I have just started a 2 week vacation. Airport express is connect in hotel room to an Ethernet cable. It is flashing amber but my iPad can connect ok but my Dell laptop can't see the wireless network or the airport express base station in the ae utility program?
I connect the Dell to the airport express via the Ethernet and forced a reset to factory settings but still flashes amber?
my airport express is in the other room so i can play my xbox360 online. but recently my express is flashing amber? and when i go to the airport utility i cant see my airport express.. so i just want to know how to get my airport express to get internet to it so i can plug and ethernet cord from my xbox360 to my airport express?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an AirPort Express which I use for AirTunes and to extend the wireless network of my Time Capsule. The Time Capsule is connected to my BT Home Hub (Modem/Router) via Bridge Mode, therefore, I run two networks in my home. The BT runs wireless G, and the TC, wireless N. Last week, my BT home hub was automatically restarting and cutting off the connection, this in-turn would cause the amber light to start flashing on the TC and AE. However, once the problem was fixed, the TC went back to green, but the AE still flashed amber. So today, I decided to move the AE to the same room as the TC and try to manually reset it using the push-pin hole on the bottom. That worked, but it only showed up in AirPort Utility for about 5 seconds before flashing amber and disappearing. I've tried re-setting it about 4 times, still with no avail.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've currently got a 3rd party WiFi network in my house and I've set the AirPort Express to join the network to act as an ethernet bridge. My VOIP phone connects straight to ethernet so that's what I have connected currently to the ethernet port on the AirPort Express.
Now it all seemed to work fine, but when I actually use the VOIP phone the connection seems to go dead for around 4 seconds on a regular routine of about every 10 minutes. I'm not getting disconnected or anything but it just goes silent. I noticed that whenever the connection does this the Airport Express switches from solid green to flashing amber for the dead period then back to green again.
Also, any idea how I can access the Airport express now that it's joined to my other network? Airport Utility can't find it since I've done that.
I'm seriously considering buying the iPad wifi. Without a LAN port, I was wondering how I would be able to connect the iPad to the internet when I'm travelling. Then I read up about portable routers and lo and behold, the Apple Airport Express was mentioned.So, would this set up work in a hotel?
1. I plug the Airport Express to the hotel high-speed internet via LAN cable
2. I connect my work notebook (much loathed Lenovo Thinkpad running WindowsXP Pro) using wifi to the internet via the Airport Express
3. I connect my iPhone to the internet via the Airport Express (using wifi of course)
4. I connect my iPad to the internet via the Airport Express (using wifi)
If the above will work, is setting up Airport Express to the hotel high-speed internet via LAN cable an easy or hard exercise?

My Airport Extreme that I just purchased last week has been solid green since I installed it but just today it started flashing the amber color. I am still able to connect to the internet and my PC still recognizes the Airport Extreme in my Airport Utility. Is this just because it probably wants me to install the latest firmware? I currently have 7.4 installed, not 7.4.1. I heard that 7.4.1 isn't any good so I would like to leave it at 7.4 for now. Is that the reason why it is flashing amber? Should I install the latest firmware or just leave it alone? I just don't like it flashing amber when it should be solid green...As of right now, I can still connect to the internet without a problem.

I have a 2wire at&t router that i connected with to the airport extreme via ethernet(the port in the back has a green light btw). I tried scanning for the airport extreme with airport utility but it couldn't find anything.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMBP dropped connection and now all I get is an exclamation point where it used to show full bars. This happened right during a time I was online using Chrome! I tried restarting the MBP, resetting the router (or whatever that is called), removing and addine AirPort under System Prefs but nothing works. I'm using the iPad 2 to access the Internet and write this, so I know it works. My iPhone also connects just fine. Just the MBP that suddenly dropped and cannot connect.

