ITunes :: Black Screen When Playing 1080P?
Apr 17, 2012when I play an 1080p TV show downloaded from iTunes, I periodicaly get audio and no video, just a black screen. I'm running on a 2011 27" iMac.

Apr 27, 2012I have a lot of 1080p videos on my Mac, and I can play them in every app but iTunes. iTunes says i cannot play the videos as I have a 1.86GHz CPU, which does not meet the requirements for playing 1080p HD videos in iTunes [URL]. The thing is is that I can play these videos in any other app (they are not protected files, as they are BluRay rips from my external BluRay drive).
My question is this: how can I get these videos to play on my Mac, and on my iPod touch as well?

Mac Mini :: Playing 720p MKV Files At 1080p Resolution?
Nov 19, 2010I have a bunch of 720p MKV files. I have my mini connected with HDMI to my 54" Panasonic 1080p. I set the resolution on the mini to 1080 and I play my MKV files...
When I set my resolution on my computer to 720p the movie takes up almost the full screen before i select full screen mode. When I set the computer resolution to 1080p and play the 720p media the movie screen only takes up about 3/4 of the screen until i set to full screen mode.
Do I lose any quality or get extra quality having my mini res at 1080p but playing 720p media?
Is the NVIDIA geforce capable of upscaling 720p to 1080?

Feb 16, 2009I've never owned a Mac before, but have a couple of friends who love theirs. So when the stunning new Air came out, I decided I'd join them after using only Windows PCs for so many years. I am trying to decide between the 128GB base 11.6" Air and the base 13.3" one. I prefer the form factor of the 11.6", and ideally, I'd just go ahead and get it, because portability is high on my wishlist.
However, my decision hinges on whether the 11.6" can play 1080p MKVs so I can output them to my TV when I'm not mobile.I've read elsewhere that the 11.6" with the 1.4GHz CPU struggles in OSX, but I'd be installing Windows 7 as well, my media player of choice being Media Player Classic. The reason for this is that it supports hardware acceleration of movie files with the GPU, so allows the CPU to be relatively unused, or assists a slow CPU in playing high bitrate/resolution movies.
So, after the drawn out intro, I guess my questions are: Does the GeForce 320M in the Air support hardware acceleration (DXVA) in Media Player Classic in Windows? If yes, is it capable of playing 1080p MKVs smoothly (for example, a 24 minute show weighing in at roughly 1-1.5GB)?
I would really, really appreciate it if some kind soul would be willing to try this out to help me make my buying decision. As I say, it would be my first Mac, so I'm really not sure when it comes to this kind of thing. And I do realise that what I'm asking is ridiculously specific, but I thought that if anyone could help me, it would be you guys.

Jul 3, 2009I bought the correct Mini-DVI to VGA adapter and 3.5mm audio cable for my black macbook 2.4GHz in order to project and watch movies, etc. When I hook everything up, the MacBook display settings recognize another display immediately. However the Samsung doesn't see anything connected into the VGA input. I know its not the Samsung HDTV because I had an '08 HP laptop hooked up just fine a few months ago. Should I try different resolutions? I searched the forums for awhile but nata.

Sep 10, 2014As the headline says the right half of the screen turns black when watching video content in iTunes on full screen. I can see the whole picture when moving the mouse a little but as soon as the navigation bar disappears the right half of the picture disappears too. It does not matter what source it is. Both podcasts and movies work (or do not work) the same.
The problem doesn't occur for other player (VLC, XBMC etc.).
I have the latest OS (10.9.4) and iTunes (11.4). The computer is MBP 13-inch retina, late 2012 if it matters.

Applications :: ITunes Movies Won't Playback - Black Screen?
Feb 1, 2010It seems a whole section of my 350+ movies in my iTunes have all of a sudden stopped playing back. These are movies that played back perfectly just a few days ago but now only display a black screen with the timeline ticking away as if it was playing. All these movies were ripped from DVD's and converted using Handbrake.
Has this happened to anyone else? I think its some type of file corruption but I can't imagine what caused it. What makes it strange is that it only happened to a section of movies and not one common trait can be found among them.
I've done a bit of googling and mroogling and haven't been able to find a solution let alone another user have the same problem.
Any ideas? I have all the video_ts folders backed up so I just need to encode them again, but I would like to prevent this from happening again.

