My computer specs are: G5 PowerPC, 2.0Ghz Dual core processor, 8 GB RAM, 256 MB Ati Radeon 9800 pro graphics card and Final Cut pro 6.0.6.
Now my friend is thinking of buying a Canon 60d and my computer is the one we always edit on. Will it be able to edit the footage if I converted it to Apple Prores (LP, HQ or standard)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI run a Mac Pro 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual Core Intel OSX 10.5.8 and have been editing video with iMovie HD 5.0.2 for several years. I recently connected my Sony DVR-2100E camcorder to iMovie, imported and edited footage. When I tried to export the edited footage back to the camera iMovie refused to recognise either of my 2 camcorders and would not connect. Although I have iMovieHD installed I do not appear to have iLife. I also have iMovieHD 5.0.2 installed on my Powerbook. When I connect either of my 2 camcorders to the Powerbook they connect OK to iMovie but the moment I try to export any footage back to camera it immediately crashes and say's it has lost the connection. This happens every time. If I purchase the Snow Leopard upgrade for Leopard for $39 will it have iLife with a full version of iMovie included, or will I have to purchase a full installation version? I am hoping that a newer version of iMovie with iLife will solve my problems.

I would like to record in preferably HD 720p if possible, but Standard Definition would be acceptable only if I can play the game in HD on my Television while it recorded in SD. I´m completely new to the world of plug ins etc and has shot for the first time with a Sony PMW EX1. I now need to convert the footage to import it to FCPX. (I normally shoot with a DSLR so no trouble with import)
I have downloaded the PDZK-LT2 - Camera Import Plug-In Version 1.0 for Final Cut Pro X from Sony and opened the zip filed, moved what I got (file, dmg, zip and pdf) to the Application Support File in the Library. If this isn´t what I´m supposed to do - what and where?
Should FCPX recognise it when I want to import the footage and choose the plug in instead of the normal importer, or do I need to run it through the new plug in first, then import the new files to FC?? I can´t find any beginners info on this and it´s a bit lonely here trying trial and error with a tired head. I assumed it would just show up when I try to import it.

My life time stock of footage is at 3000 hours and counting. It is in numerous formats from film to DV Cam. I know that I must get all of the original material onto a single format digital medium. I suppose that DV tape is the most dependable media, and probably half of my footage is already in that form.
From there I need to catalog all of this stuff into a form that will allow me to search it using key words, phrases and directives (camera pans, tilts and zooms, close shots, mid shots, distant shots, and in certain cases, date and time of day, backgrounds, dominant colors and locations) etc.
My desire is to be able to write a scenario using the terminology and grammar created for logging, and have the program provide a shot list that considers the entire catalog, identifies where on each reel the shot resides, and groups multiple shots that satisfy the criteria, and perhaps give a video abstract of each shot. I see this as more than a thumbnail.
Some have suggested final cut server or Cat DV as likely programs. I prefer to edit using Final Cut Express. It seems to have all of the capability that I need for my projects. I am a one man band and I am making art movies without regard for producers or clients, so I really do not need to share the files.
I am on old guy and do not really have much time to put something together, ten or fifteen years if I am lucky. I do not want to spin my wheels very much with the set up.
I got a Sony HDV HC9 today and I'm trying to upload some footage into Final Cut Pro. Now every so often it's coming up with "DV device cannot be initialized". I have no clue why this is. Is it something to do with the iLink being on or off? I have the import settings as 1080i50i so that shouldn't be a problem. I think i'm just doing something silly without knowing but it's driving me mad.

It is from a DVD that was filmed during a church service. The format shows up as .VOB. But it will not let me import this into iMovie to edit. What format do I have to have to import it and be able to edit? Does it have to be .avi? mp4?

It worked fine before. My mac can still read all of the older footage, but it cannot read new footage. I know the video is there because i can veiw it with my camera's playback feature.

View 3 Replies View RelatedLike many of us nowadays, I own an AVCHD camcorder which works very well with iMovie other than the fact that the AIC files that iMovie creates are huge. This has prompted me to dedicate a firewire 800 external hard drive just for these files. I have my project files on my iMac internal hard drive, and the event files on my external firewire drive. All is fine and dandy, however I am wondering how to backup this external drive knowing that drives don't last forever.
My biggest concern is not only how to back it up, but really will a restore on a new drive actually work? The reason I ask is that the iMovie project files have instructions to point to the specific event files on the external drive. But if the external drive dies and a new one replaces it, how will the project files know where to point to? Would an exact clone of the original drive work (such as with SuperDuper)? Would it need to be given the same name as the original drive? What about a Time Machine restore on a new drive? Would that work, and if so, does the new drive also need the same name? Does the clone or new drive need to be Firewire 800 (same as my original) for iMovie to think it's the same? And if I want to buy a bigger drive at some point, I suppose I would need to migrate the event files from within iMovie, rather than through the Finder, right? I believe iMovie does this well, but if you go through the Finder, you're in trouble with iMovie?
I have backed up my original SD cards from the camcorder separately as disk images, but I would not want to have to reimport all the footage and then recreate all my projects (last resort)
I just bought final cut express about a week ago, and haven't used it yet.. There's a youtuber: [URL] Who does insane editing . He uses Sony Vegas. Is it possible to do this kinda thing in Final Cut Express? Also, in Final cut you have to Render every time you import or change something. It takes me hours trying to edit something. Do you have to render with sony vegas?

My immediate issue is that I have been editing fine this morning and then all of a sudden I could hear the audio for my clips but I can't see the footage in the viewer or the canvas. I can double clip on each clip individually and see what the footage is however. I've shut my computer down a few times and its not fixing itself. Also a lot lately when I sit down to do some editing the footage flickers on one clip and wont proceed to the next clips footage but I can still hear the sound.
View 2 Replies View Relatedediting with FCPX. I imported the footage through Image Capture like I did when using iMovie. I then imported the footage from my desktop into FCP. When it's just showing the thumbnails, it looks bright, like it did on camera. But when I scrub through it, or play the video, it appears very dark. Almost like it's with a filter. I tried to mess around with the buttons near the view screen, but they didn't do anything. Is this a settings problem or a FCP problem, and how do I fix it?

My playback screen in the window and full screen plays back footage that does not fit the screen, i also exported a sample and the same thing happened where the video does not fit the screen.