I've had my Mac for 3 years and never had a problem with Airport Express. If I did, I would usually turn it off and then on again and it solved the problem. The last two weeks I've been using a wi-fi hotspot near my home until I get a proper internet connection at home. Suddenly, my internet stopped working. The airport recognzies the link and still connects but the internet page says i'm not connected to the internet. I've tried using diagnostics and it says it can't fix my problem. In diagnostics, the first 3-4 lights turn on, but the last two are either yellow or red. I've changed the time to make sure it was correct, I've re-started the computer several times and it still doesn't work. I don't know what it is that is not working. The airport recognizes the signal, yet I get no internet connection. And I haven't downloaded anything recently.
View 2 Replies View RelatediBook G4 shows that the airport has full connectivity (full bars) yet it doesn't connect and states that there is no IP address. The iBook connects using its internal airport to a Netgear Router. There is a PC that runs windows that is connected to the cable modem. For a month or so both computers were able to access the internet simultaneously. All of a sudden the computers are unable to access the internet at the same time. When I attempt to connect at the same time my Mac gives me an error stating that another IP is in use and so I can't connect.
How can I give my iBook an IP address so that both computers can be online at the same time?
My iBook G4 is having network issues. Since waking from sleep, it will connect to my Airport Extreme base station, but I can't access the web, or access the router from Airport Utility.
Things I've tried so far:
*Rebooting
*Resetting the router to factory defaults
*Swapping out the router for a Linksys
*Clearing out network passwords from Keychain
I doubt it's a hardware issue, as everything works in Tiger (booting from an external drive).
Software Update ran yesterday and I installed the AirPort Utility update (version 5.5.2), and now my MBP no longer connects to my home network when the SSID broadcast is disabled. When I enable the broadcast the network shows up in the list of available networks and I can connect to it, then I can disable it again and the MBP stays connected. But if it's disabled to begin with it won't connect.
I never had this problem before the update, and no other devices on the network are having any issues. Has anyone else had this problem yet, or know of a fix?
Late 2008 unibody Macbook Pro running 10.6.5, all software is up-to-date except for the latest update to iTunes.
I have an Airport Extreme, with two USB hard drives connected to it. The Airport Extreme shares these disks to my wireless network via Airport Disks.
Upstairs I have an Airport Express, that wirelessly connects to my Airport Extreme downstairs, and extends the wireless network so I get a good wireless reception upstairs.
My problem is, that it does not seem like me Airport Express does a good job of forwarding my 2 USB Airport Disks to the extended wireless network upstairs.
For example, when I use the AirVideo iPhone app to stream video from my USB Airport Disks I get a server connection error when I go upstairs and the iPad/iPhone switches to the Airport Express networks. I cannot reconnect as long as it is on the Airport Express network. If I turn the airport Express off, and thus switch to the poor wireless reception from the Airport Extreme, I can connect to the USB Airport disks again.
The Airport Express is connected to the Airport Extreme in bridged mode.
Just a question for those who have used the Airports. Can a USB hub be used to expand the number of devices the Airport can use? i.e., an external hd, a laserjet, and an inkjet.

After configuring wireless security on my Airport Extreme base station, the Airport Express I use to stream iTunes music to my whole-house stereo system has disappeared. Airport Utility can't see it. Yes, I checked connections. All I get is a blinking yellow light on the Express. The base station works as its supposed to.

