As a writer, I'm going to be using Pages on my brand new MacBook Pro 13" (I just switched from Windows) quite a lot, so it really ticks me off that whenever I insert text in a line in a paragraph, the line below it gets separated from the rest of the text instead of simply moving the text on the line I'm editing smoothly into the following lines.

I've started a new blank document from template chooser and everytime I type anything in a text box I have to highlight it so I can see it. It then comes up in purple but only when highlighted. The same happens with images. I'm running 10.6.2 on a brand new LED iMac 21.5".
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm in the middle of revision for exams and I'd like to be able to highlight certain portions of text in pages documents. Bold won't do, nor underline (they already have purposes). Can I highlight in Pages (say set a yellow text backgrond as I don't want to do print runs on my notes until I have to (and have reduced them down as much as possible).
The text color in iWorks Pages (08) seems to be inverted. Though the text colour is set to black all the text appears white. I couldn't find any way to change this "setting" so the colour appears normal again.

Thing is, I can view the document using QuickLook, no problem. Any way I can recover the text? (Tried TextEdit, Text Wrangler & BBedit, no joy). Why doesn't Pages keep backup / Autosave files?

I want to make a book with his photos, photos of him, his columns, articles about him, but I don't know how to get that stuff into the book--I'm such a novice at this. In MS Word, I would simply select the last part of the line and click the "align to right" button. But when I do this in Pages, it aligns the ENTIRE line to the right.
just a short question: Can anybody tell me a program/way to export my PAGES document to a PDF with all the used fonts and graphics embedded? I want that it looks exactely the same on e.g. a Windows computer on which the used fonts aren't installed. Unfortunately, even the Word exporting fuction of Pages doesn't seem very reliable - or do I do something wrong? I sometimes even lose bold/italic format etc. Very strange ... Anyway, I need a way to send somebody this text either as a Word or PDF file which won't make problems and look the same.

So, I'm still new to the whole Mac OS X happening, just got my MacBook about three of weeks ago (very happy with it ^__^). But, there's this little problem. I'm now using Microsoft Office 2008, and I often use Page Breaks. Previously, on the windows computer I used, I could simply press ctrl + return to insert a page break, but this is not a standard shortcut in the Mac version.
My solution - or at least, I hoped it would be a solution - was to use a custom shortcut for Microsoft Word via the System Preferences. I would like to set it to either ctrl + return or cmd + return, but it doesn't work.. However, when I try a shortcut like ctrl + cmd + down - or really anything without the return key - it works just fine. So, here comes the actual question; Is there any way to incorporate the return key within the shortcut?
Ohh, and now another problem comes in mind, I've got this Video_TS dir on my HD from a dvd which I tried to open, but when it's opened it simply 'plays' the menu. So I'm unable to actually select the option from it, and it simply goes to other part - like chapter selection - afterwards.It also plays little bits of the files, hangs for while, and skips a bit, then repeats the cycle.Anyone familiar with it? I use VLC Player Open Disk... with the Video_TS folder option.Ohh, and the files play fine on the windows pc next to me.. I realise this last question maybe should be in another topic, or has already been answered somewhere on the forum. But I did do a search for the first one, and couldn't find any information on it.
I got a 6gb file I need to send to my other computer since its I cant get the network configured and its too big for a dvd. Files that big wont be sent over aim or anything really. How on a mac I can break it down into smaller files? Its a .iso
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Word seems to be confused about what each type of spacing is. Today I had a double spaced paper written and started messing around with those view buttons on the bottom left corner. When I got it back to print layout view my spacing was much larger than before, but still said double spaced.
I realize that it is now correct and was too small before. I don't know why it changed, but when I open other documents it still has them as the small, incorrect double spacing and I can't figure out how to make them right. I've got the paragraph thing set to 0 and don't add space--that's none of the problem.
Is there a way for me to find a page break and replace it with paragraph instead in Word 2008?

Love it or hate it, I couldn't stand the all-gray iTunes and the vertical traffic lights. So I dropped a little script in the terminal and installed a modification to bring colour back to my icons. Now that iTunes 10.1 is out, does anyone have any experience with it breaking such modifications? I can't quite remember what it was I changed or I would experiment for myself. Unfortunately I'm tech savvy enough for basic trouble shooting and following explicit directions but not enough to know all the components of iTunes. I think I replaced a resource file of some kind.

Ever since upgrading to Snow Leopard and using Apple Mail, I have been getting the following error after a day or so of use: "Account exceeded bandwidth limits." Eventually I am able to access GMail via IMAP with Apple Mail, but only for about a day before this error occurs again. This doesn't affect my access to GMail via the web interface. Nothing has changed with my use of GMail since before the Snow Leopard upgrade and I've seen scattered reports of this on the 'net, but nothing that nails down a solid connection between the Snow Leopard upgrade and this error.

View 3 Replies View RelatedCurrently I'm trying to look up something in the SVN book on line, and it's all Greek characters. If I view page source, the characters are displayed in the proper font. Google searches show several others having this problem, but no one had a solution. Someone posted a solution here, but it was redacted for some reason and the only part that makes sense is that I should but a product called Suitcase Fusion. I refuse to pay money to make my Mac stop displaying characters in Greek font at random. In some circles that can be considered extortion.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a large text file, and I'd like to turn each page of the text file into a slide in a presentation (PowerPoint, I guess, though I'm open to alternatives as long as they're cross-platform and idiot-proof). Is there any way to do this using OpenOffice or NeoOffice? The text file is currently in RTF (TextEdit) form, so I can easily convert it to .doc or PDF. Formatting should be maintained, but it's nothing too complex; just some boldface and centering. I'm looking to make cue slides out of the lines of a play. I have all the lines, and I can re-paginate it easily enough, but I'm at a loss as to how to make slides out of it. I don't have the time/patience to manually create hundreds of slides and paste in each line one by one.

I've been having lots of issues with my iMac in the past week.Mail doesn't seem to be working correctly. I'll find messages that are many hours late. Messages that I see on my phone are not up to date on my iMac.We pages are showing up as script, no content, no pictures. Facebook shows up with no pictures.Memory isn't an issue and I've checked the internet connection and mail settings. I am also up to date with apple updates.
