Is there a good guide to having your ITunes library on multiple macs? I have found a couple of links and some stuff here but none of them seem very good, as they use third party software (Dropbox) or Automator scripts that you have to run everytime you open your library.
View 2 RepliesI have two Macs, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini.I have all my music on MacBook Pro. I want to be able to access iTunes from Mac Mini. But I don't like Home Sharing, because it doesn't really sync my music, and that route keeps two separate libraries.
When I'm home, both Macs are connected to the same network. I want my Mac Mini to access MacBook Pro's iTunes Library, update new music from Mac Mini which gets reflected on MacBook Pro. So that if I consolidate the file from Mac Mini, it gets put into the hard drive of MacBook Pro.
I understand what I'm trying to do, doesn't actually put physical files on Mac Mini. If MacBook Pro is not in the network or is turned off, that I wouldn't be able to access MacBook Pro's iTunes Library.
I don't want to use any third party applications to "sync" my music. I want to be able to do it by using File Sharing and such.
I have a MBP and a MacMini. I wish to have my iTunes library stored on an external HD (which I will share on the network) connected to the MacMini.
I would like to see this same library on my MBP (presumably just point the iTunes on the MBP to the networked external HD for the iTunes folder??).
But now I wish to ensure that any changes made on one machine (additions, artwork update, playlists etc) are synced and show up on the other, and vice versa.
This should be applicable to both content purchases on iTunes and my own content ripped from my CD collection.
I want to manage 2 iTunes library on my Mac, one for my musics and the other one for my Podcast, ITunes U, Movies and TV Shows. The reason why I want to do this is because I keep my songs on my Mac HHD and the podcasts and video files on my External HHD. I built these two libraries, the podcast library is setted to copy the files directly into the EHD iTunes folder, and my songs library don't, I manage it myself. The problem is that when I quit one library and open another, the preferences are imported, they have the same preferences. How do I manage to keep one preference in one library and another preference in the other?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently decided to delete all the iTrip stations from my library but I couldn't left click/drag to select them all because you can't.
Command 'a' doesn't help either because it selects all the songs in the library, where as I only wanted to select certain ones.
so here's the deal. I have an 80GB drive in my MacBook, which is currently where my iTunes lib resides.
I also have a 250GB external drive. What I want to do is keep my music on my laptop, but store movies and TV shows on my external drive, yet still be able to access them along with my music... know what I'm saying?
I have my iTunes library stored on a NAS, UNRAID, and I currently do not have my files copied into the iTunes library. They reside on the UNRAID in a movies and movies folder, so the iTunes library itself is fairly small.
However, this is what I would like to do. Since I have several AppleTV and several other Macs running. I'd like to keep one Mac on 24/7 and have iTunes open all the time pointed to my NAS iTunes.
I have iTunes set to rip at lossless, which is fine, as I am willing to add terabytes of storage to my library if necessary. I have a 120 gig classic, I don't mind the fact that I can fit less songs in a higher quality bitrate on this device. I also just got a 8 gig nano, and I would like to upload everything onto it in 128 instead of lossless. I don't want to convery my who library as I would prefer to preserve it is lossless.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac Mini, which I primarily leave running to access any files I store on it with my macbook pro being my main machine for daily use.
I will download/buy music on the Pro and will sometimes be a little while before synching it to the Mini via "Home Sharing". Now I have to do this manually right now, but is there a way to setup a script to automatically run on a scheduled basis on the Mini to check for media not in the Mini library and download them automatically from my macbook pro? I only have the two macs using Home Sharing.
I tried looking at scripts, but I saw stuff from using rsync, not sure if automating syncing via Home Sharing would even work by using an applescript of some type or if rysnc is what I would want to use.
I'm sure this has been asked but I've looked through many of the pages on the news stories, and I've also looked on the OSX forums from today and didn't find anything, so . . .
I have three macs. An iMac for home, a personal MBP I use at work, and a mac mini connected to the TV. If I download an app from the Mac App store, will that work on all three of my computers? It appears to be setup similarly to the iTunes store, that each purchase is connected to your itunes account. If this is that case, then wouldn't one purchase work on all machines?
When I buy a movie from itunes I can play it on any computer (up to 5), along with any ipod, iphone, ipad.

