Applications :: Handbrake Requires Non Existent 64bit VLC?
Apr 22, 2010I've got Handbrake 64-bit. It tells me it needs VLC 64-bit and even gives me a link to download it. There doesn't appear that 64-bit VLC exists.

I burnt a DVD this morning - two actually as the first copy had a 'verification' error. When I was finished, I dragged the burn folder (folder icon with the radioactive symbol on it) from the desktop to the trash. Later in the day, I emptied the trash.Same as I do about once a week. Despite emptying the trash and restarting the computer, the folder still shows up in the list of places in the left column of an open finder window.
The folder is not on my desktop and is not in my trash, just in the list of places. When I try to click on the folder in the list, I get a message "The Volume for ..... cannot be found". In the past, dragging the folder from the desktop to the trash, emptying the trash and then restarting has always removed it from the list of places (and I believe similarly when I have software updates via .dmg files). So the questions are: (1) how do I get rid of it now and (2) what could have caused it to happen.
I downloaded a program and soon decided not to have it on my Macbook Pro (Mid 2009) anymore. After I had delted all the files I did a Finder search just to make sure there were no more files associated with the program. I found one file that has no image to it, but it has the name of the program. I can not move or drag the file, or delete it keyboard shortcuts or by right clicking it, it is also NOT locked. I can "Get Info" but there isn't anything there, it has no location and takes up Zero KB. I know this isn't such a big deal considering it basically doesn't exist, but it annoys me to know that it is there somewhere because it turns up when I search for it. Is there any way to get rid of this? I have tried restarting finder, I have tried restarting computer, I have tried turning the computer off and turning it back on, repairing disk permissions. I don't know what to do! I am running Mac OS X 10.7.3 on a Mid 2009 Macbook Pro, (2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8GB memory.

My MBA has started giving an error that it cannot find a bluetooth keyboard everytime it boots up. The keyboard and trackpad on the MBA are not working at all now. I have never added a bluetooth keyboard and don't have one. I am now unable to login and change any settings or disable bluetooth.
I am not sure what changed for this to start happening. Is there any way to disable bluetooth with hardwre buttons?

When signing in to macbook, which is network connected, tries to connect to a non-existent NAS server (used to exist but replaced). Gives message that 'NAS server cannot be found', usually at least twice. Message(s) can be canceled without a problem. Then when opening Chrome, same message appears again. System is obviously retaining this old location somewhere within a setting, but do not know how or what to look for.

I just re-installed SL and while perusing the adblock for Safari site, I found that adblock just works in 32-bit mode.

Anyways, if I decide to take the plunge and get windows 7, it will be for the express purpose of running within vmware. I have zero interest in running it in bootcamp (I use fedora and boot into that) so basically which version of win7 would provide the best performance. The 32bit or 64bit flavor
I'm dissapointed with the current Handbrake 0.9.2 version as it is about 3 times slower to encode at the same settings I used in 0.8.5b1. I was googling around for the download link, but all of them either point to the current 0.9.2 or give the 404 error.Foolish me to delete 0.8.5b1 dmg from my HD after I got 0.9.2...Or if somebody has the 0.8.5b1 version could he sent it to me? The reason is because I want to see if handbrake puts any sort of load on the GPU at all. I can't do this because for some reason iStat Pro and Temperature Monitor cannot see the GPU temp nor GPU Fan Speed on the new MacPro's.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Snow Leopard. It works faster than before and it gave me 8GB of space back. But, after looking through Applications in system profiler, I found out iTunes is not 64-bit unlike Safari and other native applications that have been re-written to 64-bit. I remember Apple said iTunes is also re-written. I must download a new version or it's included in an update (I'm waiting the 10.6.2 update to download at the moment)?

I'm hoping someone here might have encountered this issue before and have some kind of a workaround or solution...I've attempted to rip Rocky Balboa (a DVD I own) using Handbrake. It detects all of the titles (for some reason there are 99!) and automatically selects the right one, which shows as 1 hour 42 minutes. Also, all the chapters are selected (1 through 28) However, when I try to rip it, the resulting file is only about 3 minutes long - it's just the very beginning
View 15 Replies View RelatedI'm using handbrake to rip my dvd library.
Quicktime preset.
It's been working fine, have no complaints.
However, recently I've been attempting to burn a dvd with some of the moviesthat I ripped using handbrake. This is where the problems began.
I tried burning a few episodes of a TV series to a DVD using iDvd program... it said that the dvd only had space for 3 300mb episodes. Somehow the project info window said that those three episodes where somewhere in the window of 4gb. And when I did try to burn the dvd, the encoding process took quite literally an eon. Solutions? Why is it that the iDvd program makes the files so huge? Why does the encoding take so long? I don't need anything fancy, I'm simply trying to get my .mp4 library into a form watchable from a dvd player.
I also had a similar problem with itunes, trying to import the movies to watch on my ipod video. It transferred into itunes just fine, but when I tried to load it onto the ipod, it said that it wasn't the right format. It then began to encode the movie, and I let it run all night, to come out the next morning and find it only 25% completed. Anyone know of a way to get large (2gb max) .mp4 files onto an ipod easily?
DVD files and save them right onto my Mac?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhile using Handbrake on a friend's Early 2009 MBP (version 0.9.4), and setting the frame rate to NTSC (29.97 fps), with a good amount of video filters on, the transcode was only coming in at around 8 fps.
This also happens on my quad-core windows PC, though it comes in now at around 21 fps (w/ all the same settings).
Is there a way to have handbrake encode at a certain framerate, but then take longer in order to do so, instead of the norm, where it just encodes and the frame rate's lower?
What kind of fps should I expect for video conversion on a 2010 macbook pro with an i7. I'm converting a 640x480 res video at 70% constant quality to .mp4 and I'm getting around 50-55 fps. Is that alright?

View 5 Replies View RelatedCan someone please help me figure out why it is that iTunes is now requiring that I enter my iTunes password seemingly every day for any new purchases I make, even though I've checked the checkbox to "remember password". I can't be sure but this behavior either started happening when I upgraded to Snow Leopard, or when I upgraded iTunes to version 9. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a wedding dvd (about 3 hours long) which i'd like to share with the family on my Apple TV/Mac (don't have a dvd player) etc... results in a file which cannot be played.
I've ripped using the Regular and also AppleTV presets. Both generate a m4v file (about 10gb file)... but it just won't play in OS X... doesn't work with Preview, iTunes, Quicktime, VLC.. nada...
Searching the forums, I found a post which suggested renaming the m4v to mp4, but this didn't have any effect either.
Is the filesize too big? The icon of the generated file says "MPEG4 M4V, OPEN WITH ITUNES".
At first I thought the file was corrupt, but I have ripped it a few times now, all with the same outcome.
I recently downloaded some tv shows from the internet. I converted one show (21 minutes) to watch later on my iphone. I first used the convert option on roxio toast and this procedure took almost 2 hours. Then out of curiosity i did the same thing on handbrake. Handbrake only took 15 minutes. Also the quality from the handbrake app looks a whole lot better. So i guess my question is why is handbrake so much better with a free app?

Every time I try to rip something, I get either the same or lower video quality, yet the size is consistently higher. 30 minute tv shows ( approximately 21 minutes without commercials) are usually 175-185mb 1 hour tv shows (approximately 43 minutes without commericials) are usually 350mb any way to replicate this with Handbrake? Or do I need another ripping solution
