View 1 RepliesI put in a cd that my computer was unable to read. I tried to eject it using disk utility but it failed. I read that another option was to restart the computer and hold down command, option, o, and f at the same time to open disk firmware to eject it. instead of actually working, my computer froze at the rstart screen, and i have no idea what to do - and i am unable to insert a disc.

Clarification: I lost the original cd so i just have this backed up image, so the image is legit.I just wanted to play this game and i dont wanna have to go buy the disk again.

I cannot insert a disc into my drive. Not sure it is relevent, but I was using cds last night and ejected a disc, but left it half-way out of the drive overnight. After removing the disc this morning, it will not let me insert another one. I restarted the computer, but the problem remains. I have a 27-inch intel Imac.

First time burning on a Mac... getting pissed - should be easier than this. I fumbled around for a while and now have a "Burn Folder" folder on my desktop with 3.7 GB of files I need to burn. When I open the file, click "Burn", it tells me to "Insert a Blank Disc to Begin" Okay, seems like I'm making progress... until I insert a blank DVD-R (4.7 GB)... nothing. It ignores the disc.
If I insert the DVD-R separate from the burn folder, I get a window asking me what I want to do, e.g. "Open Disc Utility, etc." none of which seem to be remotely related to burning a DVD... I thought these things were supposed be intuitive.... grrr.... I can't believe I've been I'm spending this much time burning a #$*%ing disc!
When i insert a dvd it says not supported disc. I copy the movies on my pc and when i open them again it says : The document could not be opened. The movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands. You may need to install additional software to open this type of file. i have other programs such as DVD player but it still doesn't open.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am not able to insert a dvd into the player on my 24" Mac desktop. I haven't used the dvd function in over a month. I am pretty sure there is not one in there now. I went into iDVD and DVD Player and there were no options to eject a disc so I think it is empty. However, when I try to insert a disc there is a thud and it does not go in. I tried to force it (a mistake, I know) and it went about half way in but it did not go easily. When I tried to remove it, it was stuck and it scratched the dvd when i pulled it out. Are DVD player problems common with this model? It is going on 3 years old.

We have just had a replacement drive put into a 15.4" MacBookPro and the installer made a mistake with the name. How can we change it to the right one? Do we have to insert the Mac OSX disc (Leopard) into the machine at start up and will this wipe anything that is on the machine?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased a new MM yesterday to replace one I bought 5 years ago. Everything is working great on it, but I have a mystery device called 'Remote Disc' in the Finder device list. I have attached a screen shot. When I insert a CD a new listing for the CD device is made & 'Remote Disc' remains.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm receiving the "no boot-able device insert boot disk and press any key" error every time I go to turn on my macbook air. The screen chimes, turns on and then goes black. I've been holding down the option key and that seems to work but do I have to do this every time I turn my computer on from now on?
View 2 Replies View Relatedmy iMac ejects blank discs when I try to burn music in Tunes or when I insert a music CD to play it.The disc spins around for about 15 seconds, then it gets ejected. I made sure the surface of the discs were clean and that I was burning from a "playlist," all to no avail. I was successful at playing a movie in iDVD, though, so I'm baffled.

