View 2 RepliesCould somebody tell me what that app is that I see running in many people's finder bars? It has the red and green bars on it running vertically. I can't figure out what it is. I've tried searching, mroogle, etc but when you don't know the name of it, it's pretty tough to find.

It thought they would only show up in iWeb but they are in Firefox and Safari as well. How can I get rid of them. I don't really want my site just in the middle like that.

I have a mac running OS X 10.4 We have one netgear router in the house where I work and various different things connecting to it. You'll have to forgive me, all my computer knowledge is based around systems running windows and while I enjoy my mac and can use it for work this technical stuff baffles me. I've just been given my own office. When in there, door open my airport fluctuates between 2 and 4 bars but web pages just don't seem to load, eventually timing out. I'm probably only about 30ft from the router but there are walls (and a mirror) in the way. Could this be the problem. From home I brought something in called Wi-Fire, it's a massive wireless dongle that has a range of 1000 ft. Would it? If so then how the hell do I get it to work on my mac laptop?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I just got my MacBook, mainly for school. The wireless service at my school requires a username and password so I went to the place and paid the 10 bucks for it. They said when you open up "Internet Explorer" (I chuckled) that a window would come up asking for your permission to continue or whatever and then you have to put in your username and password. When I join the network in Airport it says I have full bars however when I open up Safari or Firfox it instantly says that I'm not connected. What can I do so that it will ask me for my username and password so I can actually use the internet? I have gotten to the page where it asks me for my username and password before but I hadn't yet set up an account so I just exited out. Now I can't even get to that page! Hopefully there are some people out there that use the same type of wireless service at their college...

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have had my Laptop for over 3 years now and with really no significant problems. A couple of days ago though, my laptop display got 3 vertical black/white/black bars on the right third of the screen and I am just curious if it is dying. I am connected to an external display and it's been awhile like this, but it makes it impossible to use as a laptop anymore.

I have full bars most of the time at school but about 50% of the time there is no connection. On mozilla i get an error to contact the server administrator and i just get a no network on safari. I installed windows 7 and there is also full bars but no connection. My friends, who have PCs, connect fine. There s a dell netbook and a 50lbs Toshiba laptop.
View 8 Replies View RelatedYesterday my macbook's wifi started getting really slow to the point where it takes 10 minutes to load a webpage. I reseted my router and everything but it was still slow. Then I noticed that my iMac and Ipod touch had full internet speed and everything. What happened? I didn't do anything different from my normal routine at all.
I was running on old firmware for my macbook and decided to attach an ethernet cable to get the latest and greatest but it didn't fix the problem.
I have the white macbook and I got it a little less than a year ago. For the past week, sometimes when I go on the internet (firefox or safari) it just won't load. Like the blue bar that shows you how much has loaded isn't even visible and it will just say "connecting". But when I look at my airport icon that shows me how many bars of internet I have all the bars are full so I have internet connection. It is not just one type of internet browser because it does it on both safari and firefox. And it is getting really annoying because I will be browsing the internet and it just won't load or connect at all. Even if I wait.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a 19-inch Envision EN9410e LCD flat panel monitor. Right now I did a mirror display setup. The native resolution of this monitor is 1280 x 1024. When I went to System Preferences to change it to that resolution my LCD monitor shows the Snow Leopard desktop but it's in the middle of two black bars. I had to revert to 1024 x 768 resolution to not have the black bars show. Is there a way I can change it to the native resolution and not have the black bars on the top and bottom show up on the screen?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Win7 using 3 monitors, with Ultramon to manage the monitors. I want to switch to a Mac but am worried about the lack of a menubar on each monitor. On my Win7 PC, each monitor has it's own app running, maximized to the size of the monitor. So I'll have 3 instances of Firefox running, 1 on each monitor, or 2 Firefox and 1 Word, or Firefox, iTunes and Ableton Live each on it's own monitor. I want to do the same on the Mac and have the menubar for each program on each monitor. This question has been asked in the past, but all the discussions are older. Just wondering if there have been any recent developments or if anyone thinks this will be addressed in the near future. There's a program called Secondbar, but that only works on 2 monitors--it adds a second menubar. [URL]..........
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm using a MacBook Pro which was bought in 2007 and running the old OS X (i.e. the one before Leopard just because I've been lazy and haven't upgraded). My MacBook Pro has recently (as in the last few days) started freezing up. I'll be using it normally and all of a sudden it will just freeze and these strange shaded vertical bars appear across the screen. I then hold down the power button and reset it only to get a screen saying, "You need to restart your computer etc." I then restart the system and normally get this screen again a few times (infuriating) or I boot it in safe mode holding down the 'shift' key. I've run 'verify disk' as well as 'repair disk permissions'. I've also got a mate to check it and load it into Mac's version of 'DOS' and rebook it from there. He said he doesn't understand why I'm having any problems.
I've got a heap of disk space so it should be that. It was working fine all yesterday, and just again today has thrown in the towel on me again. Basically, does anyone have any idea what could be going wrong? I'm not putting it under any stress (i.e. demanding programs) and the freezing has been randomly occurring when I'm web browsing/watching YouTube or using Excel/Word. Should I backup my music, photos and essential documents and just wipe the thing clean and start over? I don't really want to do this as will mean I have the expense of getting an external hard drive and all that. I haven't changed anything or downloaded any programs recently that I can think would be causing these problems.
When I turn on my iMac the apple logo appears behind what looks like jail bars then a dark shade rolls down the screen then tiny squares appear all over screen with error message to restart if it fails to restart manually, which it does. Cannot get past this point.Tried command R to no avail.

After this 10.6 update I haven't been able to click in the scroll bars in iTunes to jump positions in the window. I have to use the arrows or trackpad/mouse scrolling. It's a small thing, but I have a lot of playlists and it's really annoying. I haven't had this problem with any other software. I'm running OS 10.6.8 on a Macbook Pro.

All the tool bars are ways too small. It's painful to read. I know there're ways to work around this problem such as decreasing the screen resolution, or use the Zoom feature. These are only workaround solutions because decreasing screen resolution makes pictures look less sharp, and the Zoom feature is not that fun to have all the times on your screen. It looks like Apple should come up with a permanent fix, as it is clearly not acceptable fix. Hopefully some Genius will come up with an App that offers a better resolution.

I just came inside after being outside for about 6 hours. When I opened my shell, there was no screen light-up, no keyboard lights, etc. I had already plugged into my power adapter and external hard drives (just as I always do). I punched keys, tried to use the trackpad - nothing. So I hit the power button for a few seconds. My screen came up seriously grayed out with 'indicator bars' (such as the ones that control brightness, sort of, but larger) at the bottom of my screen. Once they al went on, from left to right, my computer was awakened from it's normal sleep mode.

I run Microsoft OneNote side by side with some mac Apps and often find my self switching between the apps using Leopard spaces on my MBA which is annoying. I want to be able set an external LCD and assign that solely to OneNote, and simultaneously be able to access my OSX apps on my MBA's LCD. So each OS platform has its own window.
