1) I have an external drive that has crashed (lacie "rugged" - 3 months old HA). This HDD contains files only - no OS.
2) I also have an external hdd that contains a timemachine backup of the lacie drive.
3) However, the computer I'm working on has never been configured to use timemachine so it doesn't know about my backups. (backups were made using a loaner computer).
I appear to have deleted some MOV files that were in my iPhoto album. Is it possible to restore only the ones I deleted, and if so how?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an brand new HD that I want to restore from TimeMachine. Erased and partitioned this brand new drive. Created 2 partitions and formatted as “OS Extended Journaled/ GUID.”
Did a “Command R recovery boot” and went through the steps to backup from TM to my new HD. 15 seconds into the restoration process Msg. reads: “Error occurred while restoring from the backup.Restart your computer and then try restoring again.”
Trouble shooting:
Luckily my original files and initial boot drive that TM was backing up from remains fine and I performed some more TM back ups as well as a TM backup onto another drive as well.
I even tried restoring to another empty drive with older backups and backups off of another HD and got the same error message. All my BU’s and BU attempts have been within 10.7.3 on the same MP.

I want to verify if Migration Assistant will restore a backup from NAS drive to a new computer. I just got a WD My Book Live Duo NAS drive which supports Time Machine backups for Lion (and Snow Leopard). Unlike backups in Snow Leopard and the WD My Book World Edition (white light), the new NAS drive creates a sparsebundle the first time a backup is initiated. When I open Time Machine, a single volume for my backup appears. I have 3 Macbooks backing up to this drive but when I open Time Machine on any computer, only the backup created for that computer is shown. This raised a question for me that if my computer dies, how do I restore the backup from the NAS drive to the new computer? Is this what Migration Assistant will do? What are the limitations? Does the new computer have to have the same IP address as the old computer? Can I select what gets restored?

So I had a Macbook with Windows 7 partition (RTM from MSDNAA since I need it for Visual Studio 2008) and I created a backup with Winclone. I got a new MBP 13" and so tried to install the partition from Winclone.. It says that it was restored successfully but when I start up my computer I get BSOD and my computer keeps restarting. (Think its due to hardware change?) I cannot even repair it with the windows 7 cd.

I do not have any disks, since I bought it refurbed from a local guy. I need to delete my admin account (yes I do have password) and create a new admin account. View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having issues restoring from a time machine back-up. My old system was running 10.6, and I am using 10.5 install discs. I've tried it from various backups and I always get a 'you need to restart your computer' message upon booting up. I've now given up and just re-install 10.6 a fresh. I'm fairly confident restoring my music and documents wont be a problem, but will I be able to just drag and drop my apps onto my HDD? Do I need to copy the library folder across too, or is it just not possible and I'll have to start a fresh?

When I saw you can't just drag the backupthing wherever you want, I did some research. Here I learned you're supposed to go into timemachine and delete the backup through the 'gearsign'. I tried this, but it does not seem to work. My external HD just makes noise, but nothing happens. I tried a really small file (20kb), to check if it was the size that mattered. Nope. It won't even delete that. What am I supposed to do? I have other files on the external HD that I don't want to ruin, that's why i'm not formatting.

I have everything backed up on an external 1TB drive using Time Machine. As a workaround for the time being,Is there any way I can install the system on the external drive and use that as the boot drive without erasing the Time Machine Backups? It seems to me I would have to have two partitions for the external drive, one for the system, and one for Time Machine. Will I be able to move that folder to the new drive and restore Time Machine or not? If there's another process, please advise me. I don't trust the old drive another day, its working intermittently and making clicking noises of death for a week now. BTW, how many are using USB vs FireWire for a Time Machine Backup Drive. The graphics capabilities are poor for my standard of work (we use 3DS Max and Maya for intensive modelling during studies). I know my graphics card is quite outdated (ATI X1600) but a lot of the graphics-intensive apps on the Mac side run very smooth.
So I'm going down the Boot Camp route since graphics-wise, it'll use the actual X1600 instead of some virtual one. It's telling me that I need to reformat into Mac OS Journaled or something, and some basic research tells me the only way to achieve this is a fresh install.
My question is, if I perform a Time machine backup onto my external drive, will it restore the applications/settings/files completely how they were, after I reinstall OS X?

What are my options for getting around this problem? I have VMware fusion but I cannot easily see my external drive in XP. I have a time machine backup I need to restore. It's a backup from an external drive that has failed.
When I go "enter time machine," I can't see the contents from the external drive anymore to restore it.. because the external drive isn't mounted. It's not mounted because it has failed. I can see when I browse the TM backup directly via finder there are files from the amounted drive in the backup... as I'd expect.
So... How do I restore drives from an unmounted external drive?
Do I need to buy a new drive and name it the same as the old drive? Then will it show up?

I take total bootable backups of my macbook pro with superduper application, to an external hard disk. In a few months I plan to buy a new mbp, and I would like to know if it is possible to 'copy' my whole osx system environment(applications, data, everything) to the new machine, using this superduper backup, with the appropriate restoration process.
Can I boot the mac from the external hard disk, then run superduper, and use 'copy' option of superduper to copy the osx environment from external hard disk to internal hard disk? I think that everything should work fine but I do not know if it will appear any new hardware/configuration problem.
Alright so I have a problem with iTunes, whenever I try to update or restore any iPhone or iTouch on my computer it will never finish restoring completely. It will get to about 95% progress and then stops and I leave it for hours and it never finishes. I have iTunes 9.2 and have reinstalled it but no luck. I have had to restore my iTouch on a second computer that has no problems.

Are there any other directories / files that need to be copied over? I'm trying to avoid having to set up my phone, playlists, genius info, etc all from scratch. I have experienced some problems with my email account recently which I think it is a spam attack. I've been receiving lots of spam messages and got my all messages in my inbox deleted. Sent items luckily are still there.
