View 2 RepliesYesterday I noticed that my computer had been trying to complete a backup for quite awhile... Well it turns out that it was only a 382KB backup and it was taking hours. I tried clicking "Stop backing up" and nothing happened. The drive was in a repetitious clicking rhythm, and when I tried to eject it, Finder said it was in use. I put my 10.5.2 install disk in and ran Disk Utility. I have two partitions on that drive, Beta and Charlie. Beta verified and repaired without a glitch, but my time machine partition, Charlie, said "Invalid node structure, volume check failed." Also, disk utility was unable to calculate how much space remained on that partition.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook is starting to get really slow. I've tried Onyx and it told me that the startup volume had to be fixed. But I can't boot my install DVD by pressing "C" in the startup.
Is there another way to repair the disk?
My Macbook pro has been running slow as of late (spinning rainbow) causing other programs to freeze up. I verify/repaired the disk permissions with no problem until I went to verify/repair disk.
The error called "Filesystem verify or repair failed" appeared with the following information: invalid volume count / invalid directory count. This volume needs to be repaired.
Question: Is this causing the macbook to run slow? How can I repair this problem? What actions inflicts this problem? ( To prevent this in the future )
Right, I just upgraded the Hard Drive in my white Macbook today. So I put a fresh install of OSX on and put all my pictures, music, apps etc back on. After I had done everything I decided to check the permissions and repair any if needed. As it was verifying the permissions loads came up that needed repaired. So when i clicked repair it all seemed to go fine, it doesn't say any couldn't be fixed or nothing. But I went to verify them again just to double check and they were all still there needed repaired again.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just tried to verify my HDD, and Disk Utility said: Invalid node structure. Volume check failed. Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed. Now when I tried to reboot my Macbook, the gray Apple comes up and so does the spinning wheel, but after a couple of minutes, it shuts down.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook and last night it froze for a while, so I manually shut it down. When I tried to turn it on, it went to the white screen with the folder and flashing question mark. I don't know how to fix computers at all, so I looked online and it said to put the disc in. I went to disc utility and it shows the hard drive, but it is not as bright as the install disc.. does that mean it cannot be found? What should I do? I tried to reinstall the disc to my hard drive with the option checked to keep my old settings, etc but it did not work. Most of my stuff is not backed up so if there is any way I can try to save it before I try to reload the hard drive would be really great.

I have a WD Terabyte drive that I have used for over a year with no problems. A couple of days ago my roommate went to use it and disconnected the drive from my computer without ejecting it first. He used it with his PC and disconnected it without "safely removing" it from his computer and now it will not mount to my desktop of been seen by PC. Disk Utility sees the device but I get an error when I try to repair the disk or verify the disk. It gives me an "error on exit" message. I really need the 700GB of info on that drive. Don't know what to do next.

The Verify failed when checking the drive at the physical disk level, but the main volumes passed. Is this "normal", i.e. should I just be checking the volumes?

I have the "show detail" box checked but Disk Utility is not showing detail. It goes through verify and repair, says it is finished, but shows no files. I have never had No files need repair. My computer has been slow and erratic and usually running Disk Utility works, but not now.

I just installed a Pioneer Blu-Ray Burner on my MacPro 3,1. I'm using this burner for data backup.  The first two BD-R's worked using the Finder for burning but soon after that the BD-R's stopped verifying successfully. It will burn but then it gives me an error like this: Sector 6756448 is unreadable. Verification failed. 72% Some things I've tried.Â
1. Turning off sleep functions for the hard discs.
2. Lowering the burn speed to 2x.
3. Purchasing Toast 11 Titanium to use for burning.
4. Checked firmware and it is the latest. ver 1.06Â
The other bit of interesting info is that I installed the same drive on a MacPro of similar vintage and had no issues. More later on those specs.Â

I'm trying to repair my hard drive. I restarted from the OS X Mac Mini install CD (holding down the letter C when I heard the chime), opened Disk Utility from the Utilities folder, selected my hard drive image, but the "verify disk" and "repair disk" options are grayed out. I'm at a loss as to how to proceed.

I haven't had a problem downloading anything so far on my mac. However when trying to download Onyx in Safari the download finishes and then I get a "Verification Error" message. When trying to download through FireFox I get another error messages that my codecs are overrun. I've cleared my cache in both browsers as well as got rid of any partial downloads of the file to no avail. Has anyone experienced this before that can help me out?

i have even tried to fix the error from the bootable CD, but same error. i even upgraded to snow leopard but no apparent change. i dont even know if this is the cause of the problem. but all other stuff is OK. even the boot CD hardware thorough check was all ok.i still get some noise of the fan when i boot up for a couple of minutes then it goes away.but temperatures are quite good and fan speed is around 800rpm at the moment and no sound is to be heard.
I have a new MP Quad and I am noticing that I am always having to repair my startup disk. I will notice the system start to slow down, I will have Onyx verify startup disk and it tells me to repair it. I will boot to SL DVD, repair the disk and it will run fine for awhile but eventually end up in the same situation. Do I need to reinstall SL or is this a hardware issue?

My boss and I are both using Macbook Pro's running Snow Leopard. We have always used IP based network printers for printing. He decided this morning he needed to print to a different printer on the network. When he tried to add the printer on his mac he goes to IP printer, used LPD, and starts to type in the IP address of the printer. It never comes back from verifying the printer. If he forces it, it won't print to it.
Since we are identical configurations I tried it on mine, followed the exact same steps and yet I can add the printer no problem.Any thoughts as to what might be wrong on his Mac? He can ping the printer by IP, he just can't add it. I also checked to make sure he and I are on the same VLAN.

There's a flashing folder at startup and won't boot. I've tried the disk utility on the install cd but it cannot be repaired. It repaired it once, but when restarted it happened again. Ive also tried to reset the pram (not ire if thats what its called) and tried recovery hd, but those didnt work either. I want to backup my files, mainly pictures, but don't know how or if it's even possible through disc utility. I'm having a problem with Apple Mail. It won't let me open .doc attachments in a compose window, yet I can open .docx attachments without issue. For example, when I compose a new message and attach a document, I like to double click the attachment within the message to confirm that I'm sending the right file to my client.
With 10.5, this wasn't an issue. Everything opened as expected. But with 10.6, I get an error message that says "Mail was unable to save the attachment "file_name" to disk. Verify that your downloads folder exists and is writable." Again, this is ONLY happening with .doc files and it happens no matter which account in Mail I choose to send from.
