MacBook :: Apple Firmware Updates Integrated With OS Install?

Sep 6, 2009

I have a late 2008 aluminium macbook, recently "clean" installed snow leopard, everything cool apart from the recurring issue with adobe acrobat pro 9 64bit pdf printer driver, anyway. How do I know whether or not I have the apple firmware updates from this site [URL]. Is there any way of checking or have they just be integrated with the snow leopard install. Also is it still ok the drive makes a noise when you either turn the macbook on and / or when the macbook comes out of sleep. Apple fixed this with a firmware update for the imac and etc, has there been one for the Macbook?

Hardware :: Apple Updates White MacBook With Faster Processor And Memory

May 27, 2009

Apple alongside its 2009 Back-to-School promotion on Wednesday also updated its entry-level white MacBook with a faster Intel processor, memory architecture and more hard disk space.

The update was announced quietly on the company's online store. For the same $999 Apple charged for the previous iteration of the white polycarbonate model, users get a 2.13GHz processor (up from 2.0GHz), a 160GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm (up from 120GB), and 2GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM (up from 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM).The update is the second this year to the Cupertino-based company's entry-level notebook offering, the first of which arrived on January 21st when model was updated with NVIDIA's 9400M graphics architecture.

That update also saw the notebook gain the same 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 1,066MHz front-side bus employed by the mid-range aluminum unibody MacBook, as well as a doubling of its memory to 2GB. The new white MacBook is eligible for Apple's just-announced Back-to-School promo, which offers a $229 online rebate good for a free 8GB iPod touch to qualifying education individuals who purchase a qualifying Mac and the iPod on the same receipt before September 8th.

MacBook Pro :: 2.8ghz Vs I5?

Jul 28, 2010

I was hoping to get some feedback on a decision I am currently facing.

I'm selling my mac pro early 08 and am planning on buying a 17" mbp in it's place.

I have been offered a trade of a 17" 2.8c2d with 8gigs of ram plus $500 ontop.

I was planning on holding out for a current i5 model but not sure how much difference there is considering the i5 will only have 4gb of ram.

I will be using this machine for audio. Mainly pro tools.

Any ideas or suggestions as to which route to take?

MacBook Air :: Rev A SSD (1.8GHz) Vs HDD (1.6Ghz)?

Dec 2, 2008

I just got a second Macbook Air that is Rev A SSD (instead of Rev B... But at least screen is flawless...) And since I still have HDD Rev A at hand as well, if anyone is interested in asking me to do some kind of benchmark one wants to try, now is the time. (I usually don't do much of these stuff, so tell me exactly how I can do it.)

I wouldn't be holding the HDD in about 5 days, so, I can only do it in those days.
So far I like the app icon only bounce once for most of the app's initial launch.

Jun 16, 2009

i need to replace my 6 yrs old Powerbook G4 and need to decide between the new entry level 2.53ghz advertised at $1578 after rebate at Club Mac or the refurbished 2,8ghz from apple.com at $1699 plus tax and shipping ($1780) total

I usually do lots of photoshop and now I got a high def Canon camcorder and want to get into Final Cut Pro.

Whats my best option? the new one with lower price and less features or the refurbished one with more power and 2 video chips.

MacBook Pro :: Just About To Buy 15" 2.8GHz?

I am just about to hit Submit on an order for the 15" 2.8GHz MBP and am getting slightly chilled (not quite cold) feet! Thoughts going through my head of...Is now a good time to buy this? Should I get a lower spec model to save a few bucks? Will I be happy with the resolution?

Anyway just need some encouragment from anyone who has had these thought too before buying an expensive toy (I say "toy" because I have an iMac that works just fine but think that a little mobility cannot be a bad thing).

MacBook Pro :: Thinking Of The 2.66 Or 2.8GHz MBP?

Sep 29, 2009

I?m planning on purchasing a 15 inch MacBook Pro, my wife is a teacher so I?ll be purchasing it through the edu site. I was planning on getting the middle 2.66GHz model and upgrading to the 320GB 7200 rpm hard drive. But I see that I can get the 2.8GHz model with the 512 Vram and the same 320GB 7200 rpm hard drive for $160 more. I know for my needs I really don?t need the 2.8GHz, the 2.66GHz model will be fine for me. I was just wondering if it makes sense to spend the extra $160 for the possible extra resale value when I sell it, probably 3 years down the road. Does thinking in those terms make any sense?

MacBook Pro :: Deciding Whether To Get 2.8Ghz Or I7?

Jul 31, 2010

i am deciding whether to get 2.8Ghz or I7. The 2.8Ghz is now on sale, and it is about 550 cheaper and it will be purchased by the dept for me. The I7 is a bit harder since is past 2k limit. So my question is, between 2.8Hz and I7, how much is the difference?

I don't do a lot of things that need that much power but i just the bleeding edge I wonder if anyone can help me the bench mark between 2.8Ghz and I7.

MacBook Pro :: MBP Refurb 2.4ghz I5 Vs. 2.8ghz C2d?

Nov 23, 2010

Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core i5
15.4-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display (1440 x 900 pixel)
4GB (2 x 2GB) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
320GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD?R DL/DVD?RW/CD-RW)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR3 memory
$1529

Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
17-inch high-resolution LED-backlit antiglare widescreen display
4GB memory
500GB hard drive
8x SuperDrive (DVD?R DL/DVD?RW/CD-RW)
ExpressCard/34 slot
Built-in 8-hour battery
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512MB
Illuminated keyboard
$1799

Which would be the better choice? Is the price difference justifiable?

I am a photographer so I do a lot of tethered shooting through capture one and a lot of photo editing in Photoshop. I have an eizo 24" external display I can hook up to but I feel the 17" with its high resolution and anti glare would be useful for location shoots so my question: Is the higher price and old technology worth it for the bigger antiglare screen and bigger harddrive for what I am using it for?

It is a TAD uncomfortable to rest my wrist on it, unsure if it is common problem or if it is acceptable.

Currently just surfing, and emailing. Using 9400M.

Software :: Uninstalling Apple Support And Updates Possible?

Dec 23, 2010

I operate Windows xp on Gigabyte Motherboard, Intel Dual Core Processor. I want to uninstall the following software from my computer:
1. Apple Application support v 1.3.2 - 44.50MB
2. Apple Mobile Device Support v 3.2.0.47 - 20.13 MB
3. Apple Software update v 2.1.2.120 - 2.26 MB
4. Bonjour - 1.10 MB

These software show up on my Revo Uninstaller Pro. When I try to uninstall (e.g. Bonjour) a Windows Installer box appears which reads: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" with two buttons 'OK' and 'Cancel' after this line. Below this, another paragraph says: "Click 'OK' to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Bonjour.msi' in the box below". Below, is a box titled "Use source:" In front of it is a button 'Browse'.
