View 2 RepliesMy wife's macbook monitor is destroyed due to happy 2 year old. It won't be worthwhile to replace the monitor and it is not fixable without some expensive work being done on it, therefore I would like to use our TV as an external monitor and retire the macbook to being a mediia computer. I have connected it to the TV, and I see an empty desktop, as far as I can determine it looks like it is treating the TV as a secondary display - that the desktop is extended onto - so I cannot actually interact with the normal desktop. When I try to run things using keyboard shortcuts I hear some sounds of things starting, but I don't see anything on the TV. So what I need to do is to have some way to tell it to treat the secondary display as the primary display.

Is there a way to make another player as a default instead of Quick Time Player? It seems like the player doesn't support international dramas.

I'm trying to figure out how to make my external monitor primary in Boot Camp for my Windows XP SP 3 partition. The "Use this device as the primary monitor." button is blanked out, meaning I'm unable to click it. This was the same with my last laptop (Dell Inspiron 6400) but I solved that problem by closing the lid. With my MacBook, when I close the lid the screen does not transfer everything to the larger monitor but simply leaves the screen on.

I recently bought a Time Capsule and already own the previous version of Airport Extreme (not dual band, but n/g/b)
I want to make the Time Capsule the primary base station and the Airport Extreme the extender. I have both n and g devices hitting my network.
For the best network throughput, I need to make the Airport Extreme just g only, correct? If I don't, the network performance will "downgrade", correct?
Don't say VLC. VLC chokes this machine to death. 95% CPU usage. Frame rate is one per second. AVI files need to be played. Are there any codecs I can use with Quicktime v6.5? Or how about a different player? Quicktime seems to run smoothly on this machine. .MOV files play nicely. DVDs play fine. Can't do flash unfortunately.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have many videos that I have downloaded, ripped, and captured overtime. Some of which I would like to be able to burn to a DVD for personal use or to give to family and friends. My problem comes when trying to burn a certain video file formats to a DVD, one especially that will playback on a standard DVD player. The types of files I am interested in converting to DVD-playable are: .m2ts, .avi, .mp4, .mpeg, .mkv. Again, I would like to convert these movies, then burn them to a DVD to easily watch them on my home theater system's DVD player. So I beg the question, "Is this all possible?", "What file formats are commonly used to play from DVDs on a DVD player?" and "Are there any freeware based applications to get this job done?"

View 2 Replies View RelatedAs many of you may or may not have realized, iTunes has an annoying habit of not letting one import any video files not in "iTunes friendly" formats. This confounded me as iTunes presumably used Quicktime for playing... so if Quicktime+Perian/Flip4Mac can play them, why can't iTunes? Sick and tired of having to convert AVIs and other downloaded video types for the sake of having them in iTunes, I sought out a way of fooling iTunes via tweaking the File Type / Creator settings on files so that iTunes would accept them.
Start out by choosing the app/utility of your choice. I use FileBuddy (search here for it) but any number of utilities are capable of doing the job.
I then open up File Buddy, drag the video file/s into the main window and then click "Get Info". In the resulting window, near the bottom right is a pull-down menu labelled "Type". Whatever it is currently set to (in my AVI case, it was "VfW"), change it to "MooV" and click "Save" (or "Change All" if you are dealing with multiple files). Voila! Drag the old files into iTunes and there you go!
I'd like to send a colleague a keynote on a DVD. I thought it would be cool to see me at the same time in a small frame presenting the keynote live, like the feature in ichat theater. I looked in iMovie and in Keynote but didn't find anything.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I sync one audio file with one video file the video file is always placed in the primary storyline and the audio file is always placed under it. And the new syncronised clip is named afte the video file.
when I sync multiple audio files to one video file. It seems to be random what file endsup in the primary storyline of the new compound clip, most of the time is seems to be one of the audio files. This is troublesom as the syncing acuracy is then limited to the frame as the smallest incrament of adgustment. Also, it menas I have to manualy change the names of my now syncronised clips as the names are not consistant making sorting dificult. (This all results in a lot of time spent fixing this behavoir and realy dampens the advantages of the sync feature.)
the video should not be the primary track in a new syncrosnised compound clip and I can't find any link between my behavoir and the resulting choise of which tile is the primary sortyline track.

I have a fresh install of Windows XP, service pack 2 on a boot camp partition on my macbook (13" first gen aluminum case) and a Apple LED Cinema Display attached to the mini display port.
I can't seem to make the Cinema Display the primary display (the "Use this device as the primary monitor" checkbox is always greyed out in the Display Property Settings tab). I also can't shut the macbook lid and continue to use it closed (with kb, mouse and monitor attached) like I would when booting OSX.
Is there some other way to make the Cinema Display the primary monitor, so I can leave the macbook closed when booting into Windows?
