I can't use the preset display picture.
I can't set my own display picture.
It gives me this error.
I deleted the preferences thing and repaired permission.
Please don't say stuff like, Use adium or aMSN etcetc.
I've recently did the switch to Mac (and I love it!). But I'm having an issue with MSN Messenger for Mac [7.01], and I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on how I could fix this.
Anyway, when I go to change my Display Picture, I choose the display picture, however it won't let me click OK. It's highlighted blue, and I can click on it, however it just won't accept. Its like if I was clicking on a grayed out option, yet it isn't. It could just be a simple setting, I've no idea.
Anyway, I'm running it on an Early 2008 MacBook / 10.5.6.
I scaled it down several times from 1024x1578 (roughly) to 128x178 (roughly) and tried each one, also tried as PNG or JPG, it just said "The selected file could not be imported to be used as your display picture. Please make sure that the file is a valid picture format."...
I can't think of anything other that it might require than format & size.
(note, it also won't let me change display picture to any of the other default pictures it has)
i am unable to choose a display picture of myself to put on msn.
i get an error that says wrong file format.
is there something hat im suppose to do?
I'm using mac messenger 8 beta right now and this problem occured. Anybody know how to fix this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAs of Monday 11th October 2010 Mac Messenger just stopped working on my iMac. I haven't added any new programs, messed with any setting or anything. My password is 100% correct and I am most definitely connected to the internet. All I get it the below pop up that states
"Sign in to Microsoft Messenger failed because the service is not responding. The service is not available or you may not be connected to the internet"
I'm more than a little annoyed at this point with Microsoft Messenger 8. I absolutely cannot run a video call. When sent the invitation from a contact, I can answer, but there is no sound nor video. And when I send the invitation, it never arrives or loads. This has been going on for ages, and I am absolutely boggled as to what it is.

I thought maybe it was a problem with the leaked beta but I can't sign in using aMSN either. I can sign in to web based substitutes like eBuddy, but it's still very annoying. Whenever I try to sign in on the actual application it just tries for awhile and then says the service is not available or you may not be connected to the Internet.

The other day I went to my mates house and noticed his looked very different, the one download off the MS website I presume.Is the difference just a theme or am I out of date? I've tried deleting every trace of msn and reinstalling it, Which did not work. I've also tried upgrading to msn 8 beta (Which incidentally crashes when I try to open it) and downgrading to 6.0.3. Neither of these fixed the problem. I've tried resetting my router, which had no effect. I've tried disabling proxies but it turns out I don't have any so that's not the problem. I've looked at the firewall but msn is not blocked.
Other clients such as amsn and adium are not experiencing the same problem. Msn is working fine on my macbook and other windows machines in my household. It is just my Imac that seems to be having the problem.I have scoured the internet and nothing I have found has been of any use.
I installed Microsoft Office for Mac 2008, but I really do not want or need Microsoft Entourage or Messenger. I have read that if you only uninstall part of Microsoft Office, it'll create problems with the other programs in the suite. How can I go about safely uninstalling these programs? Do I need to fully uninstall and then re-install? I made sure while installing Office to opt for a custom installation so I could un-check Entourage and Messenger. However, I didn't see those specific programs on the custom installation list. Are they maybe under a different name (like, for example, "Microsoft Essentials")? I don't know what to do. Help is much appreciated!

Anyways she wants to keep her emails- I exported everything alright, then imported on the new mac but the dates are screwed up. View 1 Replies View RelatedA few months ago I noticed that the messenger will not keep my display name anymore. Every time I log in I have to retype my name. Also, it doesn't save the personal messages for contacts to see. No one can see my display pictures anymore. In addition to that, I have problem communicating with people who has yahoo messenger. I don't receive messages from them sometimes or I can see them typing but nothing shows on my screen. Does anyone have the same problem or I am unique?

For some reason, on Mac:Messenger, I can not see all my contact's display photos. I see very few of my friend's display photos, all others just display as the green msn man.
I've looked into the cache folder of M:M, and there are a lot of display photos in that folder, which belong to my friends, however they're not showing up in the actual program. I can only see like 10% of my friends's display photos in the application.
I can set my own display photo fine. However, after a certain amount of time, a random time, my photo will stop showing up in the window, and I have to reset my display photo again. The image is 150x150 pixels, and is 147kb. It's a bit annoying.
My messenger (8.0 beta) dosen't display custom emoticons, also i can't see the display pictures of other people ..
Emoticons are enabled in Preferences
Continually reverts to email address, and refuses to display a picture.
I know there are previous threads on this, but I've even tried installing the latest beta/nightly build. My friends are getting fed up. I don't notice a difference, but they do!
I can't see other people's display pictures using MSN messenger on my MBP... I've enabled all the options for this, is it a known issue, and is there a fix for it? I've tried other messenger applications, and I don't really like them.

