Hardware :: Leopard Network Printing Via AirPort With LaserWriter 8500?

Mar 9, 2008

I have just setup a Time Capsule to host a local wireless network to replace an older wireless/wired mixture.

The network works a treat, and our four office computers all pick it up without issue. I have plugged a USB Epson Inkjet printer into the TC's USB port, and all the networked computers can print to it without issue.

However, we also have a trusty LaserWriter 8500 that we use. I plugged this into the first ethernet (LAN) port on the TC , and expected just to be able to add it in the Print & Fax Preference pane. Sadly though, this is not the case. The printer cannot be found in the Default Browser, or the AppleTalk tab (AppleTalk has been turned on for AirPort).

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: 2006 IMac Won't Stay Connected Via Airport To Wireless Network

Apr 23, 2012

I recently moved and am connecting my iMac (2006 Intel) via the internal Airport card to a high-speed cable network here at home.

For some reason, my connection started off fine but after a few hours (sometime minutes) of browsing the web, the connection will slow to a crawl or just stop completly.

I've tried changing the DNS settings, turning Airport off/on, re-booting the wireless router (it's a Netgear) all to no avail.

The connection will seem to be okay and then...back to the molasses slow or no connection at all. At my previous residence, I was connecting the same way without any issues.

As an aside, there are 2 iPads, 2 iPhones and a MacBook Air all connecting to the same network without any issues whatsoever.

There's a printer connected to my PC and I would like to know if it was possible to acces my PC through the internet and print files on it from my Macbook.

Hardware :: Airport Extreme Not Forwarding Airdisk To Connected Airport Express Network?

Apr 25, 2010

I have an Airport Extreme, with two USB hard drives connected to it. The Airport Extreme shares these disks to my wireless network via Airport Disks.

Upstairs I have an Airport Express, that wirelessly connects to my Airport Extreme downstairs, and extends the wireless network so I get a good wireless reception upstairs.

My problem is, that it does not seem like me Airport Express does a good job of forwarding my 2 USB Airport Disks to the extended wireless network upstairs.

For example, when I use the AirVideo iPhone app to stream video from my USB Airport Disks I get a server connection error when I go upstairs and the iPad/iPhone switches to the Airport Express networks. I cannot reconnect as long as it is on the Airport Express network. If I turn the airport Express off, and thus switch to the poor wireless reception from the Airport Extreme, I can connect to the USB Airport disks again.

The Airport Express is connected to the Airport Extreme in bridged mode.

Hardware :: Using Network Printing With IMac

Sep 13, 2008

I have an iMac 2.4 GHz with 2 GB RAM. My printer is a Canon PIXMA iP5200, which is connected via USB cable to a Maxtor Shared Storage Plus external hard drive. The hard drive is on my home wireless network.

This setup has been working fine for two years with my Windows computers; however whenever I try to print from the iMac I get an error message saying "Network host '192.168.1.66' is busy; will retry in 5 seconds. That's followed by another message saying 10 seconds, and so on up to 30 seconds. Needless to say I never do get a successful print.

The computer can see the printer and says it is "idle" and "ready." There are no other jobs waiting in the queue. The printer was setup with Internet Printing Protocol. The driver is correct and the firmware for the Maxtor drive is up to date.

I have printer sharing turned on through my Windows computer since the printer is connected directly through my windows computer. My other Windows computer that I have at the house can print through the network, but I'm having problems doing so with my iMac. I have the right driver selected through system preferences/print & fax, but it just won't print.

OS X :: Printing To Windows XP Network Printer Using Mac

Jul 15, 2010

Being the only Mac user in my house -however streamlined it is-, does hold a few problems. I have set up my iMac, and have happily joined my Windows home network, file sharing does work easily and neatly but as I found out the other day, printing from a Mac that is connected to a Windows based network can be very difficult. So for a long time now, I have been trying to set up my iMac (connected via WiFi) so that it prints over my home network. The printer; an EPSON TX100 is connected to the USB port in a Windows XP desktop and I have set up Printer sharing. The desktop is connected to my D-Link G604T.

I have added the printer through System Pref: Print & Fax:+:Windows tab: 'network':'computer':'printer' and have tried using both the Generic Postscript driver and the specified printer driver.

When I go ahead and print, the printer icon appears in the dock and then quickly disappears without a printout. I have replaced the ink and paper but still no luck. I have tried the methods suggested on some other threads, but none have succeeded. I would be happy to provide any extra information and try anything. Networked printing works with all Windows computers in the house including a NEC laptop, so why wont it work with a Mac?

OS X :: Slow Network - Airport Express To Extend The Network

Apr 21, 2010

I have a slow network issue. I'll try to make it as simple as possible.

1 MacBook Pro
1 Airport Extreme
1 Airport Express to Extend the Network

The network to my living room was slow, so I added the Express to extend the network. When connected through the Express, with a Time Machine backup, I'm getting about 500K/sec transfer speeds. When I move the laptop away from the Express and close to the Extreme, the network works much faster, about 5MB/sec. I don't understand why the network is so much slower when using the Airport Express as a network extender. Is the speed difference normally that much? If it's not supposed to be, is there anything I can do?

