OS X :: Safari And Firefox Crashing After Clean Reinstall Of Snow Leopard
Nov 26, 2009I loved the speed improvements Snow Leopard gave to my computer, but I knew that I would have to do a clean install sooner or later. Now, Safari and Firefox are crashing frequently (multiple times a day!) and everything is slowing down again. I'm hoping a reinstall of the operating system will fix that. However, I used up all 5 installs on my Family Pack. Can I reinstall Snow Leopard with that disc, even though all 5 installs have been used? Do I need to buy another copy? Can the Genius Bar do the clean reinstall for me while my computer is there for other repairs?

Oct 23, 2009I recently reinstalled OSX 10.5.8 on my penryn MBP so I could make a larger XP bootcamp partition. After reinstalling leopard and restoring my whole system through time machine my computer is acting weird. First, "the file "itunes library" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes". It didn't upgrade itunes to 9 till after I had done all the TM restoring. should be older, no? Second, adobe applications crashed. I was in AI working on a 500 mb file and BOOM, beach ball>crash. All other CS3 unable to open. I have 4 gigs of ram and some of the applications that would not open were not even in use at the time of the AI crash, could this be something with the TM backup? CS3 was all installed together.
Third. While this epic crash is happening on my desktop disappears. Just a blank desktop image. but wait, If I click were things used to be, Bam they appear out of no where, but only if I click where it is supposed to be. It's there in the desktop folder but not showing up as icons on my desktop. I think this has happened to me before the reinstall too, though never all at once, usually when I use the "pinchy" to resize icons one or two will disappear. Fourth. Cisco clean access agent beach balls and requires hard reset. the login window was floating on screen all the way till the screen turned off. These all happened in the same day, now It is working some what like normal, though my itunes is broke. Any ideas on how to fix this itunes? If I only need one application and it's plug-ins (SU and Podium beta) restored through TM ( i have a disk for all the others) is there a way to just restore the one. Would this give me a more stable system over all? should I go ahead and reinstall and restore the one app and do the rest manually?

Nov 17, 2010My son installed Microsoft Office on his computer and he used the same serial number as the one on my computer. Now every time he uses office I have quit it form my computer and when I need to use it he is quit his office.
Well, we have student teacher copy of office with 3 serial numbers. I have 2 other serial numbers that he could have used. Is there a way to wipe the serial number he entered on his computer and use the other serial number? If not how could I totally remove office from his computer and install it again with a new serial number.

Oct 26, 2009My safari (4.0.3) has started giving me the spinning beach ball way too often. I've repaired permissions but it's still doing it. So I thought it's time to reinstall it, must be corrupted or something. I'm running OS X 10.4.11 on a power book G4. The only instructions I have is the user guide that came with my mac and it's a bit too vague. can anyone give me a basic run through on how to reinstall just safari?

Dec 17, 2009Safari 4 seems to somehow have been deleted from my mac. The dock icon had a question mark in it so I removed it from the dock (nothing happened when i clicked on it anyway). When I looked in my applications folder it appears to have gone from there. No problem I thought, i'll just reinstall it. Luckily I have Firefox on the computer so I went to apple.com/downloads and tried to download Safari 4. Nothing happens. A screen comes up saying thank you for downloading Sarafi but nothing has downloaded. Still not a problem i thought because i'm sure I have a copy of Safari 4 in my downloads folder from a few months ago. Found it, clicked on it and went through the install process. When it get to the "select a destination" stage it won't let me install because "this update requires Mac OS X 10.5.7 I have Mac OS X 10.5.8 which means it should work being a newer version. I can continue using Firefox but it seems a bit weird that I can't reinstall Safari. I have also noticed that for some reason i can't download anything else from the apple downloads page.

Oct 2, 2010After Latest update (security update) that came out not so long ago, my safari experience has gone from good to bad. I have crash on me at least twice a day. Anyone else had this? I noticed that it usually happens when I try to compose email on Gmail, when I press compose and enter my friends email press enter to select contact, after that the wheel starts spinning and then you get "Safari quit unexpectedly"
Does anyone else have this issue? Also my startup times started to get slower.

Feb 11, 2009Every single time I am on the web, a box will pop up telling me about some error that occurred, and then Safari will shut down. It brings up the dialog box telling me what happened, and then gives me the option to relaunch, report to Apple, etc. Does anyone else have this problem? I am completely caught-up on software updates.

I have deleted the plist, reset Safari, uninstalled and reinstalled, used multiple users, and no luck. I've been using it since it first came out with no problems until now. What happens is the new tab or window may or may not open. If it does open when I type in a website it will either appear in the new tab or window and also change the previous tab or window to the same website, or it will fail to load in the new tab/window and only change the previous tab/window to what I'm trying to load.

