Nov 4, 2010Can anybody help me as my download wireless speed is only 250kb but upload is ok with 1MB? Wired all is fine and I don't know what is wrong?

OS X :: High Speed Internet Now Gets Very Slow? - Wireless Connection
May 5, 2009I am using Windows right now. I never realized this but my download speed is supposed to be 768 Kbps. Though when I download something my speed is between 70 - 90 Kbps. Is this normal? I ran many virus scans and I am clean.Is there something that is slowing it down? I am also using wireless connection.

Jun 12, 2012I'm running the macbook pro 2,3 GHz intel core i5 version 10.6.8. Me and my friend are on the same wifi connection, but his macbook (thats 1 year older than mine) downloads 10 times faster. I'm getting around 0.24 Mbps while my friend gets around 1,8 Mbps. My internet is really slow and I have trouble opening a lot of internet sites. I wonder if ive done something to my settings so that the download limit is limited or something.

Jun 21, 2010I'm not sure if many others have found this problem but my internet has been suffering recently.
I took a speed test on speedtest.net which stated that my download speed was 9.7mbps which is what I'm paying for, but still my browsing speed is ridiculously slow on all websites.
I've tried using firefox and chrome but they all seem to be having the same problem.
I am connected by ethernet as airport has full connection but can't seem to load anything. I have also tried to configure my ethernet connection manually as i read that this would help the issue.

Aug 31, 2010I recently purchased my first Mac computer, a MacBook Pro with Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I receive free internet included in my apartment rent, and I don't use a router, instead I simply plug into the wall. I previously used a Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista and there was no problems. I am not very knowledgeable about computers really, especially when it comes to the internet. I need advice on how to speed my downloads, but speak to me like you would 2 y/o.
I can't seem to find anything that applies to me or I can understand. I'm currently using Transmission for torrents and Safari for browsing, but my general internet connection outside of downloads seems to be fine.
MacBook Pro :: Wireless Internet Slow Speed - Cannot Watch YouTube Videos
Sep 21, 2010I thought I fixed it with a wireless-n router and it worked perfectly till now. I was loading videos on youtube in seconds with no buffering and fully loaded, and could stream even 1080hd videos on there and other sites no problem. Now the MBP is going slow again, like there's this lag when browsing, and I can't even watch youtube videos anymore unless their 240p as anything else buffers every couple of seconds.
It's not the internet, as like I've said before I have an pc in another room across the condo on the wireless network and its blazing fast browsing and watching/streaming videos. I've seen other post about this lately and really leading me to believe these $ MBP just suck on wireless networks, b/c I can be right next to my router and no changes... and my girlfriends cheap netbook can stream videos faster with no buffering then my expensive piece of aluminum.
I saw someone else say enter this for DNS and I had already done that, so is something screwed up here?:

Nov 7, 2009I am a new Mac user. I bought a 27" iMac today to replace a dead PC. My download speeds are AWFUL on the Mac. While using the PC, my maximum download speed on a 6 mbit connection was over 850kb/sec. Now, with the mac, I can barely manage 250K/sec downloads. I am using all the same equipment and cables as before (not using the wireless, and I have it disabled), and if I plug in another PC into my router, it will get the 850+kb/sec download speeds, no problem at all. Is there a setting somewhere that I can change to get things working properly? Poor speeds occur no matter what program I am downloading from, whether it be Safari, FTP, or whatever. I just installed parallels, with windows, and I can download at my old speeds. How do I do it in native Mac mode then?

But then i got a feeling that my internet connection was slow so i tried "sudo IPFW pipe show" to see if i forgot to flush some pipes. It gave me an error message: ipfw: getsockopt(IP_DUMMYNET_GET): No buffer space available
Hardware :: Full Coverage But Slow Connection Speed Downstairs
Jun 17, 2010I live in a two-story apartment and my main connection is upstairs where the cable arrives and I have a time capsule to provide wireless connection. I can have connection even downstairs but in some places the level is very low so I have added a Airport Express. Now I have full coverage but the speed downstairs is very slow (perhaps less than half of the speed I have upstairs). Is there any way to tune the level of my connection? Any tool to verify there is the bottleneck?

