I often find myself searching for a piece of text that I wrote myself within a webpage. For example, when writing a long email in gmail, I want to look for a certain word I wrote somewhere in the middle. Firefox dynamically includes all the text that is present on the page (as opposed to just what's in the source of the page) and I'm wondering if there is a way to do that with Safari.
View 1 RepliesEver since the last security update, I have been having trouble with the text in part of a web page becoming garbled. It happens when I am scrolling through a page. I can fix it by highlighting the text and it will go away. It remains legible after I take the highlighting away. It does not happen every time I scroll, but it does happen randomly throughout the day. I have owned my Macbook for almost a year and this problem has only come up since the last security update.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI appreciate Mail's efforts to streamline the inbox by grouping emails into conversations based on the subject. However, when I search for a specific string in an email, the search returns the conversation of grouped messages and does not indicate the specific point in the message containing the text. In the case that finally prompted this post, the conversation contained 50-odd emails, since all of them contained the appended text of all the previous exchanges in the chain. I am then left with the task of scanning through 50-odd emails, whether they be separate or all retained within a single message, for the particular string I'm after. And that defeats the whole point of searching to begin with.Â
So, am I missing some functionality that overcomes this? Really all I want is for the search to return not just the email, but the location within the email (or chain of emails) where the text is found. Returning 50 hits because each email contains the text somewhere in the lengthy history of the conversation, without actually showing me where in the conversation the text appears,
I don't get any error message, just a blank page showing nothing. I don't get no time-out message or anything. I have Mac OS 10.5.8 and Safari 5.0.2 and I have tried deleting the cookies and resetting the cache.
Besides I also noticed that while trying to load [URL] the page won't load but I can see the source code.
Everytime I go to the MLB page of ESPN, Safari loads the page, then beachballs. I then have to force quit the application.
This seems to happen on pages that have video.

I am trying to access a website [URL] and in Safari I receive "Safari can't find the server" error message. In mozilla I am able to goto the home page but if I click on any of the links I receive "server not found" error message. I have not run into this problem with any other sites and was wondering why this is happening.
View 7 Replies View RelatedOn Safari, it keeps giving me error messages saying "Safari Webpage Preview Fetcher has quit unexpectedly" and "QTKit has quit unexpectedly". Sometimes every few seconds. I tried using a "MultiSafari" v.4.0.5 and it does the same thing. I suspect it is because of deleting the contents of the Caches folder (which I do regularly, but never had problems with).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm fairly new to iMac, but with Windows XP, if you wanted to print only a paragraph or two from a webpage, you just highlighted it and hit 'print'.
So far with my 17" flat screen G4, when ever I do that I get the whole webpage no matter what. As a workaround I highlight the text in the webpage, copy it to the clipboard and then open 'text edit', copy it to there and then 'print'. This is Mac ! There must be a better way to do this.
How do I print highlighted text, and only highlighted text, from a web page?

On my mac mini (10.6, safari 4), random websites (the same ones every time) always shows random letters in place of normal text. I went to the same websites on my other mac (10.6, safari 4) and same thing happened. I tried on my mac running (10.3 safari 3) and it showed normal text.

Can anyone actually get this to work? I've never seen a website, Apple's included, that let's you do this feature. Yet it's listed on Apple's webpage.
Every once in awhile I'll go to a webpage (usually not the same one every time), and some of the text will be Scratchy looking (for lack of a better term). Kind of like those website verification systems where you have to type in the letters and numbers they give you, but there are lines scratched all over them so that bots can't read the picture and fill in the letters and text automatically. Here is a picture of what I'm talking about: The only thing that I can think of that might be causing this is that I have like 1,500++ fonts loaded on my computer and it might just be getting confused with all those fonts running simultaneously.

Let's say I load www.google.com, it appears in the safari window as usual.
Suppose I begin to type a search in the google search field at the top right of the safari window (not the one on the google page)
if when doing this the sentence is long for the search, at some point randomly, the rest of the text will be entered this time in the google search text field on the google page! (which is the very next text field) So when I hit enter it makes google search half of my request...
Safari changed the text field I was into with no warning. I want to say I do not press tab at any moment. This is annoying really, and this does not appear anywhere else than in Safari. It seems the issue is not systematic, but appears quite often.
I have no universal access setting except "enable access for assistive device" I had to check this box upon installing a software in the past but I can't remember what it was.Â
I'm trying to use Safari on Windows again now that a smooth scroll extension has finally been released. However, I have now encountered another problem and was hoping someone could point me to the relevant option or checkbox to make this work. I like to make the text size on different websites different sizes using Ctrl & +. That works fine. However, unlike Firefox, IE and Chrome, Safari keeps forgetting my text size preferences, so when I close it and then re-open it, every website where I've altered the text size has gone back to the default text size. Is someone able to tell me how to get Safari to remember these text size preferences?

I am now using Firefox as my main browser and the things that bother me are the lack of Mac OS X integration (drop down menus, text boxes, no bouncing download icons, etc) but I can live without them because for me Firefox is technically superior...
I still have the impression though that the text renders best on Safari. Am I wrong? It seems to me that the character spacing works better on Safari than Firefox, not that the latter isn't any good. This thing could make me return to Safari again, so now I am trying Firefox out for the next couple of days.
In the last 2 weeks, when I try to search - take for instance at Amtrack - I put in the date I want to travel (March 22) but when I click search it comes up with January 23 and then won't search because it is in the past.And it's not just with this website, I have other travel websites that act the same way.This is getting pretty annoying and as I am a secretary for about 6 people, I need to make travel arrangements, but I can't find an anwer.I cleared the cache and reset Safari and it didn't help.I checked to make sure my date and time settings were okay.

This does a Google search with the text you drop onto the icon.
Not sure if this is new with Safari 5 or has always been there.
In Safari 5, I've noticed that in the address bar, when you type "wiki" and then something after it, it'll search Wikipedia for that particular item. Is there any way via extensions, or something along those lines, to make it work similarly with other "keywords" or what have you? Chrome essentially works this way with any search engine you like, and it's literally the only reason I'm still on Chrome rather than Safari full-time. And before anyone mentions it, I know about Glims. But I don't just want multiple engines in the search bar; I really like the utility of just typing in the address bar.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with Google on safari Version 5.1.5 when I open a new tab with Google as the home page I can type what I am looking for, hit enter or the search button on Google and it dose nothing. The only way I can search for something is either using the small search bar in the top right of safari, or type what I want in to Google then click on Google images then click back to the search then it will finally search for it. It has just become a bit annoying and only started doing it the other day.

Safari and Chrome do not open web pages any more, even it is connected to internet. What can I do?, I have the FUSION installed in my Mac Book and I´m using it now, Chrome does get connected to internet from windows.

All that it shows are the thumbnails of the episodes and the text with some links and all of it is to the left of the web page, the background and other features such as their moving preview thing are not there.