My buddy and I are setting up an account for our business and we want to be able to retrieve mail using the same gmail account. I would like to set up one ITunes Library so both of my computers can access it. Furthermore I would like to be able connect my IPhone to any of the computers in the house and sync my music, podcasts and applications as normal. Here's what I've tried so far (which worked with my music, but didn't work with podcasts and IPhone application, etc).
1. Copied all the music to my Mac mini.
2. Opened iTunes Preferences and pointed my library to the 'Music' my NAS drive.
3. Went to File > Library > Organise > Consolidate Library.
Now my NAS iTunes library has all my music, but has no library file or XML file in it. Plus if I add ratings to any of my music, the information is not transferred over to my other computer.
sync my ipad, ipod touch and iphone to the computer and i will be able to sync the songs to all them devices?
View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst one was a portable 500gb freeagent, and also I put it in a folder in my 1.5tb time machine drive. Tonight I am updating the second, and I think I'm noticing a problem, but not sure. First of all, when I move my library locatation in preferences to the ext. drive in preferences, and do consolidate library the "info" on a few of the songs still shows a filepath leading to the built in hard drive on my mac (the original library). Also, when I perform the Library>consolidate library function it seems like it copies all of the files that are already on the drive, too. So they only appear in itunes once but they appear in the actual folder more than once, in appended form. Anyone else think this is unnormal. How do you manage a library on mulitple drives? The original reason I did this was to clear some space on my macbook's hard drive, but I'm always too scared to delete the files on it.

The goal: To have all computers in the house use the same itunes library. Now the new ReadyNAS by NetGear has the option to put all the itunes music on there, and it shows up on the network as a shared library. Is there a way for multiple computers to share the same library on a external hard drive, or in this case, time capsule. I can see where a networked itunes library (like a shared computer) would work just fine for playing music, but you run into problems when say, you want to transfer songs to a ipod, iphone, etc.
One option would be for one of the computers be the main music server, and have that computer be the one to do the music transfers, but what if that computer is off. Multiple computers on same network, sharing same itunes library, but still able to manipulate the files?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI work for a media company, we hire out our stock of macs to clients and they often come back full of unwanted files and applications, we want to create a single backup on our network that we can automatically sync our macs to when they come back from a job, so it gets rid of all the extra files and resets back to just being the software we want. Then when software updates come out we can just update the 1 backup and it will sync to all the macs. Is this possible?

View 16 Replies View RelatedI've had a MacBook Pro for some time, and am now wanting to sync all my programs (preferably without mobileme).
Many years ago, I was able to network multiple mac computers and have each of those macs draw their information from a common file on the server. For example, the mail program on each computer would reference it's mail file in the library which was an alias that pointed to the actual data file that was stored on the server. This was an easy way of linking the email, so when mail was altered on one computer, the changes were made (in essence) to all computers.
I would like to do that with my iMac and MacBook, but also the music library, iCal, Address Book etc.
Is there a way to set my Time Capsule up as a server to handle something like this?
I have a new 27"iMac following a smashed screen on my old 24" iMac. I have the time machine backup luckily!
But I have also managed to fix my old 24" with a replacement LCD panel.
So my question is this:
How do I restore from time macine to both iMacs so I have all my iTunes films & music on both machines? I also want to put all my iTunes on my Dads new iMac which is in a different house of course.

id like the notes i take in class on the mbp to sync with the imac when i get home. Id like my picture folders, design work folders, and documents folders to be in sync on both computers whenever im home.
if i add new pictures on the mbp, take new notes, or work on a .psd file.
I want them available on the imac without me having to manually bring them over and vice versa.
i just need a way for the folders to sync whenever im home.
that way when i do a back up on my imac, it also has a back up of the folders on the mbp.
I am planning to use a 1TB network hard drive (NAS) to backup all three of our Macs. Will Time Machine from three different computers share this storage space, or do I need to partition the drive into three pieces so each computer has their own separate volume?

When computer one is playing music to the speakers, I'll be using computer two for work purposes. I have installed Keychain2Go but it just synced right away to "somewhere". I guess it's their servers. So I am concerned about that as I don't know this company.
So is Keychain2Go the only solution to sync Keychains now? I cannot find any other solution.