Jul 9, 2009The iMac G3 is a 2002 model, has a 600 mghz processor and 1 GB RAM. It does not have an AirPort wireless card and Apple no longer manufacturers an AirPort card for this machine (which I bought used), so I bought a USB wireless adapter that appears to pick up a pretty strong signal from my Verizon FiOS router, strongest of course when parked next to the router. Unfortunately, I am only able to generate 3.5-4.2 mbps download speed no matter how close I am to the router, whereas the machine can consistently download at 12-15 mbps with a direct ethernet connection. The FiOS router can download at speeds in excess of 20 mbps. Is there some setting I'm overlooking that can improve the wireless connection speed or am I going to have to settle for wired use only?

So, would I be better off with an external hard drive(FireWire 800) that I can actually partition or get time capsule which offers the wireless connection. Jul 25, 2009I have tried internet speed tests on two laptops, one being a macbook and the other being a HP laptop running Windows Vista. I am meant to be getting 10mb download speeds and get it on the Windows Laptop using both ethernet and wireless connections, however when I use the macbook I get 10mb download speeds with Ethernet but not with wireless. I have tried changing the DNS servers to OPEN DNS on both my router and macbook but this did not help. How to fix this problem and get my wireless speeds the same as my Ethernet speeds. I am running Leopard 10.5.7 and upgraded a few days ago, I also used software update to update the rest of my software.

May 7, 2012I purchased OS X Lion this afternoon and started the download, 5 hours later it's only downloaded 1.5gb and it's saying it's got another 9 hours to go!!?? The App store is downloading at 105kb/s (that is Bytes per second, not Bits per second). If I download something from iTunes or dropbox I get about 800kb/s. Why is the App store so slow?

May 2, 2010i've got a 6 year old 12 inch powerbook G4 1.33 ghz that has internet speeds around 5177kbps, but overall its a bit dated sooo I wanted something a bit more new. I recently picked up a white 2.4 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook, HOWEVER the internet wireless speeds on it is dismal in comparison. I'm getting download speeds on average around 405kbps and upload speeds are pretty much non-existant! I've matched both of them to the same internet settings and they are both running 10.5.8. So again I'm stumped and if anybody can give me some idea as to what to do, Id greatly appreciate it!

Jul 15, 2009My Internet has just been upgraded from 2MB/s to 10MB/s. To confirm the upgrade I have used [URL:...] to test my upload/download speeds with Firefox and Safari. I have 2 computers on my network which consists of a cable modem connected to a white airport base station with 128 bit WEP encryption in 802.11 b/g compatible mode. The 2 computers are a dual 2.8 ghz MacPro which is wired directly into the Airport base station by Ethernet and an iMac 1.83 Intel core 2 duo. The much faster MacPro only achieves a download speed of 5.5MB/s over its wired connection while the slower iMac achieves 9.8MB/s - very close to the advertised speed over its wireless connection. These are consistent speeds not one offs so I am wondering why the difference? The MacPro is my main machine so I'd like to have the best speed possible on that. What can I try?

After the rearrange, now its on the opposite side of the room, and since then the iMacs internet connection has been unstable. It'll drop, randomly slow down to a crawl etc. My MacBook is fine, and so is my PS3, its just my iMac thats causing havok, all because I moved it from one side of the room to the other. I can't be because I've simply moved the iMac from one side of the room to the other can it? My MacBook can pick up a strong signal from the bottom of the garden, so the iMac really has no excuse.

Jun 13, 2012I have a 27 inch, mid 2011 imac. I bought it in March. It has started losing its wireless connection. The other issue is when it does connect it is very slow. I have a netgear modem, I dont think this is the issue cause the IPAD, and wireless laptop connect fine. I've also run a speed test, all wireless devices connect to 10Mbps and LAN devices connect up to 30 Mbps including the iMac when it is wired. Could this be an issue with the airport card? How would I know, how do I check? What should I do?Â

Apr 9, 2009I've got a real odd problem with safari 4. For some reason it is cutting my download speeds in about 1/2 from my server and many other places.
If I restart safari I will be able to download close to my 18 Mbps for a little bit but then it will just start to slow down and after about 30 minutes it will be down to about 6 - 8 Mbps.
MacBook Air :: Slow Opening Apps - Slow Read Speed?
Apr 17, 2009I'm finding my MBA rev b to be quite slow opening apps, I bought the 1.6 ghz 120gb model.
It seems like everything's rather slow to open. I have 30gb free on the hard drive, iTunes, Safari (5 tabs) TextWrangler and mail open all day.
If I ever need to go into Firefox it takes a fair while to get up and running. I ran some xbench scores and it seems very slow on the random reads, oddly it was much quicker writing to the disk than reading.
Is their anyone in the know who can confirm that this is normal? Or if not, is there anything I can do to give it a boost?
