Software :: Adding Bookmarks And New Folders Under Multi-level Safari Folders?

Jan 20, 2004

I have a question for the the Safari geeks out here (1.1.1 version 100.1, running on MacOSX 10.3.2): I have imported my bookmarks from a Mozilla install on a Linux box, based on a hint I found here with the debug options (worked great!!!), and I have the following questions related to adding a new bookmark (based on the fact that my bookmarks are organized in multi-level folders, e.g. OperatingSystems->Linux->Security->Firewall, etc.):

- when opening Bookmarks->Add bookmark ..., how could I possibly collapse all the levels, so that I can easily scroll, and open/drill down into the appropriate level of bookmarks, without having to scroll thrrough all (by default) expanded levels? ... especially critical as some sub-categories may match names, with different higher level bookmarks, thus having to make sure I am where I want to be (e.g. I have a Security folder under OS->Mac, as I have one under OS->Linux, and I have to remember which one I am under, if the "parent" is out of the scrolling window);

- is there any easy way to add a new "level/folder", through Bookmarks->Add bookmark, at the time of salvaging a new one, vs. having to open the Bookmarks in a new window, adding the folder, then returning to add the new bookmark?

I hope the above makes sense ... I am probably hopeful - also - that people may have already run into this before

OS X :: How To Extract Archives On A Server?

Jan 2, 2009

I have a .zip archive on my server that I need to extract. However, I can't just extract on my Mac and then upload what it dumps out to the server - the file needs to be unarchived on the server. However, I'm not quite sure how to do this. I currently use Cyberduck as my FTP client, but I'm willing to use anything else that can extract this if Cyberduck cannot.

Final Cut Pro X :: 10.1.3 Does Not See Camera Archives?

Aug 23, 2014

I have tried to use the "camera archive functionality" for the first time and got a problem, I can't solve myself:

I plugged a SD-Card with content of my Panasonic SD 909 into my Mac and opened FCPX. Then I went to the "Import Media"-Window. The card is shown twice. I think, this is, because it contains different media. Some clips shot in Panasonics "iFrame"-Mode (which leads to h.264), some shots in the well-known AVCHD-mode. First is shown in the one camera-card, second in the other. Importing media from this card(s) into an FCPX event works without problems.

No I activated one of the two cards in the upper right panel and clicked on "create archive" (or similar, I use the german translation). A window pops up where I can choose the destination for the archive (I have chosen my desktop first). I did not activate the option "create favorite" for now and started processing.

It took a long while (about 18 GB of data), but then the archive was created and in the finder, I can see it on my desktop. Annotation: Selecting the first or second camera-card for archiving leads to the same result. In both cases a archive was generated which stores both contens (approved by examining the package size and content in the finder).

But now, the problem(s):When I go to the import window in FCPX again, the archive is not visible. It does not appear in the left panel of the import media-Window. Not as a camera, not as a device, not as an archive. Restarting FCPX and even my Mac does not solve this.I can navigate to the archive via choosing my harddisk/desktop in the left panel and can see it in the "choose media section" in the bottom of the window. It behaves like a folder there. When I open this folder, I only see the h.264-media, but no AVCHD-Clips. This happens, regardless which card I have choosen when generating the archive (tried it with both, and - as said - both ways result in the same archive).

What am I doing wrong? I know, in older versions of FCPX, archives had to be stored in a special folder inside the movie-folder of my user, but this has changed with 10.1.2 and the folder is not there any longer. Is there an other place for the archives? I thought, starting with 10.1.2 it's no matter, where to store them...

Or is this a bug in FCPX (10.1.3)?

If this is on interest, my OS is 10.9.4, the complete system nearly a "virgin" (fresh complete install).

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Saving PDF Pages As Web Archives

(I'm taking a punt as to this being the correct forum in the absence of any other guidance!) For some unknown reason I no longer seem to be able to save any pdf pages from the web as web archives on to my desktop - or anywhere else for that matter. I try File/Save as. but all I get is a pop-up which states "The document “title of page.pdf” could not be exported as “title of page.pdf". I have never experienced this before now and am sure I have successfully saved such pdfs since I upgraded to Lion.

OS X :: Sending Jpegs To Pc Owners?

Oct 7, 2010

I belong to a camera club and they asked for submissions in sRGB jpegs and not imbedded. I may have been confused when I saw my image show up in the message as well as the attachment above. Any way the fellow I was sending them to said he couldn't open them. I have sent hundreds of jpegs and never had a problem. Has anyone had this experience? I went back to the tiff and turned off the imbed in sRGB and saved in Microsoft preference and then converted to jpeg. I can't believe in this day and age jpegs are still a problem being read.

Applications :: Batch Extract Multiple Archives With Password?

Dec 22, 2009

I'm trying to batch-extract a large folder of *.rar archives which all have the same password without having to manually enter the password each time. To this end I have managed to install the popular extraction utility 'unrar' and use it via Terminal.

I think I've gotten a handle on using the switches etc, as I have managed to successfully extract one file, without creating a subdirectory, and without having to enter the password (apart from in the single command, obviously...). The next part, applying the 'unrar' command to all 578 files, is proving more difficult..

OS X :: Extracting PKG Files From Another One

Oct 25, 2010

There's a System Restore DVD I have which contains some .pkg files within a .pkg. However the disk does not give me the option to Show Package Contents like some other DVDs will. I tried using Pacifist to extract the .pkgs that are contained in the main .pkg file, but that literally extracts all the files within the .pkg I select, not the .pkg itself. Is there any way that I can just get the .pkg itself? I'm trying to figure this out and it's driving me nuts. If it's unclear what I'm trying to do, the only comparison I can think of is on Windows. If I have a zip file within a zip file, I can simply extract that one zip file intact without having the folders/files within it extracted. How can I do this with a .pkg within a .pkg? On a related note, is there a site that's good for learning commands on Terminal in OS X?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Easily Delete Duplicate Files In Old Time Machine Archives?

Apr 7, 2012

I have multiple older Time Machine archives from different Macs that I have been going through manually and picking files out and copying them to another drive file by file. I'm running into massive quantities of duplicate files and the biggest problem is muliple iphoto pictures including the same picture in different sizes.

I wanted to give up and just throw the whole Time Machine archive onto another disk so I could format the one it was on and use it for something else. But I got a message reading, "The backup can’t be copied because the backup volume doesn’t have ownership enabled." So I went to manually copy each "Macintosh HD" folder for each date into it's their own respective folders. It worked but required my password for each folder and each of the 19 folders were all ~75GB. Which is impossible because all of that data was on a 500GB drive.

OS X :: Extracting Data From A MBP With No Video?

Mar 15, 2010

Recently my 3 year old MBP has lost its video capability. I took it to my local Apple store and apparently its a logic board issue which is going to cost $1400 to fix. Unfortunately I can't justify spending even more dough then I already have on the notebook for service.

So.. what I'd like to do is extract my iTunes library and various other documents. This must be possible, but I'm not sure how to approach it.

Currently the MBP boots just fine, and the only issue is video - so I'm hoping I can still extract the information without having to resort to removing the HDD.