Mar 24, 2012When selecting the iTunes Artwork screensaver and running "Test", the screen is Black or Blank (no Artwork). I left it running for over and hour and the artwork never appeared. I have tons of artwork in my iTunes library and checked it after launching iTunes. The preview window for the screensaver is also blank and does *not* say "Your iTunes library does not contain any songs with artwork".
- Consolidating / Rebuilding Library from iTunes. Then trying the screensaver
- Launching iTunes while holding "Option" key. Selecting the correct ~/Music/iTunes library again, then trying the screensaver
- Deleting the ~/iTunes/Album Artwork folder. Launching iTunes again. Downloading some album art. Trying the screensaver.

Mar 31, 2012I am a UK customer, and last night I purchased Top Gear India Special on my iPad, and I chose to download the 1080p version. I'm just wondering why iTunes hasn't downloaded an SD version as well as the HD version, like it always has done previously? I am unable to watch the India Special on my MacBook as iTunes says "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes."

ITunes :: Upgrade 720p Movies To 1080p?
Jun 4, 2012Apple when they did their press conference for the new Apple TV - specifically stated that previous purchases of movies from iTunes could be updated to 1080p. There was no charge involved, I just needed to redownload them. I wish that were the case. What am I missing? All my preferences state 1080p. Viewing my purchases shows all my movies I can download and pretty much all of them are available in HD. Yet, they are still downloading in SD (720p). Why? Online support/itunes sends me in a loop as far as downloading in 1080p. It never answers the question.
Do I need to re-buy (not going to happen) all my movies in HD to get HD? That wasn't what was stated by Apple.

May 28, 2012Why can't you play 1080p video on a macbook pro or mac mini? This means you have to sync files which are over 1GB in size one at a time to the new ipad just to view them and this takes a long time. When at home, I use itunes via a macbook pro/mac mini for all my multi media connect to my TV, now I have GB's of files I cannot watch at home.
It kind of defeats the object, there is not enough space on an ipad to hold much HD content, certainly I will not be buying anymore HD video files from itunes for this reason. I am dissapointed to have wasted money on 1080p videos that I have to sync one at a time to a new ipad just to watch them. The new ipad screen is great but surely we need the option to watch 1080p HD video on out TV too? The crazy thing is that itunes/quicktime can easily handle 1080p video which is not from the itunes store so Apple must be deliberately restricting itunes bought 1080p HD video to the new ipad.

May 24, 2012I came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?

Apr 30, 2012So I am basicly trying to play warcraft 3 on my late 2011 MBP 13. I managed to install the via a older snow leopard macbook. The problem that I have and is specific to my video config is that some textures go black. This does not happen on any other macs on Lion with a video card that is not HD 3000. For instance playing on a 2007 macbook is ok on lion. I attached screen shots from each machine so you understand better what I am talking about.

Sep 1, 2010I recently upgraded my system HDD to an SSD with a new install of OSX 10.6.4 and mimicked the settings I had on my previous set up to replicate it. however, when for example I was using iTunes to play music the screen saver would come on and a short time later the system would pause iTunes and goes into Sleep mode.
my previous install never did that so I'm not sure if its because of the SSD and it not being mechanical it doesnt recognize it accessing or seeking 'per se' because regardless of unchecking "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" it still does it. here is an image of energy saver settings; btw I had the system plugged into and still went into sleep mode when iTunes was playing and even other media formats such as Video in iTunes or VLC.

Said friend has kindly wiped the hard drive for me so now when you switch it on it makes the �opening� noise then you get a blue screen with alternating �?� and the Finder logo."
I have a feeling this may have been a temporary fault with the screen connector being loose and possibly damaged.But i assume the alternating "?" and the "finder logo" is simply a lack of OS?

Mar 17, 2009I was trying to install Windows XP Pro, but for some reason the it wasn't showing another HDD to install Windows on. So I quit the install, and restarted my computer. Now all that happens is the normal grey screen appears (with no Apple logo), then it goes to a black screen and has the blinking cursor (Kinda like DOS).
