can anyone say what the best option is for a program that syncs bookmarks between multiple browsers. One that maybe shows all the bookmarks in a dropdown from the menu bar and possibly free. I tried Bookit, but it doesn't even support firefox.
View 3 RepliesSo I have 3 Mac's here all running Lion. I deleted all bookmarks from one Mac and turned on and off the Bookmark Sync button inside system pref, then hit "Merge". It found something from somewhere and stuffed it in there. I've done the Merge part on the other Macs but I can't seem to affect what's in there. So how do you manage this? And why does it keep putting "untilted folder" in the bottom - I've deleted about 3 each session...Really I've got one Mac that I want to be the master for now - but isn't the point of this so you can quickly add a bookmark and it will show up everywhere. I'm not even trying to deal with iOS yet. (bookmarks there are kindof secondary - since I'm only using an iPod Touch.)

Can Safari be configured to display bookmark icons in the bookmark bar? I love having that feature in Firefox. I like having just the icon in my bookmark bar; that way, I can fit in more bookmarks and it's less cluttered.Does anyone know how to display bookmark icons in the bookmark bar in Safari? Can you get different skins for Safari so that I could get that feature?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI have a bookmarked a reputable company for easy access.Log-in icon, easy and secure, no problems.Weeks ago, I entered a wrong password, and a page stating "error" appeared. log-in was successful when reset and again, secure, and safe.
Now this page is still appearing any time I press the log-in button to access the secure logging in page, when I go to bookmark. OK, I removed the whole bookmark from safari, accessed the general web site of the company, and whenever I try to access the log-in page, (not even bookmarked!) I immediately get the same error page!, again and again, without even entering any data or user name or attempted password. This "error" page must have been stored somewhere on my MBA.How can I remove this and start a fresh bookmark?
I need an app to save all my important bookmarks to, are there any out there?I have had to uninstall and reinstall variuos browsers and i always loose my bookmarks, so i need an app that saves them, so they can be retrieved later, if anything were to happen.

Restarted. Nothing seems to get it back. An ideas as to what happened, or how I can fix it?

I've tried quitting safari, I've rebuilt permissions. The bookmarks are still there - I can 'show all bookmarks' from the bookmark menu - just the bar has gone
Any ideas where it might have gone to and how I can get it back - hadn't realised how much I depended on it for casual browsing unti it wasn't there.
Recently I installed SafariStand and loved how you could add a new tab by a bookmark on the bookmark bar rather than having to click on the little plus sign way in the corner in Safari 4. I also tried to add a close tab bookmark as well but have no lucking in finding out how.

is there a way to do this? i'd like to have a small number that identifies the position of the bookmark on the bar so that i can quickly know what number to press.
I have used Firefox for years but I just downloaded Chrome to give it a try because I hear good things about it here on MR. I have a bookmark toolbar and in Firefox, I have have just text only, but on Chrome, I can't find out how to disable these icons.

All my folders had organized sub-folders containing hundreds of links before I downloaded Safari 4.0.3, with the viewable page version of bookmarks only the few "loose" pages can be seen. Where did all my original (subfolder filled) bookmarks go? Can I get them back?
I do have Glims installed and I checked "Replace bookmark titled "-" with menu separator." However, I can't get it to work.
What exactly do I need to do? I tried adding a folder to bookmarks menu by clicking "+" and then renaming the folder to "-", but it didn't work. I also tried renaming a bookmark to "-" or - if you will, but nothing worked.
It would be really great to be able to bookmark some words you want to remember or review in the native dictionary, thus keeping a list of them for future reference. Of course you can copy paste to anywhere and keep them thus but I was looking for something simpler and more straight forward. Any plug ins or third party apps?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently started using Google Chrome after seeing all of the new extensions. So far a few things are still left to be desired. I was wondering if anyone knew of an extension I could use to enable bookmark keyboard shortcuts, i.e. Command+1 for your first Bookmark in your Bookmark Bar on Safari. In chrome Command+1 will select a tab if you have multiple tabs open.
The lack of the shortcut has severely slowed down my work flow, I have been using Command+L to focus the address bar and manually typing in the website. I have searched a lot today and found Bookmark Launcher, Shortcut Manager, and Chrome Dial. I am not looking for these extensions. I might use something like USB overdrive and map out the key combination (if I can).
When I click on the bookmark icon in Safari it does not show all the bookmark folders I have in my bookmarks drop down menu.

