Can someone explain to me why my Jar files wont work? When I double click them nothing at all happens the icon just gets big and goes away. I know there is a way to execute the Jar file using terminal but I don't understand that either since I don't know how to use terminal. Is there something that I have to download/install to get the double clicking to work? If not how do I execute through terminal?

My macbook pro is slow on start up. Today I had to shut the computer down using the power button two times in a row. On the third time, the computer executed the start up correctly. What could be the cause of this?

All I do is to add/remove columns on a spreadsheet using Excel 2011 and I see beach balls every time. I'm using Ultimate 13" Air and only running iCal and Excel concurrently. Activity monitor shows excel using 0.2% of CPU. This puzzles me alot.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen downloading avi files quicktime is selected and although there is video there is no audio. I've downloaded every version of VLC but the computer doesn't seem to recognise it - even when hitting on the vlc cone icon the top menu bar doesn't alter i.e go from finder to VLC. I've never had a problem with vlc before however my mac recently crashed and am currently operating out of the root system administrator so don't know if I'm missing some plug in that I might have had before.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have MacBook Pro with Lion 10.7.3. My .mov files from several years ago will not open and will not play using Quicktime or any other player. They worked 1 year ago, but just tried them today and they all say "The movie could not be opened. This file is not a movie file." I have not touched them for a year so they haven't changed.

I will be getting my first Mac tomorrow - a Mac Pro. I have about 750 gb of data I need to transferr from my PC to the new Mac.
I have used MRoogle to search MacRumors and also have searched the apple forums but I must be using the wrong search terms.
I will not have a network to hook both computers up to so network sharing will not work.
I have purchased two new 2 tb external HD to use as off site backups for my new Mac.
DO I need to format one of them for NTFS and put the data on it and then hook it up to the Mac and drag and drop or can I leave the harddrive in MFS format and still use it to move files to from the MAc? I just do not know how to do this?

My screen capture isn't working. If I press Shift+Control+Command+3, then I hear the usual "picture taking" sound, but no file ever appears.
Quick Look has stopped working for MP4 file types. If I rename to M4V, Quick Look shows previews and thumbnails in finder. I have run:
$ qlmanange -d 1 -t test.mp4Â
It reports:Content type UTI: public.mpeg-4. Generator used: None. If I tell it to use -c public.movie, it does show the preview. What do I need to do to get my Quick Look working again?

So recently my apple remote stopped working. It is sending a signal cause I checked with a digital camera to see the light working. I do not have the "Disable IR Receiver" checked in the Security prefs. I do have the newest software of EyeTV as well as an Elgato EyeTV 250, however that never caused an issue in the past, nor do I think it is the cause of the current problem. Also my remote is not paired to a specific computer. Does anyone know the sich? OR Where are the Apple Remote config files / any Apple Remote files located so I can replace them with my friend's files on her iMac.

I am trying to clear out some old files so that I can have room on my start up disk. My Disk is full and it is making it hard for me to open more then one file. View 7 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with my external hard drive. I was using it the other day working with some of the files on it and it shut down my computer a couple times. The second time it did this, after the computer shut down, I would turn it on and then it would go right back off until I removed the hard drive and turned it on and it was fine. Now my computer won't recognize the hard drive at all when i plug it in. The light on the hard drive will come on but it will not show up on my computer.
The hard drive is a WD 1TB Passport and it still works fine with every other computer I plug it into, PCs and macs both.I have a late 2008 13" Aluminum Macbook
I have a pdf file, I want to copy certain pages from to a new file and rename the pages afterwards.
This is the awkward behavier, preview.app gives me, trying to do so:
It does not let me create a new pdf out of the program (command + N or file/new file) - why?
Instead, I have to drag one of the pages I want on the desktop, to create a new pdf file there.
Once I created a new pdf and dragged the wanted pages into my new file, I cannot rename the pages, which have now meaningless names including "(dragged)" in the middle. I have found no logical way, to rename these pages - why?
Do not ever plan, to save time in just selecting more than one page, to drag and copy over to your new pdf - you will end up with an alias in your sidebar of the new pdf file, which of no reason making sense to me is undeletable - which means - start over again!
Opening bank data files, while logged into the bank or brokerage sites, by clicking on the PDF or file name icon, is supposed to open in PDF format but instead opens only a single page in Quicktime. This also happened several years ago in Leopard and required the removal of Quicktimeplugin.plugin. I have tried doing that in Lion with no success.

Do I need to reinstall each individual program/application? Will a reinstall of Mavericks work?

I am trying to copy large .vob files from my video camera. My camera uses mini dvds. occasionally the movie file will fail to copy perperly because the data is damaged. Is there an application i can download that will fix the files so i can have a copy to edit in my movie software?
View 1 Replies View RelatedA couple of months ago, I was sent some WMV files that I need to watch. I installed Flip4mac and the files would play sound but no video. I have since upgraded to snow leopard and now it won't even play the sound. It shows me a status bar telling me that it is processing the file and then I get an error message telling me "additional software may be required to play this file" Anyone know how can I get these files to work?
I noticed that finder is not displaying all files when I look at folders with lots of files in "icon view" mode but they do show up in "list view" Same thing happened with the computer at work. I'm using OS X Leopard on both.

View 19 Replies View RelatedSo, I have all of my imovie projects backed up on my external harddrive, as well as the imovie program. I accidentally deleted all of the imovie projects and events from the imovie application on my laptop. When I try to re-import the imovie files into imovie, it doesn't recognize the files. I have tried to convert them with iSkySoft Video Converter. That converter program does not recognize the files either. I also tried burning the files onto a disc and then pulling them off the disc with the Handbrake program. This doesn't work either. I also tried importing the files into iMovie HD, which I have on my desktop, but to no avail. Are these files alll useless now? I'm at my wits end because I have spent literally months compiling footage for a documentary.

I had been using iLife '09 off a copy that my mother got with with her 2009 polycarbonate macbook. After the crash I upgraded to 10.6 and attempted to install iLife '09 again. It told me thus: 'Alert: this software cannot be installed on this computer'. And that's it. I can't access any of my pictures in iPhoto or upload any(3 wedding albums :3), and I can't access any of my old Garage Band files, simply because they were created on '09 and since the reboot I'm stuck with '08. Major bummer. Bottom Line: is there any way to get iLife '09 on my computer without wasting $100 just to access files?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an ibook G4. I use Microsoft Messenger for Mac (version 7.0.1) all the time, and it usually works fine. But for some reason when I use a particular wireless router (Qwest Actiontec) it doesn't work. My web browsers, and other messenger systems (yahoo, aim, ect.) work just fine. I also have a PC which uses the same wireless router, and MSN works on that. When I connect to the neighbor's wireless network (or any other network) with my ibook, Messenger works just fine.
Anyone know of anything I can do to fix this problem? The Actiontech router is my main internet connection, so not having Messenger working with it is a major inconvenience, since other connections are not always available.
