I'm currently in the market for some computer speakers for my aluminum macbook.Basically looking for the best pair of 2.1 speakers for under $200.I been eyeing up the Harmon Kardon Soundsticks II and Logitech Z-2300.One thing that kinda amazes me is that there have really been no updates to either of these sets of computer speakers.I really like the look of the soundsticks.What do you guys recommend?

However, I was wondering if I could replace the existing satellite speakers with bookshelf speakers (like Klipsch RB-10 s). I'm hoping this will work because I want to increase the audio output of my system without spending money on an amplifier.

I do have some speakers but I never use them as I have to plug them in and make sure that the Macbook and the speakers are near a power socket. Then of course the cables will be in a tangle, so they just don't get used.
Are there any speakers that I can get that can connect to my MacBook wirelessly? What I was thinking of would be small speakers that could sit on the kitchen counter connected to the power but not connected to my MacBook. In other words I could just use them without connecting any cables. They don't have to be great quality they would mainly be used for podcasts and audio books.
I'm after some really nice speakers for my nice new Mac Pro and don't know what to get... Seen the Eclipse TD307PA II Speaker and Amplifier on the Apple site and they look great, price is a bit expensive but the wife has said "Yes!" ;O) I want some decent sound to either listen to music, possibly playback something I've created and watch a movie or two. I wouldn't call myself an sound enthusiast or anything, just want some decent quality.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI currently use the Logitech Z-5500 Digital 5.1 Speaker System in my home office, which by all accounts is a pretty high-end system (maybe not for a true audiophile, but for an average joe like me they're great). I am trying to figure out what the best way would be to share a single input on this speaker system between two computers (a Mac Pro and an iMac).
I am currently using a basic headphone splitter with two standard 3.5mm male-to-male stereo cables to perform the task, and for the most part it works just fine with one minor issue that is likely to prevent me from keeping things setup like this. There is a subtle, yet clearly audible humming noise coming out of the speakers.
tried to search for the answer, but no luck. I just hooked up a new airport express and am using AirTunes but was wondering how it sends the info? I guess my question is, will the quality be the same as if my computer is hooked straight into the cord?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have iTunes 10.6.1 (7) an Airport Extream Version 6.0 Airport Utility (600.92) That I use with two airport express stations, an Apple TV 2nd Generation with latest software up date. Also have Ipad 3rd Generation and two I phone 4's. Issue: After installing the latest Airport Utility software update I'm unable to connect to my remote speakers in iTunes. The speakers are visible in the pop up menu but iTunes times out when trying to connect. If I use remote to select Apple TV and then via Apple TV select my Computers Library I'm able to play music on the Apple TV / Home Speakers... but still not the Airport Express Stations.
When using remote on the iPhone or iPad the speakers are visible as well but I'm unable to select them... iTunes times out. I can steam music from that is on my iPhone or iPad to each individual speaker, but multiple speaker control is not available and the music from my library is not available. I believe the problem is in the Airplay feature of iTunes and I believe the problems arise when you install the latest version of Airport Utility. You can play on remote speakers, only one at a time, and only if you have the music on a stand alone device (iPhone or iPad)... in summary, bypass iTunes and you can be successful... marginally successful.
Just set up a new Mac Pro (8-core) and plugged in my old M-Audio powered speakers (about 10yrs old but still going strong!). I use a mini-jack splitter cable that outputs stereo RCA to the speakers, plugged into the speaker port on the nMP. There is a constant, low hum coming out of one of the speakers; it sounds a little like CPU noise and it is NOT affected by volume settings from the Mac or the speaker knob. It's the right-side speaker which is unpowered, connected to the left unit via speaker wire (the left unit has the power switch and audio inputs and is not affected.)
I've tried moving the speaker wire up and away from power cables (two Dell monitors directly next to the speakers) but that doesn't work; it doesn't sound quite like a DC hum anyway though. The speakers aren't heavily shielded (they usually pick up interference from an iPhone placed too close) so maybe it's always going to be an issue. I used to have them plugged into a 2006 Mac Pro via an analog mixer which I've removed from the chain.
One thing I love about the iPod Hi-Fi is that it has an optical audio input. It sounds incredible with the optical audio from a Mac, Apple TV, or sat TV receiver. I would love to have that for my Mac's connected speakers because Macs of course have digital optical out. However, are there any speakers out there, intended for computer use (size and whatnot) that have an digital optical input?