I've tried dragging and dropping the folders but that does nothing, and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Safari (it just came back with all my bookmarks in exactly the same place), then I tried restoring Safari to factory settings but that did nothing either.
I have a question about using my new samsung tv as a monitor for my macbook. I have all the cables and such and my TV reads the computer. It actually shows the desktop background, mouse, and the toolbar on the tv...
BUT....when i try and open a program such as safari or itunes it does not display the program on the monitor but rather on my macbook screen. It shows the program open on the tv monitor but it shoots off the screen and then opens on the macbook screen.
Also the mouse disappears from the tv monitor screen on the left side only, and when it does it becomes visible back on the macbook screen! Any tips or suggestions on how to get the programs to show up on the monitor instead of the macbook screen?
Syncing between two remote Macs?
I have two Macs, one at each of two locations (home-office and business). One is a Mac Pro (2009) and the other is a recent MacMini, both with OS-X 10.6 and similar specifications.
Would like to have both machines seamlessly match so that I can travel between them with no loss of application functionality.
There is only one user, so one Mac will always have the more recent data.
I understand that there are work-arounds, such as just replacing everything with a new laptop. Or physically transporting an external drive, perhaps backed up via SuperDuper or Qdea for example.
But a backup/restore can take a long time (at each end). So, is it possible to do this without a hardware �sneaker-net� solution?
Third-party apps such as ChronoSync and Martian Slingshot would seem to offer some possibilities. But would that work with an Apple Mail database for example?
Obviously, it is the data that needs to be synced, not the apps, but would there be any issues with application licenses (since some Apps look at the machine ID)? And would it be necessary to sync the Library/Application Support files too?
And what about application updates etc?
Cloud solutions such as Dropbox and Mozy are great for smaller files, but some of the databases we use are several Gigs in size, which is way beyond their capability (both in upload time and capacity).
For example, even an iTunes database might have some minor changes each day, which would need to be synced.
I know Time Machine will make snapshots for system backup. But let's say I have all my media(movies, TV shows, etc..) on a backup drive and I want to periodically sync it to a 2nd external drive. SecondCopy for Windows does exactly that. It will allow you to select whether you want to sync the whole drive, or part of it and will only copy over the newest folders/files.

I figure there would be two ways; it could just copy the Itunes directory which always has things sorted by artist, or it could try and duplicate my playlists as folders. I'd prefer the latter. I would love to listen to it as I run but I can't find it on my iphone. It is checked in itunes and I have it set to sync my entire music library so it should be on there. Any ideas?
If it matters I have changed my email address that I use for my itunes account since then but to my knowledge all of the older music I bought with that account still syncs perfectly fine.
Also it shows up that it is on my iphone when I look at it in itunes but not on the iphone when it is not connected. I watched it sync saying updating that track on the phone too.
This is a issue that i think iphone users have quite a bit.
I have the 3gs. For some reason whenever i sync to itunes, iphoto doesn't pop up. Problem is that i can't get my photos to sync into iphoto. i have the 10.6.3 software which supposedly fixes this problem but it still won't sync.
I just got a new MacBook Pro and transferred all my music/movies/apps onto it. However I haven't synced my phone to it yet.
I'm worried something will go wrong or all my apps will be rearranged which I really don't feel like dealing with right now.
Before I go and sync it does anyone have any advice? What should I expect? Once I sync it, can I choose to sync it to either computer?
I'm helping a friend setup a new Mac and they're trying to sync contacts from their Windows laptop running Exchange/Outlook. They want to sync the contacts from there to the Mac's Address Book application. Just the contacts...nothing else. They have an iPhone and a MobileMe account. It'd be preferable if the solution was some type of free one. I tried setting up Exchange ActiveSync direct to the Mac Address Book but the Exchange server isn't 2007.
We tried setting up the iPhone with the Exchange ActiveSync and that did sync the contacts. However, there doesn't seem to be a way to bring those contacts from the iPhone to the Mac Address Book. I was thinking of running some kind of plugin (Yahoo or Google?) on Outlook to sync the contacts and then setting up the sync in the Address Book. MobileMe is out as an option there as the MobileMe sync on a PC doesn't work if Outlook is with Exchange.
