I'm more than a little annoyed at this point with Microsoft Messenger 8. I absolutely cannot run a video call. When sent the invitation from a contact, I can answer, but there is no sound nor video. And when I send the invitation, it never arrives or loads. This has been going on for ages, and I am absolutely boggled as to what it is.
View 1 RepliesFor several days I have been unable to sign in to Microsoft Messenger. I have the leaked 8.0 version. I thought maybe it was a problem with the leaked beta but I can't sign in using aMSN either. I can sign in to web based substitutes like eBuddy, but it's still very annoying. Whenever I try to sign in on the actual application it just tries for awhile and then says the service is not available or you may not be connected to the Internet.

The other day I went to my mates house and noticed his looked very different, the one download off the MS website I presume.Is the difference just a theme or am I out of date? Because I still seem to be getting updates for my client, but his looks newer for some reason. So am I not sure. What is the difference?

The service is not available or you may not be connected to the internet."
I've tried deleting every trace of msn and reinstalling it, Which did not work. I've also tried upgrading to msn 8 beta (Which incidentally crashes when I try to open it) and downgrading to 6.0.3. Neither of these fixed the problem. I've tried resetting my router, which had no effect. I've tried disabling proxies but it turns out I don't have any so that's not the problem. I've looked at the firewall but msn is not blocked.
Other clients such as amsn and adium are not experiencing the same problem. Msn is working fine on my macbook and other windows machines in my household. It is just my Imac that seems to be having the problem.I have scoured the internet and nothing I have found has been of any use.

I deleted the preferences thing and repaired permission.
Please don't say stuff like, Use adium or aMSN etcetc.
I installed Microsoft Office for Mac 2008, but I really do not want or need Microsoft Entourage or Messenger. I have read that if you only uninstall part of Microsoft Office, it'll create problems with the other programs in the suite. How can I go about safely uninstalling these programs? Do I need to fully uninstall and then re-install? I made sure while installing Office to opt for a custom installation so I could un-check Entourage and Messenger. However, I didn't see those specific programs on the custom installation list. Are they maybe under a different name (like, for example, "Microsoft Essentials")? I don't know what to do. Help is much appreciated!

View 1 Replies View Relatedthe other day i downloaded the new msn (7.02) along with the new safary (4 beta), installed them and opened them.
msn didn't seem to be working (i couldnt open a chat window) so i quit. i then got one of those 'an error has occurred - report.. etc' messages. i clicked don't report and gave it another try. this time it opened properly and seemed to be working fine, except that every time i write to someone and clicked enter i have to re-click on the window to be able to continue writing, otherwise it just gives me error sounds. this is extremely annoying, especially since i'm practically anal retentive about my computer.
As of Monday 11th October 2010 Mac Messenger just stopped working on my iMac. I haven't added any new programs, messed with any setting or anything. My password is 100% correct and I am most definitely connected to the internet. All I get it the below pop up that states
"Sign in to Microsoft Messenger failed because the service is not responding. The service is not available or you may not be connected to the internet"
How do I call other computers? I'm able to call an iPhone, but not another computer.

I'm a first time iMac and skype user. I downloaded skype 2.7 earlier today and managed to do a video call for 30 minutes without any problems. However, after trying to use it again 3 hours later, my iMac keeps shutting down everytime I make a video call. None of my video calls last more than a minute before my computer shuts down. I tried reinstalling skype from scratch again but t didn't work. Even the beta version failed to solve the problem. I'm new to both iMac and skype.

And besides that I can�t get video calls, or at least share web cam with anybody any more, either it will crash or I�ll be able to see the other person, but the other person won�t see me.I�ve updated to the latest 0.98 version, but no luck whatsoever. Does anybody know when Microsoft plans on releasing a newer version of Microsoft Office for Mac? One of my co-workers currently own the 2008 version and he's really unhappy with it. He has an excel file that's around 4MB in filesize, containing some 11,000 rows and a bunch of columns too and it's really slow to work with (he has a 1 year old MacBook Pro) and some times excel also "runs out of memory" it says and the application just freezes. It should be updated properly etc, but I wonder if maybe a newer version more suited for Snow Leopard, might be released soon?

I got the new Office 2011 so the new MSN Messenger 8 was included. I've tried everything but nothing works. I can't connect. It'll just say "Sign in failed because the password is incorrect or the sign-in name does not exist. If you have forgotten... blah" I know the password and everything is correct since I can sign in on my windows computer. I've tried using another account and it doesn't work either. I would use Adium but I really dislike the style along with many 3rd party clients. I had MSN 6 installed and that worked fine.

View 24 Replies View RelatedNew Macbook Pro owner.Been using PCs for years.Along with this I have a 10 year old MSN Messenger account.I see Mac for Messenger automatically came with the Mac or Leopard.
In any event I have, over the past 3 days, tried signing into to my MSN Messenger numerous times and each time am told my password or user name is incorrect althogh I have double checked and triple checked many times.So it wont let me on BUT I can sign into Windows Live using the same password.ID info.
I have taken down my firewall, put it back up, thinking maybe that was the problem to no avail.
I have even changed my password twice waiting up to 24 hours to try again and just now for the 5th day in a row it tells me it is wrong when it ISNT. I really do need to get online with it now after being off for several days with this.I just checked yet again and see now that I still cannot log on but can on the web in Windows Live alhtough I sign out of that so it wont interfere.
I AM STUMPED and no longer know what to do next short of just getting a whole new identity but I have used this for 10 years with no problem up until now so a name/password change but I would rather not have to get a new one but just want to be able to log on to Mac Messenger ASAP.
i have messenger for mac 8 beta as i need the video calls option but the annoying problem is is that it keeps freezing in mid-use and is getting on my nerves, i have reinstalled it but that's about it.