MBP 2.2; OSX 10.4.11; Airport Express 802.11n (version 7.3.2); WD MyBook 320GB (format Mac OS Extended) I'm trying to get the WD HDD setup as a wireless hard drive, but it's not showing up at all in Airport Utility (I don't even have a 'disk' tab in the 'manual setup' menu). Airport Disk Utility just says "no airport disks found." Of course the HDD works fine when plugged in directly to the MBP. I've searched apple support and these forums, but haven't found anything that works yet. All help I have found says use the 'disk tab' in AE manual setup window. What do I do without a 'disk' tab? (or how do I get one?) is this a firmware/software issue with the AE?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI currently have the apple extreme as my wireless router. It works great. I absolutely love it. I have two macbook pro's (wife and I both have one) and use it for my PS3 and Xbox 360. I started a new job and was given a free HP desktop (not my choice, but hey, it's free, so what can I say). The desktop is not wireless and I am not able to put my computer near the airport extreme because my TV already owns that territory. Today I bought the Airport express to use as a bridge (and other things in the future). I have plugged it in. I opened the airport utility using my macbook. It finds my extreme and my express. I select that I want to set up the express. I select that I want to set it up using an existing wireless network. I select my airport extreme. It tells me that it has to restart the express. I wait approximately 3 minutes. It then tells me that the settings to the express have been changed but it's not able to find it.
My main goal is to use the express as a bridge. I have the express plugged in beside the desktop and want to run an ethernet cable from the express to the desktop to allow for wireless capability.
AirPort Express doesn't show up in AirPort Utility 6.0. I haven't updated the AirPort utility on my laptop, and can find it there. 6.0 doesn't even has a scan button... I've done a hard reset of the AirPort Express, still isn't showing up.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have two Mac Laptops, 1 is the little white Macbook, the other MBP. We have DSL coming in and then thru a 2wire modem then thru the Airport. The 2 wire modem is connected to a PC. All of this sits about 40 feet from the bar where we use the laptops and is a straight shot.
My problem is that the the newer MBP is stuck in the mud when it comes to connecting, and then holding any type of signal strength with the wireless signal.The older little white MB works great, every bar on the wireless icon is black, on the other (as I type this they are both on and side by side..) only has one.
When pressing Alt/Option and clicking on the wireless icon the good computer shows a transmit rate of somewhere between 20 and 26 when I have checked it several times this morning, the bad one has never been above one.It seems for the price I paid for the Airport Ex. BOTH of these units should be getting full strength signals.Ever had this problem? No of any possible solutions?The fact that the slow one is my wife's machine doesn't make life any easierI figure before I make an Apple reservation I could do a little research myself.
I recently moved into a new apartment that has an Airport Express connected to a cable modem. The network does not have a password. I want to put a password on it so that not everyone in the building can use our internet.
When I connect to the Airport via the Airport Utility, it recognizes the Airport, but asks for a password when I try to configure it. I tried doing a soft reset on the Airport, but it didn't change anything. Are there two passwords for an Airport? If so, how can I bypass the second one? The "Resetting Airport Express" page at [URL] doesn't answer this question. Do I need to do a hard reset? If so, is there anything I need to know about that? We no longer have any of the original literature that came with the product.
I am upgrading from a g wireless router to an n. I have a Belkin right now that I hate. Neither I, on a mac, nor my roommate, on a PC, can get a consistent connection on it. Needless to say it's going back and I want to get an express or an extreme. I had actually bought an Airport Extreme first and it was lightening fast, but I was told that the Express was just as fast, so I went to exchange. The guy at BestBuy told me the Belkin was cheaper and just as fast, so I bought it. I would really like this to be my last trip to the store for a router. Do I need to shell out for the Extreme or is the Express just as fast if all you need is an n router?

Our house is already equipped with wireless connection through our DSL and Linksys router. (was in place when I moved in)
I was thinking of getting a time capsule for back up, but not sure if I could get it up and running with the Linksys or not.
Can I use my Express as an extender for using my laptop in the backyard? will it talk nicely with the Linksys?

I'm looking for a repeater of sorts, similar to the Airport express, but just not as expensive.
The issue is that my macbook drops out randomly, sometimes it just goes through phases where it drops the connection about 20 times in 30 minutes.
The issue is that the modem-router cannot be moved as its phone line based, so I think my last option is a repeater. The Express seemed ideal as its a small, simple unit that can be plugged straight into the socket, which would be perfect for where I wish to place it - is there a cheaper alternative?

Recently stopped working the green light was steady yellow. I search the forum did a soft reset, hard reset, factory default reset, etc and Is not working. Now all it does is when is connected to the outlet stays on yellow for few minutes and then shut off by it self. I even tried to connect by ethernet cable but when I run it my mac says nothing is connected to the cable and is a new one. When I tried to connect my mac can't find the devise true the airport utility. I have a mac laptop G4 12" Mac OS X 10.4.11 The airport utility is version 5.4.2 and both are up to date when I run the update application.
