Windows On Mac :: New Computer BSOD (Restoring From Winclone)
Oct 2, 2009
So I had a Macbook with Windows 7 partition (RTM from MSDNAA since I need it for Visual Studio 2008) and I created a backup with Winclone. I got a new MBP 13" and so tried to install the partition from Winclone.. It says that it was restored successfully but when I start up my computer I get BSOD and my computer keeps restarting. (Think its due to hardware change?) I cannot even repair it with the windows 7 cd.

I used WinClone to save a Vista backup on my external drive (Mac formatted), removed the Vista partition using Boot Camp, recreated a new partition using Boot Camp, and then attempted to restore my Vista backup using WinClone. (When I recreated a new partition using Boot Camp, I left it as FAT32. I didn't use a Windows CD to change it to NTFS, because I believed WinClone does it for you automatically.) When I tried to restore my backup, WinClone gives me an error message (click on the thumbnail below for full-sized version). I have no idea what went wrong. Can anyone suggest a solution for me please?

I've got Windows 7 x64 Ultimate installed on my Crucial C300 SSD in the OptiBay drive and have backed up the image using WinClone prior to updating the SSD firmware. When checking the WinClone forums I noted that users have reported they were unable to restore their Boot Camp images to an SSD via WinClone. Some have even bricked their drives and have had to have them replaced.
Has anyone had success with the latest version or should I avoid restoring my WinClone image and perform a clean installation from scratch?

Naturally I had to restart my mac a few times, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary; everything performed as expected. Even played some counterstrike in windows before I rebooted back into osx.
A few hours later I tried booting back into windows, and it says there was an error and gives me the usual boot options (safe, last known working config etc etc). After I select one it begins to work, but after 5-10 seconds I get a bluescreen that lasts for a split second before rebooting. /repeat.

I have recently bought a new macbook pro early 2008 and have installed bootcamp on it to play games.
I have noticed that with the stock nvidia drivers that came with the bootcamp cd, I was able to set my screen brightness at a pre-determined level once and for all without adjustment.
However, with that stock drivers, I have gotten a few BSOD while playing DotA, so I have updated my drivers to the latest nvidia beta laptop drivers, that made the brightness issue pop up.
Now whenever I switch on my mbp, I would have to go and set the brightness of my screen to my desired level EVERY SINGLE TIME, if not it would be turned back to maximum contrast every time I opened a single window. Now this pisses me off a lot as I game a lot.
Any of you guys have the solution to my problem?
I would greatly appreciate all of your inputs!

I have a 13" 2.4GHz mid-2010 MBP, with a legit version of Windows 7 installed. Sometimes I virtualize using VMWare, but usually I boot right into it when I use it to play games.
It's all been going well, until I would sometimes just shut the lid while I'm on Windows 7 bootcamp. When I open the lid, the computer is shut down, and I have the option of booting into OS X or Windows. If I choose Windows, it's as if it went to sleep (which should be happening as I'm closing the lid instead of shutting down).

I want to move my Boot Camp partition to a new hard drive, something which I would have used Winclone for in the past. Now it's been discontinued and seems to not work under Snow Leopard I need to find another way. Are there any other programs to complete the same task?

I had a 320gb hd drive in my mbp that was running out of space. So I ordered a 750gb drive to replace it. My mbp is partition 25% Mac 75% Windows. I used Carbon Copy to clone the Mac side of the drive to the new drive. Then placed the new drive in the mbp.I then used sys utilities to partitions the new drive 25% Mac & 75% windows. The I downloaded Winclone to the Mac side and attempted to make a image of the old bootcamp partition. I selected to save it to an external drive that is formated for Mac.
About 80% in the Winclone stopped and said Errors Found see logs.Tech support can't figure out why it's not making the image. Then they suggested I turn off the screen saver. So that's where I am not.

