Is the current gen 13" 1.83ghz 4th ram MBA powerful enough to drive the monitor?Secondly, I have a desktop pc that's reasonable new, and I'm wondering if I buy a radeon 6870 with mini display port, will that allow the acd to display the windows pc? I don't know if it just wont work windows or if it was because there weren't really any cards with mini display port hookup. It would be a best of both worlds deal for me because I'm ready for a new pc monitor and I want an iMac, but the iMac lacks graphics cards that will satisfy me.
I'm looking to minimize desk space, do I'm thinking of getting a few things to do it.An Apple Cinema display, 24" inch, since it has built in speakers, webcam, ect., I would be able to get rid of my current speakers (That aren't very good anyway.) I want to know, is there ANY way I can get this working with my PC? If there isn't then what other monitors have this? Also, I'm thinking of getting an Apple Wired keyboard with a numpad to replace the GIANT keyboard I have now. I'd assume since it's a keyboard windows would automatically recognize it, but is there some Apple protection thing on it?
Great idea: Bypass the need to get an iMac but still enjoy the convenience of built in webcam functionality by buying the new MacMini 2.26GHz and purchasing a Dell SX2210 screen with a built in webcam in its stead. Sounds simple but neither iChat nor Skype seem to recognize the camera's built in existence. Driver issue?
i'm wanting to build a desktop hacintosh. But i also want the get pretty much the top of the line hardware. I'll also be installing windows 7 for games. I'm wondering if os x will run on core i7s, and also what specific hardware is compatable with os x? CPUs, Video Cards, Ram ETC. I have a 13 inch MacBook Pro but i am planning to sell it. I need a significant upgrade for everything i plan to be doing with computing in the next year.
Can someone tell me the difference between LG LCD panels LP154WP2-TLA1 and the LP154WP3-TLA1? I have a Macbook Pro (A1226) with a broken screen. I dissasembled it and found that I have the LG LP154WP2-TLA1 panel. I have found a couple of the LP154WP3-TLA1 panels at a decent price, but not sure if it is compatable. Also, what is the difference in the TLA1, TLA2, TLA3, and TLA4 models? Are they all compatable with each other? Would any of the other manufacturers panels be compatable with the LP154WP2-TLA1 (Samsung LTN154BT02 or AUO B154PW04)?
im going to use bootcamp, for completely non-internet related purposes(I dont feel like getting a virus on my 27 in mac) and I need some help here. So I got this thing that will work to be a converter with me ps3(absolutely unrelated and I was just wanting to know that if I use Window's XP in bootcamp, will it be able to detect usb's(HID i guess) and work with usb's like a Window's XP would on a PC?
I have a problem digitising footage into final cut from my Sony HD 1080i/mini DV camera.
It used to work ok, albeit with some rendering issues.I had it set to the HD settings. Suddenly it stopped working I have tried adjusting the audio visual settings, using several different types. The only one i could get it to communicate on was DV50 pal 48Hz anamorphic. But it stops digitising after 3/4 sec and says there is a problem with my source tape.
My father has recently been given a Power PC G4, which has OS X 10.2.8 installed on it. I have been trying to set up a Lexmark Z1420 printer (1 yr old) on this, however it tells me that it can only be used on 10.3 onwards. I am a windows user myself (boo hiss!) so am none the wiser as to how I can solve this problem. Surely there is a way for me to override this and install the printer??
I have an HP LP2465 Monitor. If I log on to the HP web page it appears that their are only Windows drivers and no reference to Mac compatability. Perhaps, this monitor may not be compatable with the Macbook? When I'm in mirror mode, the Macbook recognizes the HP LP2465 Monitor, but doesn't activate the monitor through the Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter. The monitor just goes to sleep. Does anyone know of anyway to get Macbooks to work with HP Windows monitors? Are there drivers available for the Apple?
Are the Mac intel processors compatable with a PC.In other words can an Intel processor in a PC motherboard capable of the same spec's of a mac motherboard be a drop in replacement?
I'm on an Apple MacBook (Intel core duo) and recently had to reinstall my version of Mac OS X 10.4.8 after unsuccessfully trying to download a software update of OS X (can't remember which version) via the Software Updates window which pops up. The software seemed to download fine but as soon as the computer restarted nothing happened. It just stayed on the grey screen at the beginning and the small circle icon popped up but it didn't load up the operating system. As a result I had to reinstall 10.4.8 via the CDs which came with the computer. It just so happened that while the attempt was made to reinstall the newer version of OS X a newer version of iTunes was successfully downloaded (V 8.1.1). However this does not now work with OS X 10.4.8 and comes up with the message 'You cannot use iTunes with this version of Mac OSX.
I'm researching into setting up a home security system consisting of several cameras recording directly to a Mac.What I need is a PCI Video input card. Any recomendations for a setup compatable with a G5 PowerMac, and can accept video input from 8 cameras?
I have a late 2008 white MacBook. It's the 2.4Ghz model with 4GB Ram. I think it would be powerful enough to run Mountain Lion but maybe there's a proc compatability issue? If I buy ML from the app store and it doesn't install will I still be charged for it?
