I am using the first version of Motion. I have some footage I shot and converted to a .mov file. I know Motion 3 does speed up footage but my version does not. Anyone out there know how to speed up footage using a low cost or free solution? This is the last thing i need to do to finish this project.I do not own final cut or quicktime pro. It is from a DVD that was filmed during a church service. The format shows up as .VOB. But it will not let me import this into iMovie to edit. What format do I have to have to import it and be able to edit? Does it have to be .avi? mp4?
I have a new panasonic HD camera that records full HD (HDC-TM200-K). What format do you recommend I import movies into iMovie? Full or the large options.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLike many of us nowadays, I own an AVCHD camcorder which works very well with iMovie other than the fact that the AIC files that iMovie creates are huge. This has prompted me to dedicate a firewire 800 external hard drive just for these files. I have my project files on my iMac internal hard drive, and the event files on my external firewire drive. All is fine and dandy, however I am wondering how to backup this external drive knowing that drives don't last forever.
My biggest concern is not only how to back it up, but really will a restore on a new drive actually work? The reason I ask is that the iMovie project files have instructions to point to the specific event files on the external drive. But if the external drive dies and a new one replaces it, how will the project files know where to point to? Would an exact clone of the original drive work (such as with SuperDuper)? Would it need to be given the same name as the original drive? What about a Time Machine restore on a new drive? Would that work, and if so, does the new drive also need the same name? Does the clone or new drive need to be Firewire 800 (same as my original) for iMovie to think it's the same? And if I want to buy a bigger drive at some point, I suppose I would need to migrate the event files from within iMovie, rather than through the Finder, right? I believe iMovie does this well, but if you go through the Finder, you're in trouble with iMovie?
I have backed up my original SD cards from the camcorder separately as disk images, but I would not want to have to reimport all the footage and then recreate all my projects (last resort)
I just bought final cut express about a week ago, and haven't used it yet.. There's a youtuber: [URL] Who does insane editing . He uses Sony Vegas. Is it possible to do this kinda thing in Final Cut Express? Also, in Final cut you have to Render every time you import or change something. It takes me hours trying to edit something. Do you have to render with sony vegas?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed the motion 3 dvd from the final cut studio 2 but i can't locate it anywhere in the applications or elsewhere. can't find in with search. when i go through final cut pro it also isn't available in send to menu, while color is.
I'm not sure if i'm missing something here. the installation went fine with a reboot. I tried re installing which also seemed like it happened without any problems but no traces of motion.
i have no clue where it is, unless it changed it's name and is hiding somwhere.
I'm trying to make a stop motion film where something floats around, so I went to Gimp and did the steps to erase the rig and I saw it was in iPhoto and it showed the floating thing on the thumbnail, but when I double clicked it to enlarge it, the floating thing just disappeared and I was left with just a background and no floating thing.

I was wondering why and how I can stop the fact that when I watch the DVD back, if I have used any slow motion in the movie that it goes all shaky and doesn't run smoothly at all. How I can stop it happening and make it so that slow motion runs smoothly once burnt on to the dvd? It plays fine during playback on the computer before I have burnt it on to dvd.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Panasonic Lumix DMC-Zs7, & I am reading about it's video formats. It shoots AVCHD lite movies and motion jpg movies. I would like to be able to burn these raw movie files unedited to blank DVDs, so my family can view them right away, in the excitement of filming, they are eager to see the results. They do not like to wait for me to do the complex & tedious process of video editing with titles etc, to play. Being able to just burn the raw files for immediate viewing relives me of the burden of complex video editing, of which I do not enjoy very much, & makes family happy, to get the video out of the camera to the DVD player & TV. We have a Philips DVD player that says it can play Divx movies, & an analog tube TV.
So is there a quick painless way that I can get the raw files out of the camera and onto DVD for viewing on a TV. Or is the raw material only viewable on the camera & computer?If the only way to get this material to DVD is by complex video editing, I could be stuck editing literally hours of footage that my family likes to film, they have the film bug, & like to film everything.
I have bought a macbook pro in the late 2009.. and its sudden motion sensor is repositioned (in version 5.3) and it works in the other way around.. when i try with programs that use the sensor to make sth.. like when you move right, the things going upwards.. and when you move in the y direction things are moving in the x direction..
So has anybody have this problem?
And i have been reading articles about new version Smackbooks which works with this version but nothing was helpful so far..