I'm using Yahoo Messenger for Mac version 3.0 beta and recently my display images have stopped displaying when logged in or when I open a chat window.
When not logged in and I am selecting a user the display images show, but they go out as soon as I login to any name. When I go to the window to set my browser image, the image field displays blank even after I try reloading the image. I have trashed my Preferences and that doesn't work.
New Macbook Pro owner.Been using PCs for years.Along with this I have a 10 year old MSN Messenger account.I see Mac for Messenger automatically came with the Mac or Leopard.
In any event I have, over the past 3 days, tried signing into to my MSN Messenger numerous times and each time am told my password or user name is incorrect althogh I have double checked and triple checked many times.So it wont let me on BUT I can sign into Windows Live using the same password.ID info.
I have taken down my firewall, put it back up, thinking maybe that was the problem to no avail.
I have even changed my password twice waiting up to 24 hours to try again and just now for the 5th day in a row it tells me it is wrong when it ISNT. I really do need to get online with it now after being off for several days with this.I just checked yet again and see now that I still cannot log on but can on the web in Windows Live alhtough I sign out of that so it wont interfere.
I AM STUMPED and no longer know what to do next short of just getting a whole new identity but I have used this for 10 years with no problem up until now so a name/password change but I would rather not have to get a new one but just want to be able to log on to Mac Messenger ASAP.
My Safari works perfectly fine until I log into Facebook (this problem started to happen about a month and a half ago) - it will freeze on me and I have to force quit Safari. Is there any way I can fix this problem on Safari? I've noticed that my friends MacBook as well as my parents MacBook don't have this problem...
As for my MSN... only pictures taken from Photo Booth will work as my display pictures and I don't receive notifications when contacts sign online (even though I have that preference checked off in alerts to alert me).
everything in my msn messenger works fine until I start having a conversation with someone. After I send a message I need to click on the message area every time I want to respond.
It gets pretty frustrating. I was thinking it might have something to do with the safari 4 beta? Just wondering if anybody knows what might be wrong.
My messenger for mac is acting weird, all my contacts are blocked, I can't unblock them and also appears this window that tells me that a contact added me to his/her list, the problem is that it happens with all my contacts, even when I accepted them all, the problem persist, and not even adium or mercury has worked, someone has a tip?

They finally made the video call option available in this version but only in the corporate account. Here is my problem, I can connect normally to msn but only in my personal account not the corporate.
Once I try to connect to the corporate account, it acts like if it was not connected to the internet at all (even thou it is) and prompts me this message:
Sign in to Microsoft Messenger failed because the service is not available or you may not be connected to the Internet.
Not sure what's going on, but my Adium is unable to connect to Yahoo Messenger since 2-3 days ago, it's working fine in the past months, and I don't think I made any change recently. MSN is working fine though.

msn didn't seem to be working (i couldnt open a chat window) so i quit. i then got one of those 'an error has occurred - report.. etc' messages. i clicked don't report and gave it another try. this time it opened properly and seemed to be working fine, except that every time i write to someone and clicked enter i have to re-click on the window to be able to continue writing, otherwise it just gives me error sounds. this is extremely annoying, especially since i'm practically anal retentive about my computer.
I'm trying to find a solution to an issue a family member it having with Yahoo Messenger and an iMac. The computer is an early release aluminum iMac, running Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11. Yahoo Messenger is the most current version installed. A transparent image of the Messenger icon is on the dock and seems to be stuck between the dock's line near the trash can. It won't delete, even deleted the normal version of Messenger, shut down the computer and restarted it. The image was still on the dock. Are there Messenger files in other folders, that somehow didn't get deleted when the application was deleted, causing this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to Snow Leopard, I can no longer import P2 footage. I get the stop sign and error: no data.In the import window I can play the clip and everything is fine, but when I add to the clip to the import queue it just times out.
Any thoughts? Is it somehow related to Quicktime being updated by Snow Leopard?