Nov 4, 2010I'm using Safari 5.0.2. Lately every time I use Safari at some point during usage when I try to open a new tab or window I cannot do so. What happens is the new tab appears but the website I want opens in one of my other tabs already open. or it will fail to load in the new tab/window. At the same time as this happening Safari is crashing more and more and my Macbook fan is whirring like mad.
Any ideas what's going on? It's so frustrating having to get chucked out or log out to make my tabs work for a short while before they stop functioning properly again.
I am not overly tecchy minded so may need hand holding to help me through this!

Sep 24, 2006I am having problems with Safari when I go to watch StatTracker which is used for fantasy football, the program uses Flash so I downloaded Flash player 9. But after having Stat Tracker open for about 30 seconds it crashes. I verified my persimissions and then repaired them thinking that would solve my problem. It didn't. So I was just wondering what should I do? Should I go and uninstall Flash Player 9? If I have to do that where is it located I can't find it in my application folder.

May 5, 2009I can't figure out why Safari crashes after about a minute after launch. It doesn't crash when I log in as another user. I deleted the plist files, and the cache, but it doesn't help. I uninstalled Safari 4 and it crashed immediately on launch with Safari 3. I reinstalled Safari 4, and it once again crashed after about a minute. I deleted everything in ~/Library/Safari. I repaired permissions. It still crashes. Firefox works flawlessly.
What should I do next? This is the first time in about 10 years that I can't seem to diagnose a problem on my mac. Very frustrating. Does someone have any idea what I should do next?

The program crashes continually for a variety of reasons, and while I can eventually get it up and running again, I can't isolate the causes of the crashes. I would like to "revert" to 10.1.2 or 10.1.1. How do I do this? ( I don't have the old program saved).
I have been using FCPX since it came out and FCP (the original) since it was introduced.

Nov 2, 2010Lately I have been noticing some applications, most memorably Safari and Pages, quitting unexpectedly. I'm just in there and boom, out of nowhere, it quits. Has anyone else had this problem or know what may be causing it? I am on a brand new 15" i5 MBP running Snow Leopard 10.6.4. I was going to switch back to Chrome from Safari, but since other apps are doing it too. I'm thinking it's not just the web browser's fault but the fault of something else on my computer.

Jan 18, 2009When using either Firefox or Safari, recently, to watch instant movies via Netflix, the browser unexpectedly closes. Sometimes it gets to the buffering stage. I've cleared all my private data (history, caches, cookies...) and redownloaded flash/shockwave. I have the most current Silverlight too.
Any ideas? It worked perfectly since I've had it (about a month or two), up until today.

Sep 15, 2009I upgraded to Flash Player 10 a few days ago, and since then both Safari and Firefox are crashing almost every time i visit a page with Flash. I have tried uninstalling flash and reinstalling a developer's copy of version 9 but the crashes continue.
I have read a lot of complaints about similar problems, but have not been able to find a solution or even an explanation as to why it's happening. So I don't know if it's a conflict with the latest version of Leopard (not Snow) or what.

Dec 23, 2009Late this morning on my iMac 24" with 10.6.2 it didn't matter whether I was using Safari or Foxfire the would both freeze and I get the maddening beach ball and have to force quit. Any ideas why this would suddenly start happening? I haven't done any thing special to the iMac as far as memory or anything. My laptop isn't doing it, just the iMac.

Feb 24, 2007I recently found out that my powerbook G4 that i had a bottle of coke spilled on it is insured under my uni insurance policy, and am about to send it in for repair/replacement.
My issue is that i have used my parents/girlfriends/my own credit cards on the machine for online shopping and would like to absolutely securely delete everything from the machine, and reinstall osx on it before giving it in for repair, in order to have peace of mind that my detials are not going to be used elseware.
I have a mbp and dont use the powerbook so it wont inconvenience me, and its hard disk is backed up to an external also, so there is no problems there.
I just need to know what i will need to do this and how it can be done?

Sep 29, 2010How do I go about deleting applications? I have two versions of Safari on my computer. Version 4.03 or something like that, and the new 5.02. I know I upgraded to the 5 when it came out and I had assumed I was running that since then. Turns out I've still been running 4, and was having an issue with the "New Tab" not working. Thats when I noticed I wasn't running 5. (if you follow me?)... I just redownloaded 5 b/c I thought it would overwrite the 4 version, but it didn't, now I have two Safari's and when I do a spot light search 2 show up as well with no indicator as to which is which. If it matters, I am running Snow Leopard with everything up to date (at least I think? considering I thought this was...)