Started archiving all my old photos and creating dvds. started off using iphoto which is great for compiling a quick slideshow to a couple of music tracks. i then imported these to idvd and created my first dvd project which i was pretty pleased with for a first attempt. The only thing i found annoying was that i could not link all the slideshows together in idvd so that they played one after another, instead you had to come back to the menu and start the next one...so i thought i would import these slideshow movies into imovie and create a complete movie with chapters, titles etc. but when i did this i noticed that the quality of the slideshow in imovie was very noticeably worse.
being new to mac i wasnt sure what was up so i thought about importing the photos directly into imovie and working with them there. but once again the quality was really poor compared to the iphoto and idvd slideshows. after this i though maybe its just a preview problem and all will be well when i burn them to dvd and watch them on tv...so i burnt a dvd with one slideshow created in iphoto and imported into idvd and also put on a movie of the same slide show that id imported into imovie and back.
anyway long story short quality still better in slide show created in iphoto.
is there any way to export the movie as high as my project quality everytime i export the quality goes down.

Now all my still clips are blurred badly. Is there an option to set a High Quality Playback Option. Or can I download 10.1.3, the level where that worked ?

Situation: no sound out from speakers in admin and user account and newly created account. Headphones work, startup chimes work on speakers.
Go to Sound in Preferences and only shows Digital Out for output. Should show Internal Speakers. Ran Diskwarrior and Applejack and zapped pram. Took mac apart and confirmed speakers wired correctly which is verified by the start up chimes being audible on the internal speakers. tested all accounts and created new account all with the same results. Did search of Google and MacRumor. Found one unaswered post indicating same problem. Had same problem with another macbook pro, ran same steps, take apart, confirm wiring setup, Diskwarriored, applejacked and zapped pram and it fixed the problem. I'm not sure what else to try. Did check Audio Midi Setup util and it also did not see the internal speakers.
the external speakers (and the earphones) I use for my i-mac suddenly stopped playing sound from my imac. They do work though when I plug them to the i-pod. My imac speakers work perfectly. Any ideas what's happening?

Are there any known issues (and if so, fixes) with the Mac Pro audio output? I have iTunes 7.6.2 on a (late '07) Mac Pro (OS X 10.4.10) with JBL Creature II speakers. Nothing too high-end, but enough to expect consistent sound reproduction in a small office space.

Is the sound card in the MP good enough? I am not a musician, I just want good fidelity for music, and stereo is all I want. I have a Creative (guess it's the SBLive) today in my PC.
What type of output connectors does the MP have? I saw posts mentioning optical, but I have 2.1 Altec Lansing baffles and I'd like to continue using them. They do NOT have optical input. Just the normal mini-stereo adapter.
I also suppose there is some kind of microphone input somewhere, I need it for skype VOiP (hope it works well on OS X).
I just went to a Apple store and tried a HD episode of CSI Miami on both a 1.6 HDD and 1.8 SSD.
After a while I realized the graphics was more blocky on 1.6 than the 1.8. No matter what I checked and stopped I could not change it. No other program was running, I let ot rest etc but still it had more choippy graphics.
And yes, I made sure it was rev B not rev A...
Btw, they both had 'the lines'.
If graphics is determined by the graphic card and they both have the same how come the video was not the same quality? Is it really the .26 GHz that made the difference???

How do i change print quality on my imac?i am using word and when i want to print, the presets are: standard, last used settings or draft. I have an HP and when i used windows, i cld pick the quality of the print and set paper--ie photo, etc.
I tried going to Apple preferences and to the printer, but did not find anything.
How can I get the best quality video? In the past in different programs I have made the movie into an .avi and then imported that file into a DVD program is this the best thing to do? The quality settings on iMovie and iDVD are a little confusing. Also, is there a way that you can fit the finished DVD to disk, im sure I have seen this in the past, this would in some cases achieve the best it can do depending on the disc size. On my finished product, the menus (made in iDVD) are a little jumpy, would burning the disc at a lower speed make it easier for DVD players to handle the DVD. Also, while we are on the menu.... I set music to it, but it would loop acording do the looping on the menus, is there a way to make the audio play through even though the menu/images are looping? I have also mixed video and images in the movie, the photos don't really look great, I made a Ken Burns type slide show which is separate to the movie and that looks not bad, but the actual images that are within the movie pan quite badly and aren't as sharp as I would have hoped. Is there something I need to do differently on this? Just thought also, when importing on iMovie 09 is the quality not so good, I have heard that the best is iMovie 06. Is there any truth in this?
