View 3 Replies View RelatedMy daughter has just moved out and so now has her own internet and email address. Yesterday she was setting up all her new email addresses. Because she was having problems with setting up one of them, she deleted the old account even though it will still be active for another week or so and then recreated it. Now she cannot access any of her old emails from that account. The message she receives "This message from _____ has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." There are no emails left on the server and they are not on her online account either. She has some rather important emails in there. Is there anyway she can access them?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMail is running in the background, but it won't quit or open. I need to reboot (i.e. hold down start for 10 seconds) to restart. Other applications are also very slow to respond during this, incl. Safari. I'm on a Late 2007 Macbook running 10.6.2, which I updated yesterday.

I launched Mail as I ordinarily do. It opened up, but the header bar was grayed out. Finally I managed to open program via Message/Go To/ Inbox, but no messages appeared in any of my mailboxes (even though I had several still in there from today). Nothing is happening, I even can't quit teh mail program.

Had my iMac for two years with no issues. Didn't change any settings, nothing.Tried to open mail. It bounced like it was going to open, then nothing. I've tried several searches for info with one involving opening in safe mode, but I'm not sure if I did it right and, needless to say, it didn't work.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have Office 2008 Home and Student installed on my MBP. I recently upgraded to a hosted Exchange solution and they offer a download of Entourage 2008 that will allow Exchange Server interaction. When I loaded that version over top of my install, Entourage will not open. It gives me an error about the identity not being able to open the item.
I have macBookPro 15''. When i open my applications, they open separately.
for example, if i am using safari and decide to open itunes the two doesn't overlap. And i want them to overlap. its annoying when im on aim and skype and i have to click the icon every time when someone talks to me. But i can make the applications open overlapping "holding alt/option key and clicking the application at the same time". but this is really annoying.
I'm getting this damn message every time I try to open an app. Every time I open Firefox for instance, I'll get this message...no matter how many times I click on "Open". Can someone help? FYI, I recently bought a 27" iMac and I did download all my apps and installed them instead of migrating using Time Machine.

I bought the 13-inch i5 Macbook Pro about 3 or 4 weeks ago, and it is Lion. Mail would crash, even when just opened. I have never sucessfully opened Mail on my computer. The mail didn't crash in the middle of reading emails, when I click the icon from the Applications folder, the dock would budge a bit but the Mail Icon would not appear. If I try to re-open Mail, the icon will bounce for a few seconds then do the 'Quiting' animation and sink back into the dock.
I tried these solutions, but none of them worked.
Deleting the files in the V2 folder in ~/Library/Mail
'Get Info' the Mail App and clicking the little lock thing on the bottom
Deleting all the things in Mail Folder
Use SpeedMail

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a mail attachement with the extension .gem, and I would like to use that attachment as the argument to a java .jar program. I've figured out how to start the java program using a shell script like this:
#!/bin/bash
java -jar /Users/geoff/Programs/program.jar $1
If I name this script program.sh and change the permissions to allow execution, I can successfully run the program by typing this in a terminal window:
./program.sh filename.gem
However, when I try to open the attachement filename.gem from mail, it won't let me use program.sh to open the attachment. The OS seems to make a distinction between a file and an application that is independent of the execute permission on the file. After doing some reading about this, I tried Automator. One of the Automator actions is to execute a shell script, so I added that action to my Automator project and typed in my command:
java -jar /Users/geoff/Programs/program.jar $1
I also changed to input from options from "stdin" to "argument". I then saved the Automator project, and was able to associate that project with the .gem file attachment from mail. The java program started, but behaved as if the $1 argument was not included. (Perhaps I just need to leave out the "$1" in my Automator command, trusting Automator to insert the argument in the proper place. If that theory is correct, my program is interpreting the text "$1" as an argument, which would be consistent with the behavior that I'm seeing.) I've seen other suggestions to use AppleScript, but it seems to me that there ought to be some simple way to do this. (I just got a Mac, by the way. I was able to do this in Windows using MIME type definitions and a .bat file. The difference is that Windows allowed me to consider program.bat as an executable, but Mac OS doesn't consider program.sh to be an executable.)
Why do attachments rec'd on my mac (10.4.11) through aol have to be downloaded before being opened? Then you have to open a zip file or open a variety of folders before you get to the item sent. Other computers allow you to just click on the attachment and the file opens immediately.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am running OS X 10.4.11 on an iMac PowerPC G4. After restarting following a power outage I found that I cannot open iTunes 8.0.2 or Mail 2.1. When I try to open from the dock or applications folder the icons bounce a few times and then stop. I have run Disk Utilities and repaired permissions and verified the disk. I have also uninstalled and then reinstalled iTunes without success.
