Hardware :: Add A 7" External Touchscreen To Any Intel Mac?
Aug 19, 2009
Mimo is taking pre-orders on the Mimo 720-S, an 7-inch external touchscreen monitor that rotates and pivots to any desired angle. The 720-S is said to work with any Intel Mac and requires only a single USB connection.

I am looking at buying a new iMac. I would like to ask those who know their fair share about macs a few questions.Firstly, with regard to the design, given past upgrades, when would you think the current model will get a re-design. I would be annoyed if i fork out ?1000 for apple to bring a new one out, I ask this as i recall seeing something on apple filing a design for a touchscreen mac (could be completely wrong on that and making a fool of myself.) Secondly, what extra software would you reccomend, I am a university student so need it for work and I enjoy gaming, not that I have ever really got into computer gaming but I am open minded.

I just saw a 17" iMac on ebay that said it has a TOUCHSCREEN. It claims "the monitor is also a TOUCHSCREEN monitor where you can simply push the screen with your finger to run commands".
Is this true?
And if so should I consider this?
Is it slow, compared to new model?

OS X 10.4.3 IMAC Intel Core Duo. I backed up my HD on an external drive so I could upgrade to Snow Leopard. I wanted to test that I could boot from the external drive and selected it as my start up drive. When I did a restart I got the Apple and the turning gear and then suddenly a black screen with this on it:
"May 28 22:23:11 Launched:com.apple.nibindd:respawning too quickly throttling, exited system abnormally bad system call too many failures in succession I have no name!"
I tried several dozen times with no luck. I think when I made the copy of my HD on the external HD I may have neglected to make it "bootable" (moving too quickly). My internal CDROM is busted so I use an external CDROM. I can't boot from it at all with the proper start up buttons pushed. It keeps trying to boot from the external drive. If I turn the external drive off and try to boot from the external CD I just get the grey file with the ? in the middle of it.
I tried using another external HD I have with OS 10.4 on it, but it won't recognize it either with fan, alt, shift, delete pressed at start up. My internal drive (a Seagate 2 tarabite drive) works great, but how do I reset it as the start up drive when I'm stuck with this black screen. One more thing, when I try to reset PRAM I don't get a second gong.

I bought this Seagate hard drive go Flex from Costco and backup my HD using Carbon copy cloner. At the time of my backup the lion version is 10.7. I am now at 10.7.2 at my internal HD although the external remains at 10.7. When I choose the Seagate HD from system preference as the start up disk you will hear the dong sound and the screen would appear but then it will shut down and the external drive would go into low energy mood. In other words the computer recognizes the external HD as having an OS but would not go through with the boot.

It's a weird problem ,I got a iomega external drive usb3/2 compatible on my iMac white, Intel Core2 Duo 2.12 It's quite nw and always worked well. I have 2 partitions
1. iPhoto Library and music (mac partition, just mac)
2. Time Machine Backup
Since a while I got Time Machine errors but I didn't bother too much, now I discovered that the drive is visible but not mounted.
Investigated a bit with no results mounted on another macbook works just fine and all my stuff is there. The drive has additional cable for power (never used) I connected it without good result. Started in recovery partition and ... all my backup is there and visible and recoverable Seems however that backup stopped when I was on 10.7.3 I think 10.7.4 might be the cause but I don't know how to solve the issue and would avoid to restore via time machine and then get stuck again with 10.7.4
[code]...

My Intel MacBook is in the shop, and I swapped out my hard drive before I sent it in and put it in a USB enclosure. I was able to boot my friend's MacBook Pro from the drive, but my G4 Mac Mini is not seeing it as an option (upon startup or otherwise). I can read files from it, but I really need to boot from the drive for some other things (cookies, passwords, and especially the ability to sync my iPod touch).

Still new to iMAC (1TB). I have an external HDD 1.5TB and initiated TimeMachine (seems easy and fit for purpose) to keep a backup of everything on the iMAC. The iMAC did not come with an installation disc - apparently I would need to download the OS again should it fail or corrupt - unfortunately I have a VERY slow net connection - is there any way of backing it up to the external HDD to avoid having to download?
I believe I can purchase a copy of Lion in a flash drive - but I have already paid for Lion when I bought the machine? Would cloning sort this issue? If so - should I put the clone (Using something like CCC) in a separate partition? Have come across Recovery Agent - does it need to go in a separate partition? Finally - for now (!!) if I have to create any new partitions on the external HDD will it erase existing files, meaning I have to restart Time Machine?

Currently I'm upgrading from Leopard to Lion (via Snow Leopard) on both an iMac and MacBook Pro (both Intel), but before I proceed with the OSX upgrade I wanted to back everything up. Thus far I have partitioned an external firewire drive (G Drive - one that is bootable), and cloned each machine using Carbon Copy Cloner to it's own partition (both GUID). There is plenty of space left over on each partition, and is Mac OS Extended (Journaled).Â
The issue - I can boot the OS X from the external drive on the MacBook Pro but not on the iMac.
When I restart and hold down Option on the iMac the only drive that appears is the HDD, not the other two drives that are visible if I boot up on the MacBook Pro. On the iMac in System Prefs > Startup Disc I can see all 3 drives but when I select it and restart, the machine freezes on the grey loading screen and goes no further.Â
Not that it should make a difference, but there is a 3rd partition on the external drive that is currently empty (for extra storage).Â

My iMac switches from internal audio output to external when I log in after computer wakes up from sleep mode. It also does it when I "shut down" under apple menu and physically turn on via the power button on back. My quick fix is to go under audio settings and manually switch audio output back to internal speakers. I don't understand why it's switching on it's own. Could another program be switching the audio output, maybe iTunes?

Is it possible to set up a backup between two external drives?
i use time machine to back up my imac onto an external 2T.
i also have two external 3T drives. i am looking for redundancy of data, tried software RAID and it failed. i also see some limitations with RAID that a backup would avoid.

Can anybody recommend a wireless external hdd for imac that works well with apple products such as new macbookpro and new imacs? I know that appletalk as far as I am aware was discontinued and has become more generalised into bonjour but I am worried about wireless conection to connection being able to talk fluently (computer speak) to each other over a wireless home network. an external HDD which they know that supports apple and has in the past fast and fluently. I am moving from a G5 PPC, OS 10.5 Mac, to an Intel OS 10.7 (Lion) computer. There are apps on the G5 that I would like to continue to access and use (Applewqorks, Quicken etc.).
I BU the G5 to an external HD in a clone configuration via SuperDuper.
After the move to the new computer, is it possible to connect the G5 clone external HD to the new Intel Lion computer and start from and run the clone via the Intel machine.
