do I need to find a mac pro in my area?
I have a TP Link USB wireless card with the Realtek RT73 chipset, OS X 10.5 Intel. I plug it in, and it is not recognised by the system. Previously, it would come up with a dialog box when I plugged it in asking if I wanted to configure it. Now, it isn't detected at all. ifconfig doesn't detect it. This started happening after I installed the drivers for the card. The drivers never worked, so I removed them. Every single driver file and kerel extension has been removed, but it is no longer detected. A reboot didn't fix it, and the wireless card itself is fine.
I have a bit of a dilemma, you see I have BlackBerry service on my phone but im planning to buy a usb 3g modem and disconnect my phone's internet service. I would like to know if it's possible to connect the usb 3g modem to my MacBook and use my Airport card to create a wireless router so other devices can connect to the web such as my BlackBerry. Is this possible?
I bought this refurbished computer, which has Mac OS X 10.5, Leopard PowerPC G4,1.42 GHz, Single Core,512 MB, and 80 GB hard drive. I'm told it can probably use an Airport Express card #A1026. Is this correct? And, I was also told I would have to plug in the antenna. Anything else to get? (I already have a Netgear Router #WGR614)
I've been given a PowerBook G3. I'm not sure which version it is or anything. But its a PowerBook G3 because it says on the screen. How do I find out exactly what machine I've been given and what wireless card to have a look for. I wouldn't mind spending a couple of quid on ebay for an old second hand airport card just for fun really. Its got os9 on atm. I've got an old osx10.1 disk somewhere I might try and update it a little.
I would like to install an internal airport card in my Mac pro (2008) as I didn't order the wireless BTO option and the USB adapter I tried instead didn't satisfy me. When I asked for the card at an apple reseller they said to me that this upgrade would cost a lot of money because they haven't only to order the card but they have to install the antennas as well. I went home and checked the interiors of my machine and saw three antenna cables (labeled with 1,2,3) which seem ready to be connected to an airport card. So I don't know if I have to believe this antenna thing. Are the antennas already preinstalled in every Mac Pro or do I really have to bring the whole computer to the store?
I have a G3 BW, 400mhz, 1gb ram. I would like to add wireless since it's away from a wired connection. Am I limited to the Mac-compatible pci cards? I have panther OS on it and can upgrade to tiger but hear that it runs best in panther so I'll wait. I've seen some drivers that you can buy which will make a select number of non-mac wireless pci cards work, but not really sure how well these function - Thoughts? Experience?. Plus I don't want to sink a ton of money in it, it's running very well now, actually quite well. I hope to spend less than $30 for a used or new wireless b-g pci card if possible. Does anyone have any budget cards that they are using sucessfully? B, G wireless specs are fine, I don't have N.
Well I rushed off and bought the Mac Pro as soon as it was announced at the local Mac store to where I was - and also bought the internal wireless card. They didn't fit it at the store, but as I was shipping it anyhow to the UK, I didn't care much. When home, I installed the card - just two screws, and thought everything was fine - Leopard found it and the function is available - but I'm getting no signal from it. It looks very much like I have no antenna attached, though there was no antenna needed when installing (I assumed the antenna worked through the two screws holding the card in place). Anyone got any ideas what the problem is (apart from dragging it to a Apple store).
i have to get a wireless Wifi card or wireless USB stick for my 2.5 Quad G5 Tower. What are the best options for me? Should i get a USB wireless stick from OWC or should i get an internal Wifi Card? Can i use the latest PCI Express Extreme WiFi card on an old G5 Tower?
My parents are taking a much needed vacation. I suggested to my mom she take the laptop i bought them a few years ago (a rarely used 17" PowerBook). And of course they will need a mobile internet card. But its not like they are jet-setters or use that laptop outside of the house very often, if ever. Their mobile phone carrier is Sprint. But it looks like all their internet card options are for a 2 year contract. I'm looking for something for either a very short or no contract. I even checked through AT&T, which is what i have, but everything seems like a 2 year contract. They get a vacation once every two years . Ideally, i was hoping for a one month data cost and either "renting" (??) an internet card, or buying one if they had to.
My ISP went belly up 2 days ago and once I hardwired my Macbook pro into my modem I was off and running again. However, I have been having trouble connecting to the Internet for the last couple of days wirelessly. I have shut everything down and rebooted, several times, but as soon as I turn on my wireless I loose my connection to the Internet. I have a technician coming to check my Optus modem tomorrow. To complicate the matter, when I arrived at work today the same thing happened with my computer and the connection to the Internet. My airport utility says I am not connected to the Internet where as every other computer at work is.
Now with an Ethernet cable connected I am able to connect to the Internet.From this I deduce there may be something wrong the wireless card in my own Macbook pro. How do I check this out and what steps can I take to remedy the situation?
I've recently bought a mac mini (newest revision) and I noticed that it's wireless card is a lot better at retaining high speeds (especially at 5ghz spectrum). Is there a pci-e wireless card that I could pop into the MP that's better?