I have seen a few videos about mastering and gave it a try myself. It can be done by clicking the master tab, then going to the Input 1-2 column setting and then clicking setting - mastering, etc. When I first did this a few weeks ago, there were many options such as hip hop mastering, electronic mastering, etc. Now, when I do so, I have different - much less enticing options and have no idea where the good ones went.
I'm sure most people suffer from this but here goes.
So I make a presentation on Mac Office powerpoint, everything is fine. I open it up at university on the PC, all is fine. I maybe change some text on a slide and save it again. Open the same file again on my Mac, and it won't open some silly error comes up saying trouble accessing file from mac HD.
Then luckily I have keynote, so I just open it in that and use that.
Point is why does this happen?? Whilst keynote is better, sometimes I have to edit things on a PC at work or uni and then it becomes a giant mess on my mac.
Is there a quick fix, or will I have to throw Mac Office into my growing pile of Microsoft related garbage.
I am just wondering why everytime I right click a file then click "Open with.." some Windows programs come up? I just recently formatted the entire system and haven't even got "VMware" or either Windows installed so I don't know why it's there.
I just bought a new Mac Pro and do lots of Photoshop and want to swap out the stock 320 gig drive. I'm leaning towards 2 ultra fast Seagate 1 TB drives in a raid 0 configuration. The Raptor noise level scares me a bit.
Anything negative to say about the Seagate drives? Any other configs?
I recently purchased a 2.8 octo Mac Pro that came with a stock 200 Gig HD. I purchased a WD 640 Caviar Blue HD for a boot drive and 3x 1 Tb Samsung Spinpoints for data and backup. When I got the Mac I simply took out the stock drive, put in the WD and did a clean install off the install DVD?s. The machine performs very well when it?s running my apps, like Pro Tools, but it?s sometimes a bit fragile when performing mundane tasks like burning dvd?s while surfing safari f.eks. It tends to freeze up quite a bit. Then I noticed also that the Samsung drives I put in it are a bit unresponsive. i.e. when i move files between folders on the extra Samsungs there is a few seconds of "lag" while before I can open the folders again.
I have called both Apple and ATT to address an inconsistent DSL connection with my iMac. Paying for highest speed available and at times it's blazing fast and other times, it's quicker to go to the library to look up the info!Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if there were any possible solutions to get it more consistent.
I have a mac osx 10.4.6 and want to watch tv on it Iam having trouble finding tv for usb 1.Iwill be increasing my mem to 512 if i can find something also can i convert it to usb2 as there seem to be more options?
Of all the things I've learned to do on a Mac over the years, and with all the help I've provided here at MR, I still don't know how to do the following:
On a rolled out dialog box like the one shown below, how does one go about selecting something other than the highlighted button (in this case Save...) using the keyboard?
I think Escape usually works to select Cancel, but how would I select Don't Save using the keyboard? Why can't I simply Tab over to it and hit the space bar or Enter?
While we're at it, I'm familiar with taking a screenshot of an entire window (CMD+SHIFT+4 followed by Space) but that doesn't seem to work to take a screenshot of a window + the dialog box, other than the sloppy way I just did?
I understand that this question has been asked a million times but I'm just going to be honest and admitt that I really dont understand all the "lingo".
eSATA, RAID 0, 5, or 10?
What does all this mean to me?
Since I'm starting fresh any advice on the best way for me to build internal storage so that I dont waste my money (spent $6K last night).
I have a PowerMac G4, dual 1.25, 2 gigs of RAM and I'm thinking about upgrading. I don't have a big budget so the new Mac Pro is out of the question. I've been trying to figure out what's going to be more beneficial for me: 1) I upgrade the processor on my G4 to the maximum of dual 1.8 or 2) get an iMac, maybe the lowest version of 2.4Ghz Intel core duo.I'm an audio engineer and my projects require a lot of audio recording, mixing, and mastering. Once in a blue moon I have to work audio synced up to video. That was the reason I HAD to get a PowerMac 4 years ago and not the old version of the iMac. All my software work perfectly with OS 10.3.9 so it's not a requirement for me to get a better operating system. In fact, one application is still not available for OS 10.5.
I'm a new Mac owner (i know i can hear you grown lol) and sorry to ask such a boring question but I can't seem to get my Expose to work, i can get spaces to work just fine although not when using the nominated hot keys - it only works when i click on the icon in the dock. I can't see anything in this forum that really details every step of expose and I don't want to to play with that app too much in case i create an abomination that I don't know how to fix.
As you may or may not know, there is something called the expose blob. It can be activated by typing this into terminal:Now, if done correctly, a little blue blob will appear. According to many resources around the internet that explain this little feature, they simply say that you just need to click it and drag it for it to move. Simple, right? And this is what it should be doing as well for my computer (MacBook Tiger 10.4.11). But it doesn't
My wife and i both use the same iMac. What i would like to do is when i wake my Mac from sleep be presented with the option of Guest account (which my wife will be permitted to use) and my own account.
It sounds like it should be something simple. I've recently switched from Windows and there are still a few things that i expect to work like a PC.
