MacBook Pro :: Microsoft Word Crashes When I Open A File Or Try To Save Document
Feb 6, 2012
Every time I try to open an existing document or save a new one Microsoft word crashes. I am able to start a new document but if I try to save it all of the action/editing buttons fade/unhighlight (save, print, quit, copy paste, etc) and I am ubable to do anything. However, most of the buttons in view, history, bookmarks, tools, window & help still work. Then I have to force quit because the option to quit is no longer available.
How Can I save a document in microsoft office word 2008 into a specific subfolder within my documents. When I try to save the doc to my documents it does not show subfolders within documents.
This has been happening on and off for ages, from half a year to a year. I have been trying to open a document for 4 hours now, it opens it and then freezes, i then have to force quit it and start over again. Some times i have left it for a while others i quit it after it stops responding. It is getting ridiculous now, i have also searched for ages on the internet, some problems are unrelated some seem related but the fixes don't work, I need to get word to stop doing this.Â
I thought maybe it was because it keeps opening all my previous documents that I had open, i unchecked the box so it doesn't reopen windows and it still freezes but on this document instead. I do not have a clue what to do and I urgently need access to these documents, the documents aren't damaged, i was working on them before, and had this problem with many other documents that also weren't damaged. What should I do?
I have a Word document (Business Plan with lots of tables and pictures) that i have lots of problems saving as one PDF file as it has multiple sections. I was wondering if Pages could integrate this Word document effectively and would I be able to save it as one PDF file.
how to embed an image with a link, or embed a Microsoft Word document with a hyperlink built within the document -- not as an attachment into my email -- but where it shows as the email content when opened! Does ANYONE know the secret? Can it be done, or not? My PC clients do it all the time easily. Then I want to be able to send the embedded image/document (not as an attachment, but visable within the email when opened) to many email contacts at once, BUT the individuals receiving them DO NOT SEE the other email contacts.
I have a Mac OS X version 10.5.7 i am working on Word 2008 for Mac, version 12.0.1 (080305).
My problem, i created one text box in a document, somehow 2 more appeared. I made the mistake of thinking that to delete the extra text boxes, i simply highlight them and delete them. Silly stupid me, nothing that simple exists and i have wasted an hour trying to figure it out. The help button does squat, barely gives you any info on a text box much less trying to delete it. Does anyone know how to delete a text box in a word document?
I'm using MacBook Pro 10.5.8. I'm having trouble with microsoft 2004. When I select text from a portion of the document (like a paragraph) to change its property (like make it bold, or shift a block of text over by a tab), the whole document (everythiing else that i did not select) moves. This can happen to 200 pages! It's driving me nuts. It's also doing it to new documents. I have thrown away my preferences file: preferences/com.microsof.Word.plist; and restarted my computer but it keeps happening. I'm trying to finish a huge writing project with deadlines at the end of the week and it's making it really difficult to work.

I cannot save a document in Word or Word-compatible form. The only options I am given in File is "Save a Version," which does not provide for saving in Word. How do I do this?
My daughter has been using Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 and lately it crashes repeatedly. There is one document that consistently will do this, and it is important for her to keep. It can be opened in Pages, but she insists on wanting to use Word.
I need to save a document from word as a pdf to add to a webpage. When I choose "save as" >pdf, I get the error that the header and footer are outside the printable margins... if I continue, it doesn't just cut off the footer, it cuts off about an inch an a half of the document.
I've reset the margins in word to accommodate the entire thing, but it still cuts it off in pdf format. I've searched for other answers, but it seems that people have more printing issues, not just saving issues.
i just basically screwed it up. When i started writing it i first saved in .odt and later i saved it in .txt and unicode format. I thought everything's gonna be fine so i deleted the .odt files and had cleared the trash bin but that's where the nightmare began.
I went to the printing shop to get the essays to be printed but their windows computer couldn't "read" the chinese characters and it all turns out as "?" sign. I thought it was only a windows problem but when i went back to open it in my MBP, it's all "?" too. So i quickly installed a data recover program and i am just praying that i can recover the .odt files I would be dead if my essays are totally lost. Anyway, the question is: What extension is best to save a Chinese word document? AND, I just deleted the .odt files yesterday, do you think there's still a chance for it to be recovered?
I am using ms word mac 11.6.6 with mac OSX 10.6.8 and two times now I have edited a document, tried to save it and it froze up. The error message is "command is not available b/c the document is in modal state".
When I tried to save a word file, the system keep telling me "this file is being used by another program, please save again" then the file name turned into something like "Word Work File L_230232796.tmp" and I have to choose another name for the file. Besides, sometimes the new file cannot be opened correctly.

How do I save an existing document with a new file name thereby having two documents the old one and the new one with changes? Once a document has been saved once opening File no longer offers the save or Save as choice. Clicking on Save a version does not work either.
Right away when I tried it, it opened up in my microsoft word free trail. Please tell me I don't have to pay another $150 dollars after all this money I spent on this computer.
I have a microsoft word document that I need to print out and this document is located on my notebook pc. Unfortunately, I can't seem to print this document on my notebook pc either wirelessly or through usb connection. I am able to print wirelessly/and or through usb connection on my imac computer. My question is how to do I convert a microsoft word document into a pdf file so I can print this on my imac computer?
As I am completely new to the mac operating system, I was also wondering if I could send this word document as an attachment to my e-mail address, open up the document and then print it. Is this possible? I appreciate any feedback/info on how to resolve this issue.
All of a sudden Word and Excel won't open any more. I just get a message that says "Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I recently just got a mac and having trouble opening a word document in pages. It would open but all the original tables, bars, and shadings done in word does not open. Its just opens in text and spaces... Ive also notice that in quick look I can see the original document in full but does not open in the way it was showed..?

Every time I open a document on Microsoft Word for Mac 2008, it crashes. I've had this computer for over a month and the problem just started recently. I'm running Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I was instructed to go to the "Preferences" folder and delete com.Microsoft.Word.plist. When I delete that file, MS Word starts working again for about a couple minutes and then goes back to not working again. How can I fix this? I need to be able to use MS Word for taking notes in college. Should I reinstall it? Should I just switch to iWorks or something?