OS X :: MacBook Printing To Network XP Printer - Hangs On

Nov 3, 2008

I'm trying to connect my leopard macbook to a Canon Pixma MP210 that his hooked up to an XP machine. Sharing is enabled in XP on the printer and I can successfully add the printer to the mac in system preferences. I've downloaded the proper drivers from Canon's website and selected them for the printer. The problem is that when I try to execute a print job, the print queue comes up and hangs on status "printing."

Also, on the XP machine, the print queue recognizes a job is being requested but the status hangs on "spooling." The document never actually prints. Finally after a couple minutes, the print queue in the mac has an error stating: "Error Number : 311 Printer is in use or an error has occurred. If an error has occurred, eliminate the cause of the error."

Windows On Mac :: Printing From Airport Express?

I am having trouble printing from Windows (Bootcamp) to a printer connected USB to an Airport Express. Mac OS works fine - sets up the printer and prints simply. Windows isn't finding it.

Anyone know if I can check whether Bonjour was installed? Is it automatic when doing bootcamp? I've been trying to get it from the apple site, but the link is down:[URL]

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Apple Laserwriter 4/600 Won't Print Using 10.7.4

Jun 17, 2012

Yesterday I bought a new MacBook Pro running 10.7.4 and discovered I cannot print to my Laserwriter 4/600 using Asantetalk connected to ethernet (which is connected via a router to my AirPort Extreme (round, white circa 2005). If I use one of my older MacBooks to share the printer with my new one, then it prints fine, no problem at all. It's direct printing that's the problem. I also did NOT have a problem setting up my MBP (OS 10.5.8) to print from the LW when I got it in 2008. What I've done is: - Go to Sys. Prefs > Print & Scan > + printer in Printers list, select "IP". At that point I have tried ALL of the options, IPP, LPD and HP, which I detail below. With each one I have tried, I have had to manually Select Printer Software. When I select Apple Laserwriter 4/600, I have had to also manually give it a Name in order for me to Add the printer. At that point, here's what happens when I try IPP: - I get the message 'Unable to verify the printer on your network. Unable to connect to " due to an error. Would you like to create the queue?' I select Continue. - It then says it's setting up the printer, and "Make sure your printer's options are accurately shown here so you can take full advantage of them." Memory Configuration: I select 6 MB, then the OK button. - Then it says it's setting up the printer. - I then try to print. - I open up the printer monitor, it acts like it's going to print, but then Pauses. My document stays in the queue, and when I try to Resume Printer, it acts like it's going to print again, but then  get a message something like "The printer's URI is incorrect or no longer exists." The it pauses it again. I try again. Pause. and it will just keep doing this and never print. Keep in mind, after I try each method and it doesn't work, I delete both the print job and the printer from the list. So I delete the printer, try adding a new one with LPD: - It doesn't give me a message that it's unable to verify the printer on my network, which seems good, but then when I try to print, it says it's copying print data, it's connected to the printer, and then it pauses. I keep trying, but it keeps pausing it. When I try the HP, like the IPP it tells me it's unable to verify the printer on my network. I Continue anyway, it acts as if it's setting it up, but nothing happens, so I hit the "Configure" button. I then select my memory configuration. It seems to take, so I try to print. It acts like it's processing the job, but then says the printer is busy. I went to this page:  I hope I have given enough information about my ystem and printer. I have scoured these forums and Google, and cannot find a solution to my problem that works. I am hoping I don't have to print only using a shared printer because that is a bit of a hassle since I don't plan on always having an older MBP running as a server.

Hardware :: Using G Network As Well As Airport Extreme N Network?

Jul 8, 2009

Here is my situation. I am a network newbie. I bought a Airport Extreme (2008 model without dual band & guest networking) and have it setup with my ADSL broadband modem. I bought it so I could use the high speed N to connect to my Apple TV. It replaced a Linksys WRT54G.

My concern is this. We have another laptop in the house which only has Wireless G. It is connected most of the time to our network, so I presume that it will be slowing the speed of my Extreme to G levels.

Can I connect my old Linksys G router somehow to my network to create a seperate Wireless G network to access the internet. The older laptop can be at G speeds and my Extreme network remaining at N speeds ?

Maybe an easier option is to buy a N USB adaptor for my laptop but I don't want to buy something if I can use my current equipment.

MacBook :: Printing To Network Printer - Authentication Track

My Macbook recognizes the IP address of the network printer on the network I'm on here at the church I work at, but I cannot print to it because it requires an authentication track. When I click file>print in an excel sheet or a word document the print screen comes up. In the drop down menu where it says "copies & pages" there should be an option for an authentication track or number, but there is not. It is simply not there. There actually should be a lot more options but there are not. I simply have a few, scheduler, summary, layout, etc. What can I do to get to the point where I can authenticate to print on that printer?
