I want to purchase the FaceTime App for my MBP, but i want to be sure that it will work for all users on my MBP. My wife and I (much to my dislike) share my MBP and When i go out of town, I want to be able to use the FaceTime app to chat with her and my son. We use seperate App store accounts for our Iphones (3g and 4s) will this matter?Â

My facetime was working fine until recently it asked for a login and this time when I did login with my Apple id, it prompted for email verification. However it is not able to complete the verification and keeps giving the following error message : Could not verify the email address. Please check your network connection and try again.
I have checked the support forums and they all point towards preferences. Problem is that the preferences option for face time is grayed out and I am not able to use them.Â

I have tried plug in mics on mic input, a bluetooth headset and there is no sound..I can hear and see other party, they can see but cant hear me. I am currently am MBA student and must create projects using power point/ keynote, very often. Many of the power points/ keynotes created by students are informative but lack the ability to hold an audience’s attention (boring). Since I have this wonderful Macbook pro, I would like to create a dynamic keynote presentation which would include clips of audio and video files (I already know about converting keynote to power point). The only problem is, the videos I want to use in the keynote presentation are not able to be manipulated in iMovie (due to their format), and if they where able to be manipulated in iMovie, I’m not sure that PC users would be able to properly view them.
What video format (including embedded audio) is able to be viewed and heard by both OSX Lion users and Windows users?  If this is possible, can anyone suggest a safe application that I can purchase from the apple app store that will allow me to convert video files (including embedded audio) so that it can be viewed by both Lion and PC users? Preferably one that does not need access to the internet in order to convert the files ( I’m on the go allot and use an air card for internet access), but I will take it if this is the best option. If the app store does not have this type of application, is there a place that I can download a safe one?Â

So I dropped my macbook pro and it was opened and it landed face down (screen/keyboard hit floor) and I picked it up immediately and plugged it back into the charger. The screen is black and it will not turn on and is making no noises or anything. When I plugged the charger back in, the light went green, but otherwise the computer is completely unresponsive. It has a plastic shell on it, but I still think that something could be wrong. Can this be fixed?! If so, how?!

I have an external drive connected to my AirPort Extreme Base Station; the drive has 3 partitions, and we have multiple Macs in the house. Is there a way to specify which partitions are available to which Mac? For example, I'd like partition #1 to be available only to Mac #1, and so on.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am setting up a new iMac for my parents and since I'm a noob to macs myself (had one for only a few months now) I was wondering what's the best way to set up user accounts. I need to create two accounts so ma/pa can log in and access their own settings, look and feel etc. They are moving from windows XP where they had their own user profiles (dad would leave his desktop littered with icons while mom kept hers nice and clean) so I need to keep two profiles otherwise this would confuse them. I guess my most important questions are:
1. Should I create a separate admin account first when setting up the iMac then create the addition two accounts, or just create two with one of them being an admin. I intend to put something like LogMeIn on there so I can remote in to do any maintenance for them, install apps etc.
2. Dad uses AOL mail and Mom uses Yahoo. I would like to setup Mail so that they can access their emails without using the web mail apps. Question: When the mail accounts are setup are they only seen when logged in under each user profile? In other words, will Dad only see his email in Mail then when Mom logs in she'll see her email etc. or will they both see each other's mail?
If you have a TimeCapsule that is currently backing up one MBP using TimeMachine, can you attach an external USB drive and then have a second MBP backup to that drive with TimeMachine?

I wonder if with regards to accessing FaceTime on multiple devices. We have a number of Mac products (iPad, iPhones and Mac Book Pro) at our house, all connected to one wireless network. Some of these devices can log into FaceTime but others cannot (notably the MacBook pro), using the same Apple ID details. The error message I get is that I should check my network connection. However, the connection is fine, and other devices have no problems with connecting to Facetime.

I have a weird thing going on.. I live in a home with 3 macs 3 iphones and a ipad. Our router is an Time Capsule. The weirdest thing happens though. At a given time it seems like only some of the computers can get internet. They all can connect to time capsule, but it is broadcasting an actually internet signal to only some of the devices. Which ones get the signal is totally random to. Does anyone have an idea of what's going on?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just wanted to add a sharing only user for my girlfriends new MacBook that she could use to connect to a shared Time Machine Volume. If I add a new standard user, this user can connect to my server via finder (connect as...) and see the shared drives. If the same user tries to connect to the Time Machine Backup Volume via the settings dialog, it receives an error message (OSStatus-error 5). If I add a sharing only user, this user cannot connect via finder or Time Machine (same error).
The clients console states the following error message:
/System/Library/CoreServices/NetAuthAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/NetAuthAgent[2471] AFP error -5018 mapped to EIO
Today when we started trying to add users to our server (we use it only for afp access at this time), we noticed that new users belonging to a group "storage" were unable to login from client machines via afp (clients both 10.7.2 and 10.6.8). Â
When we tried editing the users accounts to change which groups they belonged to, it would appear in workgroup (and server preferences) that the changes would take but there was still no access.Â
As a test case, we modified an existing user who had no issues logging in to belong to a diffenent group and have different sharepoint access. The changes looked good in workgroup and server prefs, but when the user logged in, he was only able to acces his old sharepoint and not the new one (and since his permissions to the old were removed, he shouldn't have access to that sharepoint).Â
Also, for some reason users cannot be deleted within workgroup manager any more. The login used was the diradmin account.

I'm the biggest iPhoto fan and was stoked for iLife 09'. I am just very disappointed with face detection. It hardly ever works. It's the same person but it always says unknown face. It only works when it is from the same scene, which stinks IMO. Love the idea, but not a success. Is it just me or does anyone else feel this way?