I have Windows 7 installed on my mid 2007 MBP and just purchased the new MBP. I used winclone to clone the partition, and transfered it to the new partition on the new MBP.
Everything went smoothly with winclone, but windows fails to launch, it crashed on the load screen and trying to restart pops the windows error screen saying that windows failed to start due to new hardware configuration.
I tried safe mode as well as booting with the disc and selecting repair.

I made an attempt to use Winclone to move Win7 (NTFS, 64-bit) to a new hard drive. After the image was deployed I rebooted. On the new drive,Win7 BSODs - I can't even boot into command line mode as it summarily reboots. The original bootcamp partition boots perfectly, however. I know Winclone was discontinued - assuming other people have used it with Win7 and have not had problems, without having to use Win7's DVD to do a repair install or to - for the moment - delete the original bootcamp partition that I know works, are there any means to fix the boot sector or alleviate this problem? (I think the BCD wants to point to the wrong partition, despite it starting to boot on its own...)

I wanted to move my current version of XP set up on an early 2008 MacBook across to a new silver unibody macbook. I used winclone and the new boot camp partion was fully set up and will boot up fine into the windows log in screen. The only problem is that the keyboard and the trackpad will not work. I'm guessing that when I installed on my old MacBook that it only installed the drivers that I needed and not ones for the new MacBook.

My parents are having the exact problem described in this thread (and I've been tasked with remote tech support): [URL] Upon startup, WinXP gives them a BSOD reboot loop while indicating that a DLL file is possibly corrupt. Booting in Safe Mode won't work, and reverting to an earlier snapshot merely delays the problem by 24 hours or so.
The obvious and ideal solution would be to boot into Repair mode from the install disc and copy the clean DLL to replace the damaged copy. The problem is that, according to the thread, I'll need to first get Fusion to accept a floppy image of SCSI adapter drivers for me to even be able to enter Repair mode. The link for that image was broken in the thread, but a little Googling directed me here: [URL]

1) I have an external drive that has crashed (lacie "rugged" - 3 months old HA). This HDD contains files only - no OS.
2) I also have an external hdd that contains a timemachine backup of the lacie drive.
3) However, the computer I'm working on has never been configured to use timemachine so it doesn't know about my backups. (backups were made using a loaner computer).

I have a power G5 dual processor with mac os x 10.5.8 leopard installed. I need to erase it to how it was when I got it. I do not have any disks, since I bought it refurbed from a local guy. I need to delete my admin account (yes I do have password) and create a new admin account. I dont want to lose any applications or software on the comp, such as the iMovie iDVD etc... but I want to get rid of anything I downloaded from the internet as well as my personal files I have saved. It seems like a lot of my stuff is all scattered around. How can I restore it back to original clean install, keep my apps and software, but delete my personal files and downloads?? I also have my 500 GB hard drive split into 2 partitions, and an airport card installed etc..

So I got my mac fixed and I picked it up from apple store, when I was restoring I messed with the external as I was restoring and stopped it in the middle. So I don't have a snow leopard disk or any disk with me. If I borrowed a leopard disk could I restore? I want to restore completely from the day my computer crashed.

I'm having issues restoring from a time machine back-up. My old system was running 10.6, and I am using 10.5 install discs. I've tried it from various backups and I always get a 'you need to restart your computer' message upon booting up. I've now given up and just re-install 10.6 a fresh. I'm fairly confident restoring my music and documents wont be a problem, but will I be able to just drag and drop my apps onto my HDD? Do I need to copy the library folder across too, or is it just not possible and I'll have to start a fresh?

Has anyone ever had something like this happen? I have a 13" unibody MBP, and I installed XP on bootcamp. I installed civilization IV on XP and played it for a while. Booted back into OSX and used that for a while. Then I went back to XP and now everytime I try to start civilization IV I get a BSOD memory error on XP and it crashes. I'm going to go ahead and install Vista instead and hopefully I'll still be able to run Civ4 fine and not have it crash hard everytime I try to run it after booting between OSX and Vista.
Anyone ever have something like this happen before? I find it strange that it didn't start crashing until I booted into OSX then back to XP.

