MacBook Air :: Can't Download Programs On It
Apr 20, 2012I am having trouble downloading program files on my new MacAir. Every time I try I only get part files in the downloads folder and I can't open them.

OS X :: Programs Still Download If Computer In Sleep?
Apr 14, 2009I went into system preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Screen Saver. And then I changed the "Start Screen Saver" option to never, but it said for the others after 10min " Your computer will sleep before your screen saver activates. So will my computer stop downloading a file from the internet if i just leave my computer on over night? How do i change my signature?

Aug 29, 2009I just picked up my new 13 inch 2.26 GHz macbook today and am really happy. But i have a few basic questions and all since i am a new mac user coming from a pc. 1- I have a 500GB western digital elite harddrive that i used to back up all the data from my pc. Now some of these files are over 8GB large. I am confused as to how i can transfer over files. I have heard about different file formats but i am very confused by each. I would love if the hardrive could be used for both mac and pc tho. Does anyone have any insight to this. 2- Are there any free programs i should download. I already have coconut battery, adium, istat pro and iwork.

Mar 25, 2010I have a question about using my new samsung tv as a monitor for my macbook. I have all the cables and such and my TV reads the computer. It actually shows the desktop background, mouse, and the toolbar on the tv...
BUT....when i try and open a program such as safari or itunes it does not display the program on the monitor but rather on my macbook screen. It shows the program open on the tv monitor but it shoots off the screen and then opens on the macbook screen.
Also the mouse disappears from the tv monitor screen on the left side only, and when it does it becomes visible back on the macbook screen! Any tips or suggestions on how to get the programs to show up on the monitor instead of the macbook screen?

Jan 13, 2011Programs such as iTunes, EyeTV, Skype, PhotoBooth, etc just RANDOMLY stop responding. I always have to restart my Mac to get them to respond again. The programs work fine on a guest account.
This is my first Mac and this is my only problem with it please help. I don't want to return it to Apple it's worked so great.

Mar 2, 2009Basically I cannot remember the name of two programs I remember I wanted to get but totally forgot the names and browser history does not have the sites.
First program is a booting freeware that lets me choose boot OS Windows XP/Mac and would recognize Linux if installed. The name sounded like ribbit or rbedit.
Second program is a freeware screen capturing program, it allowed me to record my screen for long periods of time or was it pay to use? Hopefully someone can remind me...
I planned on getting these programs but totally blanked out and cant retrace myself.

Aug 15, 2010What are some programs you use that you feel are necessary? What do they do? Why are they necessary? I use smcFanControl, gfxCardStatus, and iStat. smcFanControl obviously lets you control your fan speed. gfxCardStatus lets you choose your graphic card or use the default dynamic switching. iStat is of course the famous widget that basically tells you everything you need to know about whats going on inside. I feel all of these are necessary for me to have complete control of my Macbook Pro.

Apr 15, 2009While they seem perfectly able to password protect a folder, this folder seems far from secure. In each case, the folder itself is not accessible without entering the password, but the files are visible in the finder under "recent documents".
I was hoping for a program that could securely protect these documents from casual viewing (including the "search for" section of the finder bar) while being relatively user friendly. I don't care about encryption.

May 17, 2009I have Photoshop CS and microsoft office for my macbook pro with 10.5.6.
the programs were working fine untill about a week when my computer crashed during an update to 10.5.6. I had to reset the NRAM and PRAM, and then it started up working fine. now when i attempt to open and office program or photoshop, they dont open and it says it has closed unexpectedly.
Also, when i try to reinstal it from the disk, the intallation app closes unexpectedly as well.
Since the crash, safari and firefox open, but i have to reset and relaunch it every time.
This happened to me once before, but i ended up bringing my computer into the mac store and hey fixed it, but i am wondering if there is a way i can do it without having to bring it and not have my computer for a day.

But web developers have become wily it seems. No longer do the old methods appear to work. I've tried: Apps for downloading youtube videos, using the Activity window in Safari (only a small SWF file of about 21kb appears in the activity window), numerous Firefox plugins� To no avail.
There are apparently apps for Windows that can manage to download these tricky types of videos, is there anything or any method on the Mac? I've been ripping my hair out trying. I've searched the forum, but none of the suggested methods work.

I also use Firefox as my web browser. and i know i dont need antivirus but i would like some type of protection. so my question is: what free programs would protect you against privacy and personal issues such as data or spyware? And against Microsoft Office viruses that it brings in? And I know people don't like Java and you should block it?

Jul 5, 2008I am trying to sync a folder on my desktop with a folder on a USB drive. Simple, right?
I have seen several programs that (may) do this, but all of the ones that I have seen are $30-$40. I have found several free programs that do something like what I want it to do, but miss the mark by "that much" (for example, Transmit will sync, but only with a network drive). The closest I found was an Automator action, but for some reason the synced items were three seconds apart from each other, so every time it would just re-sync the entire folder (which defeats the purpose).
Are there any free programs that will do a simple sync between two folders?

Jan 24, 2009Basically, before I started using AppZapper for complete removal of the programs, I was just doing the drag'n'drop thing to the Trash when uninstalling programs.
Now I do not wish to keep my MBP polluted with unnecessary cache and other "remnants" of the previous programs that might not have been removed completely by the drag & drop method.
I've downloaded CleanApp, but from the looks of things it seems just like another AppZapper type of a program - for deleting current applications. However, I'd need something to look for possible remains of my previously installed programs.
Is there such a program?
