Is it possible to extract a section of sound from a Quicktime movie, so that I can add it to my iTunes?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been slowly but surely figuring out the FCE program. About 3 months ago I editied a video, exported it and when I clicked on the .MOV file it automatically converted it to a QuickTime compatible file, which I was then able to save and upload to YouTube with no issues. I have not updated or changed any settings or anything on my computer since then and now when I export a video it shows up as an .MOV file that QuickTime can't access. Also, when I click on the "more info" button, it sends me to a link with a list of compatible formats and at the very top of the list is .MOV! I really don't know what to do now.
I just want to be able to view the video I edited and post it to YouTube.

MacBook Pro
Specs: IOS 10.6.8
Processor 2.4GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 -- Everything is edited, sourced, and stored on an 2TB external hard drive to make things go faster.
Editing with FCP 7
When I export the sequence I edited with quicktime, the playback video is very different from what I edited on the timeline. The playback has the clips with ins and outs that are way off than what I cut, and some of the clips don't show at all or have changed transitions. However when I play in the timeline in FCP, the sequence is fine, just the way I cut it.
The source of the clips was one long .mov that I cut into clips for the timeline. Everything has gone smoothly but the exported .mov is just so different. How can I get the time codes of the clips to be the same in the exported .movs? I just want the quicktime .mov to represent my edit exactly. can I play within the FCP player window and Log and Capture?

When I open my .mov file in QuickTime, it is 15:33. However, when I import it into FinalCut, it is only 14:09. Is this a frame rate issue?

There's a System Restore DVD I have which contains some .pkg files within a .pkg. However the disk does not give me the option to Show Package Contents like some other DVDs will. I tried using Pacifist to extract the .pkgs that are contained in the main .pkg file, but that literally extracts all the files within the .pkg I select, not the .pkg itself. Is there any way that I can just get the .pkg itself? I'm trying to figure this out and it's driving me nuts. If it's unclear what I'm trying to do, the only comparison I can think of is on Windows. If I have a zip file within a zip file, I can simply extract that one zip file intact without having the folders/files within it extracted. How can I do this with a .pkg within a .pkg? On a related note, is there a site that's good for learning commands on Terminal in OS X?

View 6 Replies View RelatedRecently my 3 year old MBP has lost its video capability. I took it to my local Apple store and apparently its a logic board issue which is going to cost $1400 to fix. Unfortunately I can't justify spending even more dough then I already have on the notebook for service.
So.. what I'd like to do is extract my iTunes library and various other documents. This must be possible, but I'm not sure how to approach it.
Currently the MBP boots just fine, and the only issue is video - so I'm hoping I can still extract the information without having to resort to removing the HDD.
First post! I'm wondering what app out there will let me create self extracting zip files that can be used on all computers (ie Mac and PC).
View 6 Replies View RelatedHas anyone tried Mail 4 (Snow Leopard's Mail) on Leopard? If so does it work? I am thinking about extracting the mail installer from the snow leopard install disk and giving it a go. My company is upgrading to exchange 2007 servers and I want to get used to using mail to sync with them. I haven't really messed with it much yet though, I have barely even played with snow leopard so far.

View 8 Replies View Relatedso I have 2 MBP's one has a broken superdrive. We installed SL and windows 7 via USB. Only problem is that Windows cant read the partition with the boot camp drivers. I tried the instructions in this thread: [URL:...] But the partitions as in the instructions don't appear. I put that command and I just get /dev/disk4 and that's it. Is there any other way to extract these drivers straight from the SL disc?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to rip my blu-ray library with MakeMKV and convert it with Handbrake (which is the best option I've come across for a mac user like myself) but when it comes to extracting .srt files from the resulting .mkv file I come to a brick wall. When I've thought I successfully extracted them using MKVTools (the only way I'm aware of on a mac) I can't find them anywhere on my computer, thus I can't utilize the "add external .srt" option in Handbrake.

I am aware of the bar at the side which allows you to view a list of annotations, and I have "selected all", but the option of copying is not available. I would to know if there is a possibility of me having all the highlighted text copied and available to be pasted on a word document in one hit?
I am trying to extract only email addresses out of Mac Mail so I can then use as input into address book or a mass mailer app. I have about 10,000 emails that need to be scanned. I have found an applescript at[URL].. which seems to have the right intent but not being an applescript expert when I run it it only creates a new workbook with the correct column headings and no content. I point it at the right mailbox. I have about 7 different mailboxes which hold emails received about a particular product which is the title of the mailbox (eg red product, black product). I figure I can produce an excel file for each mailbox and then join them togetehr adding a new column called product and populating it for the added products.

View 7 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how to extract audio from video files? I can't seem to do it from within the Handbrake GUI - is there a command line way of doing it? Otherwise, what's a program that can do it? Obviously I could use Audio Hijack, but I'd rather not have the quality loss that comes with re-encoding.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been working with iMovie 5.0.2 lately to splice together clips of historical shows that I have on my computer. It is great for cropping them to the right moments, but I find that it takes forever to import film and then to share a movie, not to mention the unwieldy size of the final product. I learned the trick of dragging the clips directly into the media folder of a project, but I still have a problem with exporting the final product. It takes forever, and unless I choose a format exceeding a gigabyte, the quality is rather poor.
On to my question: in the package contents of an iMovie project, there is a folder called Shared Movies, then a subfolder named iDVD. I have found a high quality format of my movie there, and it is much smaller in size. While I have noticed that it relies on the individual clips in the Media folder, I can't help but think that its size would be much smaller overall if I were to somehow free it from relying on the clips, as the size of the entire project is under 300 mb. Any suggestions on how to get this movie free of the other clips?
I just purchased a new Samsung HM640JI hard drive to replace my old 250gb fujitsu hd. The problem is, if I put the new samsung hdd inside and try to do a clean install of snow leopard, the setup always hangs at "extracting essentials" and I have to keep the shutdown button pressed to close my laptop. I thought I have a ram problem or that my dvd is busted but that's not the case because I inserted the samsung hdd in an enclosure, connected it via usb and the install went just fine. After the setup was over I rebooted a couple of times (still in usb enclosure) and everything was fine but after I inserted it in my mac everything went to hell: excruciating slow boot and runtime. I repeated the process twice to be sure. My mac is a 15" 2.53 core2duo 9400m

They freeze up, or run in slow motion while the sound track continues without any problem. I've seen other related comments on this forum, but no one has suggested a fix yet. I can play my clips just fine from the finder menu using "Quick Look". Other videos from the same camera work, what has changed?