i cannot insert a CD into my macbook. last time i burned CDs about a month ago, all was fine. there is no CD currently in the drive.
Info:MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
So, I was using my UB MacBook earlier today. I had a CD in the superdrive. I was shutting down the computer, and all of a sudden, as the screen was going black, the disk in my computer came out half way and the superdrive made a noise. I quickly restarted my computer to see what went wrong. I tried putting the CD back in, it didn't work. You all know how the slot loading superdrives suck in CDs. I now slide the CD in, and it won't get sucked in. In fact, the whole CD won't even go in. A little bit of it still sticks out. So now I'm stuck with a dead superdrive wondering what to do to fix it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI got iMac on my office. There is network issue on my iMac Desktop. When my computer remains idle for long time (sleep) and wakes up again, I can ping into the same network device (say 192.168.0.0 network) but I am not able to ping into other sub net (say 10.2.0.0, printer network).
Restarting iMAc resolves the problem or unplugging the cable and connect to some other Laptops and connect back to iMAc works again (I mean I can access other networks again). I turned of auto-negotiation and tried renew DHCP Address but it still doesn't solve my problem. Restarting the computer and unplugging the cable and plug-in back is not a solution for me.
Without warning my iMac [OS X Snow Leopard] popped up an alert saying that I should eject a drive before disconnecting it. I had done nothing to generate this error message. I clicked ok to close it and noticed my 4 month old, external 8T Mercury Elite-AL Pro Qx2 was no longer visible in my drive directory. I also noticed this external unit was making a looped grinding noise as if it was trying to write without success. I figured one of the drives failed and took it to the mac doctor. Other than a few directory errors, everything appeared to be fine, so I paid the service fee, brought it home and plugged it in only to find the same prob - obviously it's something with my iMac. Before I go spending more service fees, I wondered if anyone here could point me toward a method of discovering what might be wrong. I ran disk utility [verify and permissions] and fixed some directory errors, but don't know how to look further. iMac was home networked with a PC [Windows] and a laptop [Windows]. I did notice something wacky with the PC, but its very old and I expect it to die any day. I was running the network through the PC, so I direct connected the iMac to the router and modem but no change: still cannot see the external drives. What other info do you need to make an educated guess for me?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm on a G4 running 10.4.11. Recent strange behavior include mouseovers invoking clicks; cycling windows (programs and finder.) These annoyances seemed to have fixed themselves after restart. Now, many (not all) of my preferences have been changed requiring manual reset: auto login on start-up; internet connection. But the most problematic is that my CS3 programs won't launch due to one reason or another (missing licensing permissions or files; different messages with each program.)
I launched Disk Utility (using both Safe Boot and the Install CD) but Repair Permissions failed with a No Valid Package message
I'm using a desktop IMac 15" and have come up against a problem I can't solve. I selected the disk drive as the start-up drive. Put the wrong disk in the drive and it is unable to start the comp. Now I have a blank screen and cannot eject the disk.
This is the first MAC I've ever had that does not have manual ejection for the disk drive.
What can I do short of ripping the cases apart?
Why is it when I insert a CD into the "slot" does my Mac not read it....it pushes it back out. I have the correct disc, I have verified that several times. I have also checked the System preferences and I have marked ask what to do when a disc is inserted, but for some reason I can't burn or read any discs. I am using a Macbook 10.4.11.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an aluminum macbook, from made around January 09. The issue is I need to repair the hdd using the osx install disc. The problem is that when I try to do so, boot using the disc, it just restarts to the hdd, it will not boot from the disc. I try holding c and I have tried setting the disc as the startup disc and it just goes in this never ending circle of restarting and restarting. I've never seen this before.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy late-2007 Macbook's hdd got screwed and I bought a new one.
Now I try to install Snow Leopard 10.6.0.0 but Macbook won't boot from the install disc.
It spins the disc a couple of seconds and then ejects it.
Key commands don't help. Startup manager won't show up if I keep pressing the option key during startup and same goes with pressing c for booting.
The computer asked me to log in. This is odd, because he has the computer set to automatically log in. Anyway, I input his username and the new password. The computer rejected the new password, which I am absolutely sure was spelled and typed correctly. I tried entering the password using both his short name and long name. Neither worked.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought OSX 10.5 Leopard about 3weeks ago and still have not been able to install it onto my macbook. When I put the disc in for the first time I went through the standard procedure of clicking install OSX and then restart when it restarts however it goes to the Grey screen with the apple and the spinning loading symbol and just sits there forever.
I thought it was the disc so I took it back and ended up with the exact same problem. I then thought maybe I should just use my factory disc and wipe out everything on the hard drive. It gave me the same problem as trying to install Leopard.
Then I thought maybe it was my CD/DVD drive. Nope! It perfectly played a DVD and I was able to install Photoshop CS4 through the CD/DVD drive as well.
A Month later I am stock with a Macbook that won't budge. I am no longer under warranty so I am trying to see if there is a way that I can fix this problem first before taking it to the apple store where I know I will get charged...I love Apple but I must confess this task would be easier to complete on a PC.
I tried going to disk Utility and erasing the drive and that did not work either because it doesn't give me the ability to click the erase button when I click the Hard Drive. I got this computer from my friend's sister and apparently I am finding out that she had the computer's Hard Drive partitioned and running Windows XP on it on the TIGER OS.
I am not sure if this has anything to do with it but I think it may be a factor as to why the OS disc both Leopard and Tiger (factory disc) will not write to the hard drive. I'm thinking maybe there are some permissions or something not allowing it to write to the drive or something to that nature.
My idea is to wipe out the Hard Drive completely I don't need anything that is on it I already backed it all up. But how would I do this? Is there a program I can use? Can I take the hard drive out and take it to a computer repair store and they hook it up to something erases it all? or should I buy a $40 HD from eBay for the macbook?
I am trying to load a clean valid copy of OSX on my older clamshell. It will take up to 10.3 and that is what I'm using. I keep getting this error " Startup Disc was unable to select the install CD as the startup disc" error (-2). This occurs after the software requests restart to start the process.