I run a Mac Pro 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual Core Intel OSX 10.5.8 and have been editing video with iMovie HD 5.0.2 for several years. I recently connected my Sony DVR-2100E camcorder to iMovie, imported and edited footage. When I tried to export the edited footage back to the camera iMovie refused to recognise either of my 2 camcorders and would not connect. Although I have iMovieHD installed I do not appear to have iLife. I also have iMovieHD 5.0.2 installed on my Powerbook. When I connect either of my 2 camcorders to the Powerbook they connect OK to iMovie but the moment I try to export any footage back to camera it immediately crashes and say's it has lost the connection. This happens every time. If I purchase the Snow Leopard upgrade for Leopard for $39 will it have iLife with a full version of iMovie included, or will I have to purchase a full installation version? I am hoping that a newer version of iMovie with iLife will solve my problems.

I have an imac 10.5.7 with 4GB and a 2.66 GHz processor. I have just installed Final Cut Pro 4 and I read that I should never use the Hard Drive as the scratch disk.

I´m completely new to the world of plug ins etc and has shot for the first time with a Sony PMW EX1. I now need to convert the footage to import it to FCPX. (I normally shoot with a DSLR so no trouble with import)
I have downloaded the PDZK-LT2 - Camera Import Plug-In Version 1.0 for Final Cut Pro X from Sony and opened the zip filed, moved what I got (file, dmg, zip and pdf) to the Application Support File in the Library. If this isn´t what I´m supposed to do - what and where?
Should FCPX recognise it when I want to import the footage and choose the plug in instead of the normal importer, or do I need to run it through the new plug in first, then import the new files to FC?? I can´t find any beginners info on this and it´s a bit lonely here trying trial and error with a tired head. I assumed it would just show up when I try to import it.

My life time stock of footage is at 3000 hours and counting. It is in numerous formats from film to DV Cam. I know that I must get all of the original material onto a single format digital medium. I suppose that DV tape is the most dependable media, and probably half of my footage is already in that form.
From there I need to catalog all of this stuff into a form that will allow me to search it using key words, phrases and directives (camera pans, tilts and zooms, close shots, mid shots, distant shots, and in certain cases, date and time of day, backgrounds, dominant colors and locations) etc.
My desire is to be able to write a scenario using the terminology and grammar created for logging, and have the program provide a shot list that considers the entire catalog, identifies where on each reel the shot resides, and groups multiple shots that satisfy the criteria, and perhaps give a video abstract of each shot. I see this as more than a thumbnail.
Some have suggested final cut server or Cat DV as likely programs. I prefer to edit using Final Cut Express. It seems to have all of the capability that I need for my projects. I am a one man band and I am making art movies without regard for producers or clients, so I really do not need to share the files.
I am on old guy and do not really have much time to put something together, ten or fifteen years if I am lucky. I do not want to spin my wheels very much with the set up.
I got a Sony HDV HC9 today and I'm trying to upload some footage into Final Cut Pro. Now every so often it's coming up with "DV device cannot be initialized". I have no clue why this is. Is it something to do with the iLink being on or off? I have the import settings as 1080i50i so that shouldn't be a problem. I think i'm just doing something silly without knowing but it's driving me mad.

Is this possible and how?
p.s. Note that i want to capture and write back to the tape the uncompressed dv format and not mpeg.
It worked fine before. My mac can still read all of the older footage, but it cannot read new footage. I know the video is there because i can veiw it with my camera's playback feature.

I need to edit together some video footage. I was going to digitize the footage on a PC (using adobe premiere) then edit it with Final Cut Express. I haven't purchased Final Cut Express yet, I'll only purchase it if I know it will work with footage digitized from a PC, does anyone here know if it's possible to use or import windows footage in to FCE? It will be saved as DV Avi files (I guess).

I'm sick of having to "down-convert" the footage to get it onto a DVD so others can view it, so I'm looking to buy an external Blu-Ray burner (external because I have a newish Macbook). It looks like I have three choices at this point: LG (model BE06LU11), LaCie (d2), or Buffalo Technology. Has anyone tried (and been successful) at accomplishing what I'm trying to do, and if so, with which burner?