The hard drive on my old Power Mac G4 recently failed and I lost all my data. I have I backup of my Tiger installation, but no way to restore it - I have no other Mac computers, just Windows ones. I also don't have any OS X installation discs. Is there any way I could format and restore the files to my hard drive from Windows?

I'm planning on purchasing a new hard drive soon to replace my current MacBook Pro 15" HD. For Mac, I'll be restoring my HD configuration through Time Machine.
I don't really want to reinstall Windows and reinstall all the apps and games on it and do not have a Windows-based imaging program that I could use.
I've heard of an app called WinClone that acts like CCC or SuperDuper and can image and restore the installation for you. However, the development of WinClone has apparently stopped and according to some posts in the MacUpdate link, it is incompatible with Snow Leopard/other users are experiencing problems while using WinClone.
What should I do?

I bootcamped my Macbook Pro with minimal assistance from my mac geek husband tonight - and messed up - BIG TIME. When in the "partition mode" of windows it asked which of the systems I wanted to FAT or partition. Well - me not knowing - thought the 200mb space was a little small and deleted it.
When the system restarted and I read the error - I knew I was in BIG trouble. So I went to boot camp assistant and got this message:
The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.
Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again.
I am FREAKING out BIG TIME! Can you help me to restore the information - so I may go and humbly as my husband to help me do it right - or maybe google the directions before starting.

I am getting following error after opening Ooo (Open Office org) "The application “OpenOffice.org” was forced to quit while trying to restore its windows. Do you want to try to restore its windows again?" And nothing is happening after pressing both available button "Restore Windows" or "Don't Restore Windows". Even when i am trying to shot down my system Ooo stops me for doing that.I have to force quite it before restarting/shutting down my system. Nothing is happening when i am trying to opening any doc or xls file i am getting same window every time. I have also tried to install new updated version of Ooo, but problem still exist.
Steps I followed.
1- Selecte OOo from application list and Make move to trash.
2- Selecte OOo folder from /Users/Fauad/Library/Application Support and make move to trash.
3- Empty the trash.
4- Install OOo new version.
5- Run it
I have read post about command for terminal like rm -rf .DS_Store i have tried running it in Appplication, Library/Application support, or on Desktop as well but nothing changed. As far as i remember the problem is because i have forced quite all open application before shtting down my system.

i heard winclone is ideal to backup bootcamp partition. i am currently running Mac OS X 1.4 tiger. winclone 2.x runs only on Mac OS 1.5 & above (leopard) winclone 1.6.6 runs on Mac OS X 1.4 & below (tiger) Currently , all the download site that i go are making winclone 2.0.9 available for download only. i don't seems to be able to find a dowload site for the older winclone 1.6.6 version anymore. which site can i download winclone 1.6.6 (the older version) as this version can run on tiger. But the newest version runs only on leopard

Okay I've had it with VMware Fusion 3, tried Parallels. The graphics capabilities are poor for my standard of work (we use 3DS Max and Maya for intensive modelling during studies). I know my graphics card is quite outdated (ATI X1600) but a lot of the graphics-intensive apps on the Mac side run very smooth.
So I'm going down the Boot Camp route since graphics-wise, it'll use the actual X1600 instead of some virtual one. It's telling me that I need to reformat into Mac OS Journaled or something, and some basic research tells me the only way to achieve this is a fresh install.
My question is, if I perform a Time machine backup onto my external drive, will it restore the applications/settings/files completely how they were, after I reinstall OS X?

I recently deleted a Winclone backup on my Macintosh HD partition. It says I have 34.69 GB when I really should have 74.78. 40.09 GB difference.
My Partition Capacities:
Macintosh HD - 168.88 GB
Windows 7 - 54.43 GB
Backups - 26 GB
Applications Folder Size - 12.69 GB
My User Folder - 67.65 GB (Don't judge me. =D)
System Folder - 4.63 GB
Library Folder - 9.13
[The total of those is 94.1]
Then that should leave me with 74.78
See the problem? I've tried restarting the computer, but that didn't help.
